  1. Out again this morning we had well over 100 mackerel, we were throwing them back. A couple nice bass and a small pollack. Here's my mate with one around 4.5 pound.
  2. Do you have his contact details please?
  3. Hi lads does anyone know of anyone in the UK that repairs GPS collars etc? Thanks
  4. No problem I understand mate family commitments etc. Was just doing my good deed for the year offering thl member a spin out with local knowledge. Good luck on the bass ?
  5. You should have come with me ,I did offer. Just had around 40 mackerel and a couple bass Just over 2 lb. First light the water was boiling with fish.
  6. Yeah my mate has a boat in Brixham he said its been dire around Berry Head and Hopes Nose this year so far. Like you say fresh Mackerel takes some beating!
  7. Yeah the last couple of years the Polish have been hauling in good numbers on Mountbatten pier on Christmas Eve lol.
  8. Yeah that's it mate but since I can remember we always used to go around June and it was not unusual to catch mackerel every cast off the shore, once they were in. I can remember catching over hundred on many occasions, used to take what we wanted for the pot and put the rest back. Great sport on light tackle. It's definitely changed now, they are turning up in Autumn/Winter in numbers whereas they used to disappear at that time of year. We had a bag of decent sized ones last week, great sport, but not in in any quantity yet.
  9. The mackerel always used to be in in quantity in the Summer but definitely not the case now seem to be in now Autumn/Winter
  10. The Mackerel have been very thin in the Summer months for the last few years. They seem to appear in higher numbers now in the Winter, all a part of climate change I suppose. Also there's a lot of Dolphin and Tuna in our waters now which must have a dramatic effect on them too. I had a few nice big Mackerel last week and saw a big Tuna jumping out of the water all an the southern Cornish coast.
  11. It's all mine as far as the eye can see, lol. Thats what me and your old man used to say, back in the day!
  12. Look across from the little pier by the main beach at Looe, so other side of the river, rock mark easy access. Fish early morning/later evening good bass mark. There was plenty bait fish about there yesterday. As metal lures go you won't go wrong with a wedge, and most of the soft plastics are good these days for pollack, bass and wrasse. I can give you a good spinning mark near Rame head if your down next week I may be able to meet you and take you there.
  13. Barrie I just wrote you a message and it said that you couldn't receive messages. Is there any way that I can contact you privately please? Thank you!
  14. I'm afraid their website isn't upto much, they have a fb page but I'm not on fb. I can pm you Xaviers phone number then you can whats app him any questions etc, he's very responsive.
  15. Personally I wouldn't use anything other than Microsensory GPS now. They have solar panels built into the transmitters which keep the battery topped up. Also its three systems in one. You have the real time GPS, the app on your phone which works with google maps and you also have the radio telemetry as a back up all built into one small unit. Plus an excellent after sales service on your phone through whats app.
  16. Ian as you have never trained a GWP how can you begin to understand their versatility and mindset, let alone their capabilities of mastering different skills. It's quite normal these days for everyone to think that their chosen breeds excels above all others. The Gwp is bred to be a multi task animal and as I understand it the Lab is originally a retriever. They are an easily trained breed that can be put to good use outside the hunting field, hearing dogs for the deaf, guide dogs for the blind even selling toilet rolls lol, the last comment was meant as a joke by the way. Each to their own bu
  17. Well actually as this is a hunting forum I am just talking about the work that they are bred for i.e a Labrador is I think bred for retrieving. I was talking about versatility in the respect of the purposes that they are bred to do. You probably could get a lab to point as I could probably get a lurcher to herd sheep, but why bother when there are dogs that are bred for the purpose. I know wildfowlers that use GWP's, and they do the job very well. Honestly I'm not disrespecting the Labrador I know of some very good ones but most won't do all the tasks to the same degree as a good GWP, they hav
  18. Your right there Terry they can be difficult as they are head strong but at the same time sensitive!
  19. We are talking gun work/hunting etc, the GWP is the most versatile HPR breed out there. What does a lab do ? retrieve,. Well I know people that use GWP's for falconry, hunting pointing and retrieving, find game. Also wild fowling, working as vermin locating dogs marking foxes. Retrieving shot game ,deer stalking, wild boar hunting, lamping, ferreting etc etc. The list is endless. Labs are versatile but they can't point.
  20. 14 weeks old took him out on his own. Stiff breeze in our faces slammed into a nice solid point, looked over the brow two fallow feeding. Nice to see the pup has some instinct in him.
  21. There is a lot of poorly made crap around. Better off sticking to some time served suppliers, especially when it could cost you your bird. Always a good idea to visit one of the falconry fairs to compare quality! Ben long: General gear Hooded Talons: Braided gear and hoods Ashley Clarke: Gloves Microsensory: Telemetry/GPS
