  1. Unfortunately one of those days. He nailed a squirrel at the top of the tree in the ivy. Dropped to a lower bough, then decided to take his fill. So with tag put to sleep for 19 hours, it's an early start in the morning, lol. #10
  2. A quick look out today and a brace of nutrunners in the bag!
  3. Yes he's a good dog, a bit full on but unbelievable drive. He needs to steady up on the pointing but on the whole pleased with him!
  4. Yes it was a good day! I like hunting a bit of everything with him. However I do enjoy the team work of dog, ferret, man and hawk.
  5. Finally got on some decent rabbit ground, had to travel but worth it. Some cracking flights and three in the bag!
  6. One of those days where nothing seems to go right. But bagged one in the end after a good flight. #4
  7. Not many rabbits around here. First one of the season #3
  8. A late start to the season. First two kills today a brace of nutrunners in the bag!
  9. It's always good to get the youngsters involved after all they are the next generation of austringers to keep the sport going.
  10. No problen Steph. If you get stuck anytime let me know I can put you in touch with a few austringers in Scotland that may give your son a day or two out.
  11. The Harris hawk revolution is a very good book. If Harris hawks is your choice any of the books by Martin Hollinshead would be impossible to beat for a UK based austringer. Although at six I'd say he has a long way to go until he's responsible enough to take charge of a hawk of his own. Living in Sterling you are very close to a good hawk breeder who may be able to put him in touch with local austringers. That would allow him to gain hands on experience as he develops.

  13. I know exactly where your coming from. It was probably 25 years ago that I had mine and I still get that strange feeling when I see a pair now, lol.
  14. I just don't like them anymore lol. Especially when there are other boots around that are waterproof too. I have Diotto's 2 pairs that are excellent I had a pair of Dedittos for six years they have now gone. I have Lowas that are excellent also the old Altberg gamekeeper extremes which they no longer make. Also just got a pair of Hillmans which are literally like slippers. All these boots are comfortable, waterproof and durable. I'll stick to these and leave the Lundhags to you, lol. ATB
  15. I winced when I saw you had Lundhags on....I had a pair years ago walked out onto the moor. I literally crawled back, blisters the size of footballs. I was close to tears, they stayed in the shed for many years then went in the bin. I still feel sick every time that I see a pair, good luck!

    Aggression

Never feed her in there. Sometimes they become mews aggressive as they become mature it's her territory. It's difficult but try to only feed her when out, if you can't fly for a day remove her from her mews and feed somewhere away from her pen.
  17. Hi Lewis the more that you can fly them the better they will be. If only flown at weekends they can be disappointing as they will give up quicker because of lack of fitness. Ways around it are you could maybe lamp the bird a few times a week and or do some jump ups for fitness. I used to do restrained pursuits with my goshawk on days I couldn't fly for her daily rations, this helped a great deal with fitness.
  18. Another stint this morning also had a few mackerel!
  19. A good session on the lures this morning. Also had a few mackerel!
