  3. i tell you moll we spent nearly all day pissing ourselves ... but then thats what the day was all about .. it wasnt a numbers game it was a day out in good company watching the dogs and ferrets work well in harsh conditions ... mind you i spent most of the day laughing at TBF shaking like a little girl ......................
  4. she is a first cross collie grey mate ...........
  5. i had nothing planned for this weekend as i had been away for 3 weeks and was just going to get the dogs out for a quiet mooch .... then my hunting partner chicky rung and said he had a nice new hob for us to try out and he had a nightmare week in work and could do with a walk out ... an hour later CHALKWARREN rung and said he and THE BIG FISH were planning in calling in at some stage over the weekend to sort out some business ... so all that combined with tegan really needing a good run out to blow the cobwebs out of her we decided to have a nice leisurely day out just bolting a few for the d

  7. i wish i had a decent camare mate as that last pic does her no justice at all ............
  8. i always start mine at around 10 to 12 weeks mate nice and steady just an hour at a time first then back in the truck for a kip ... as they get older they get longer go back in the truck for a break and then come out again to do a bit more ... when you see them getting bored instead of trying to push them to keep going put them back in the car to stop them getting fed up ... keeping them keen is the key and pushing them to hard as youngsters ............ TEGAN AT 12 WEEKS OUT FERRETING ................. 5 MONTHS LEARNING TO FOLLOW THE FERRETS AND THE ART OF LONGNETTING ........

    YOUR OTHER HALF

my missus is a vegetarian has been since she was 14 doesnt like dogs as a rule and doesnt like hunting .... HOWEVER she will cook me any meat i want brings on the pups basic training and looks after the dogs when i am away and is chief nurse when one is injured and now realises that hunting is not cruel and as long as animals are humanely and quickly killed she is ok with it ...........

  16. ALL bones only splinter when they have been BAKED IN AN OVEN raw or boiled bones are absolutely fine .............. 7 WEEKS OLD AND ENJOYING HERSELF .............
  17. 5/8 ... 3/8 is a nice type i had one myself a few years ago (some of you may remember ) BUT the dog didnt like me and i didnt like the dog ... the dog never wanted to do anything for me and in return i never really put my heart into training the dog .... shame really as she caould have been a handy dog ... HOWEVER the fecking dog was like s h i t of a shovel ... if i owned her now taht i live where i do i would have an overflowing freezer ...........
  18. juckler there is no scientific or common sense reason why a larger dog of exactly the same breeding as a smaller version would have less stamina ... i have wittnessed plenty of 3/4 breds run and they have had plenty of wind .... i have a first cross bitch here that will run all night and all day .... if i bred her to a coursing greyhound then it matters not what size the pups made fact is they will have plenty of stamina ............
  19. so are you saying that the smaller type 3/4 collie greys had stamina ??? or are you saying that smaller type crosses like 1/4 beddy 3/4 grey have more stamina ??? ............
  20. for the love of god this is the simplest form of animal husbandry .... removing ticks curing fleas and worms should be second nature to anybody with working animals ..... right hold the ferret by the scruff with your thumb and forefinger this will render the ferret imobile .... then use a tick hook and remove the thing .... if you cant get one then using the thumb and forefinger of the other other hand grip the tick as close to the ferrets skin as possible and twist anticlockwise and pull the same time ... hey presto tick and legs all out ... once removed crush the parisite untill it pops to m
  21. strangely enough i have got a little experience in the collie based blood lined dogs ... and your statements are utter nonsence .... yes bitches are generealy smaller in MOST breeds of dogs but that doesnt mean that they are leaner ... you can have dogs just as lean as bitches just slightly higher in the leg ... as for saying taht most 3/4 bred dogs are to heavy and large to catch rabbits what a crock of s h i t a regular sized track greyhounds will catch rabbits with ease so how in the hell by having a 1/4 collie in them will taht sudenly make them heavily built and to large to be proficien
  22. FIRST CROSS COLLIE GREY .... DOESNT LOOK VERY HEAVY TO ME ................. and for the record will run ANYTHING no matter how far away ...........
  23. a dog that is fit has the ability to recover very quickly from a hard run and has its tongue in quickly and is ready to go again .... for example a dog that is fit should easily be able to run 20 rabbits on the beam one after another and not be taxed .... stamina is the ability to run at speed for a prolonged time and distance with no respite as a dog on a good winter hare is required to do (pre ban of course) but to be a succsesfull dog in the field you need to have both in equal measures otherwise your dog with exceptional stamina will catch the said hare but will be no good for the rest of
  24. giro that is absolutely correct .... how can you tell by looking at a picture if a dog is fit or not ... you couldnt tell if a a dog was fit or not if you handeled it and checked it over for an hour .... what you could tell is that the dog was muscled and proportioned and taht the muscle mass firm and well balanced on the dog .... the only way you can tell a dogs fitness is by watching it run game after game and gauging his stamina and recovery time after each run depending on its duration and ground covered ...............
