  1. Theres been quite a few ferrets stolen on another forum I go on too. I have wireless burglar alarm on our shed aswell as padlocks, also set up some cctv.
  2. Mine have bowl of a mixture of dry ferret food 24/7 and meat at night. Ferrets have short digestive system so they eat 3/4 times a day Once they realise they have food you will find they wont be so greedy.
  3. Great work mate , looks ace. Just make sure you leave door open if its ever warm lol cos sheds get red hot inside
  4. catflap http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f233/llz...ll/DSC00433.jpg The sheds painted inside cos its rate old and dark lol so i needed to lighten it up inside. aha. Before the court, 4x4 run attached. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f233/llz...ll/DSC01172.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f233/llz...ll/DSC01174.jpg It doesnt look so tidy now
  5. you might want to lay some lino down in the shed too so if the ferrets pee in the corners it doesnt rott the wood. Ive got some pics of inside my shed if you want me to put em on.
  6. Yes they get into the court through a catflap.. The sheds where they sleep, eat, they also have a cage in their that they are shut in at night and the shed door locked.
  7. buy two of the same littertrays, screw one down and slot other one inside it
  8. If its just got mesh on front, stick some netting curtains over top of mesh with some drawing pins
  9. Taking a ferrets scent glands out (that cannot be done in uk) does not cut down on the smell, they only use theese to skunk when they are frightened but some ferrets do it occasionally lol. Nuetering does cut down the smell, by neutering it stops the ferrets hormones which make the coat oily, and hobs coats yellow/orangy colour. An entire hob as much more of a musky smellt than a castrateded one. I dont keep mine inside but I know a few peeps that keep em inside, their ferrets are littertrained etc,you have got to keep on top of the cleaning though to keep smell to a minimum.. Theese people
  10. If they wont spend the money on the ferrets, whats gonna happen if the ferrets need vet treatment, I wouldnt of rehomed my ferrets to someone like that.
  11. isnt there anything on the floor to absorb pee? Get some propper bolts for them doors too, as the catch's you have on now can drop down if the ferrets climb up the mesh too much.
  12. ide put some perspex up the rest of the fence so when they climb the mesh they cant grip onto anything.
  13. well, can see you hav'ent I personally dont think they smell any worse than cat/dog. Wet dog smells worst than ferrets IMO. Especially when ferrets have been neutered, my ferrets trays are emptied a couple of times a day and they do have a slight smell like any animal does.
  14. When the majority of ferrets bite, there is normally a reason behind the biting just like dogs. Iv only been bit twice and it was my own fault and i waited til the ferret let go.
  15. Do lots of research, ferrets dont smell if they are neutered/cleaned out regular, every animal as its own smell and i dont think its any worse than cat/dog smell. If a ferret bites, majority of the time is a reason behind why its biting, handle them regular and interact with em and they make fantastic companions. But you need alot of time, you need to get the biggest hutch you can afford or have space for, the bigger the better for the ferrets. They cannot be stuck in a cage all the time, your parents would have to let it out to give it exercise for a couple of hours a day would they do
  16. this is the paste you can get from pets at home http://www.petsathome.com/find/keyword-is-...roduct-is-17695
  17. Yeah some hobs during the mating season will fight. You can get them castrated so they can live together all year, although when they come out of season in the winter they will live together happily. So I would seperate them til winter.
  18. Ive got a chair in the shed and sit in there with mine daily and interact wi em, I could sit in there for hours.
  19. Sounds like its only had a certain amount of feedings per day so its trying to eat all it can cos it thinks its getting no more. Fill up a bowl of dry ferret biscuits and leave them in all the time this way it will know food is always available and wont get greedy also give raw meat aswell to pog it up. Get some ferretone or some malte paste from pets at home, ferrets love theese and you can sit down whilst it licks the tube. Then clench ya fist and put some on your knuckle so that way if it wonts to bite it cant get grip, when it bites take it your hand away and say NO and re offer again
  20. Cheap cat and dog food can cause bladder stones because they can not digest the vegetable protein. Theese stones were found in a poor ferrets bladder on another forum, which was fed on cat/dog food.. Would you like them in you, must of been painful to pee. Lighter there for size comparison.
  21. heat stroke? if the ferrets couldnt cool down in any way or the shed not in a shaded spot.
  22. Its not uncommon for ferrets to be stolen, quite sad realy.. We have alarm and locks on the shed along with cctv.
  23. Ferrets need meat protein, alot of cheap cat food contains vegetable protein and ferrets struggle to digest alot of this, it could result in the ferrets getting bladder stones. Mine have James welbeloved, alpha, vitalin and whatever other brands they have available. If you mean they look extremley well by their coat, it might be because they were neutered, their coats look much healthier if thyeve been done.
