  1. My vet just told me to use olive oil every so often. I use a little dropper to put a few drops in their ears. They have to be scruffed because if not half of it ends up on me!
  2. This is type of posts that realy piss me off. Next you'l be telling us their brother and sister too Didnt you think about this when you put two opposite sex ferrets in the same enclosure
  3. By rescue do you mean their from a ferret rescue? If so, their policies are usually that you take them back if circumstances change.
  4. all mine have been castrated, doesnt affect their ability either.
  5. If they are living together and you dont want them to bring any jills out of season then you they will need castration. Castration is removal of their nuts, which means they dont have the urge to have a go at each other or any jills. If you want them to bring jills out of season then you need to have them vasectomised. Mine have been castrated at about the 9 month mark when they've fully matured. Some vets will castrate if their nuts aint there, some vets wont. Sometimes when put under anesthetic the body relax's and the nuts appear lol.
  6. I was watching this thread too, and yet again the animal didnt seek vetinary treatment early enough. It should of been at the emergency vets as soon as he saw serious signs of illness like this, ferrets go down hill very fast and they are very good at hiding illness's. The animal should of seen the vet to be treated or to end its suffering streight away. If money is the problem I suggest putting some aside every week untill it builds up before you get any other ferrets in case of an emergency like this. As in this case the animal always ends up suffering. Rant over, lesson hopefull
  7. thats great that it, love to see ferrets with loads of room to run about & play.
  8. Great news, hope the other one is ok and you get him back soon.
  9. Well done for taking her in mate, im sure she will come up good and thank you by bolting loads of bunnies lol.
  10. Sounds to me like theyve put notcies through the door asking for improvments? They shouldnt of taken them as they dont have rights to do that, you sure your girlfriend didnt sign them over? But to be fair, my ferrets have dry food in their cage 24/7 and water & they are cleaned out daily.
  11. Great to see people gettin em from rescues & its good to see rescues rehoming to working homes too
  12. In my opinion I think the ferret would of suffered. I think its just another case of oh its only a ferret. If your best working dog was ill you would take it streight to the vets. Maybe its a hard lesson learnt, that when you see signs of illness, best to be safe than sorry than letting an animal suffer two days. Maybe next time you will spend less time writing it up on here and use your brain. If your poorly you go to the doctors, animals dont have that choice.
  13. if you're that concerned to post on here then isnt that telling you something. Not having ago but the ferret should of been at the emergency vets, they go down hill VERY quick.
  14. Im not sure, I know its ok to feed em cat milk as its low in lactose. Or the cartons of lactofree milk
  15. You can stil get tone but its abit pricey. Mine also like the malte paste from pets@home in a tube
  16. Thats something I was shocked at ferret-land I have to say. You call yourself a rescue but you breed (isnt that defeating the object). You also seem to be handing out ferrets willy nilly, none of them are neutered (most peoples opinions of a good rescue is that they neuter every single one they rehome). You are also selling cages WITH ferrets to any Tom, Dick & Harry it seems!
  17. Great positive attitude in finding the owners, especially as a rescue Ive known ferrets turn up weeks on end, been handed into vets and ferret rescues and been reunited. One of mine was chipped, and its ok if it lands with someone who might check it for a chip but unfortunatly mine cant of done .
  18. Yeah mine love occasional treat of cat milk, you can add an egg if ya want too. Mine love it and in this weather I add abit of hot water for em so its luke warm.
  19. ordered some last week, as I normally mix a few brands together. It came quick and had a good date onnit aswell.
  20. Mine have dry in their all the time. At this time of year their obviously gonna eat more to gain more weight ready for the winter. None of my ferrets are overweight. If I restricted their food they would probably eat more in the long run because they would know their not going to get fed untill next feed time. They also have meat on a night.
  21. If your getting ferrets, I would defo get 2. They do better in pairs, its great to watch them play and race about lol. For housing, get something as big as the space you've got, with a run aswell Feeding, large bottles are best, and big ceramic dog dish's are best for food cos they cant tip em.
  22. dont look overweight to me, just look like their preparing for the winter with abit of winter fat.
  23. ring hull ferret rescue if your that way on, thats where rspca will take em. Contact vets, put up some posters, leave ferreting box out with bedding in. Try sqeeking a dog toy, mine go mad when I do that. Good luck.
  24. I'd never use straw, seen what damage it can do when it gets 'places' in both male and female ferrets, I just use old jumpers and cheap blankets, wash em when they get grubby lasts agess, dont cost owt and no problems if you keep their nails short.
