  1. :D Boy, does that sound so Yankee , taking down?, rabbits? "Look out bo, dey gonna getchya". Anyone got a machine g...... ok I found 1 The .22 rimfire is the best tool in the box in the UK, the .17hmr is great fun, you go figure. Perspective .the .22 rimfire will kill a man every time at 440yrds if hit in a vital area.
  2. Well, took it in this morning, tried 3 other mags and a 25 round banana clip, all sloppy as hell. Gun issue not magazine. Picked up a Ruger .22 magnum and the mag is a much better fit and importantly the spring tension on the mag release catch is much stronger. Needs to strip this out and try to extend the centre pin and up the spring pressure
  3. Maybe he doesn't look so much like a serial killer,
  4. It wasn't even fibre glass, it didn't have the glass fibres in it and it was little better than body filler, but agreed, the newer purpose supplied stuff is much better. I did a 223 a few months back, 1st 1 I'd felt the need to do. The videos are good but I can't over emphasise the need to absolutely ensure every thing you don't want gooooed up is fully coated with release agent or similar, especially blued actions. I used a thick silicone oil that I have for other purposes. You didn't ask if it works or is worth doing or not? Others will be better fixed than me to elaborate,
  5. No, as said earlier I don't have another mag. I an going back to the gunny shop as I need to try a different ammo for an accuracy check anyway, what I was getting at 100yds is far worse than I expected. Gun is about 5 years old but hasn't fired more than 350 rounds (don't ask), and nothing has been screwed around with, the damage occurs against the very edge of the chamber, almost as if it is too sharp a radius. I'll let him take a look at it anyway, he may have a mag in stock to compare with, bloody annoying to have to keep the left hand clamped around the mag when chambering a slug.
  6. Went from bruno to ruger, wouldnt go back so no thanks on that 1, as said the previous 77/22 I had for 15 years never faulted on the same mag. I need to try a different mag, I know I am well familiar with stripping the mag, they need doing once a year or so as they do tend to collect crap, but thanks anyway Seeker, the very 1st thing I did was to wind up the spring to ensure the shell was absolutely pressed to the upper edge of the mag. Even went a little further to the extent that it was fully wound at 8 shots not 10, no improvement. I also filed down a very small brass washer and put it
  7. Ruger 77/22 but the 10/22 is very similar. Was at Calton Range the other day, (money well spent). The 77/22 started giving problems, not loading correctly from the magazine. The ammo was baulking against the chamber as it was offered up too low. It was damaging the lead if it loaded. Realised that if I held the mag up as fare as possible it was fine, there's slight movement and the weight of the mag allows it to drop slightly out of position. Only did it with win subs, eley was fine. Now, my last 77/22 must have had 10,000 rounds through the same mag without issue, this 1 has only
  8. I got 2 things to say on this whole topic, 1, To the guys that think a man with a .22 is going to wipe out entire rabbit populations, think again. It doesn't happen that way. Yes he will get a few, probably a lot, but then they get gun shy even from a near silent .22,. I've been on farms where there has been a big rabbit problem, no way could I shoot the buggers off and this was inspite of it also being bothered by several groups of dogmen operating without permission. Only ferreting cleared them out. And secondly and this was what I actually wanted to say; Forget about Ni
  9. I';d like to take this further chaps if you all don't mind?? So, how to make a gun room? Details please re side and back/floor/top access and the nessessary door detail
  10. Yes of course bird shot just rattles down if shot up at an angle, and it comes down like rain, no problem unless the person it falls on complains. But I've been in a situation when another shooter let cotter at a pigeon that was directly in line with me but about 100 yards away, it doesn't fall like rain when aimed towards you and passes with a whooosh. Now put triple AAA in there, and I'm guessing those that are sceptical haven't even seen one, because if they had they wouldn't want to be on the sharp end even at 300 yards, the stuff is like buckshot, has energy but not direction way
  11. You guys are missing the point. A single AAA shot is about the size (not weight) of a .22 lead. Figure a dozen or more of those leaving the 12g gun at 1400 fps, thats 400fps quicker than a subsonic .22, or 3 x quicker than a .22 air rifle, and I think you may start to understand. If you don't get that you need to put your gun down and go figure, because you aren't safe to be around. Hit someone at that range and your shooting privaleges are gone, full stop.
  12. All I've ever done to any of mine is to rub oil into them, and I'm nut too fussy what type, bisley "gun oil", if I've just cleaned the gun, even down to castrol GTX, never had any water issues. I think all the shotguns I've had have had an oil finish of some description as even after steaming dinks out of the stock with a pressure steamer, a rub down and re oil and there's no marking left. Laquer coated guns on the other hand, (my 3 rifles are like this), are like eels if you get oil near them. They also chip far to easily for my liking. Most gunstock oil finishes appear to b
  13. The nights are still too long for them to have to come out in daylight in any heavily shot areas, mines the same, see them with the lamp from the car but never seem to appear out in daylight untill mid March. My favourite kind of shooting that, pick a spot and get dug in then wait. To have a fox literally walk up to you, and rabbits hopping past your feet, never seen by most. I wouldn't shoot stuff in situations like that with 1 exception, I was tucked up as said with my back to a dry stone wall and the gun across my lap. A stoat appeared no more than 10ft from the end of the 12 bor
  14. Sporting shooter said it all to be honest, but to repeat, applying for both can in no way affect your entitlement to a shotgun cert.
  15. As above, bought 1 of these recently, been put together for a bloke who backed out so sold to me at cost - his deposit Never had a 410 or a modded 1 so novelty value really, should make a nice summer squirrelling gun. I just wondered what anyone thought of them who has had both this and the full hush power conversion???, big difference?? I must admit I took it out to try and the sound was exactly as I recall a 410 with no silencer , took it back home to check out and the silly bugger RFD had clamped the mod way way back down the barrel. the muzzle was almost at the end o
  16. Probably as cheap to get another gun Carlos ?
  17. "She", is the problem, she rubishes any thing in the department says and then ends up saying the same thing after forcing you to listen to the waffle for a few minutes, and "she" is only admin, I understand, not the initial enquiry bloke or the feo or a manager, I've posted on this before here, derbs are either very good or crap, toss up how it goes
  18. Police round here don't like FAC rated airguns and they now don't like .22 rimfires since the 17 hmr came along, too many ricochets .22 is the way to go, I had a 38ftlb air rifle before a .22 rinfire, the difference is staggering, the .22 IS the ultimate bunny gun, .17 too noisy. If you go for it, go your way, not the way the feo wants you to.
  19. I've bought 1 with the S/S barrel and the laminated stock late last year, took me ages to find the right gun. I also have a 77/22 with target stainless grey barrel and laminated stock, .22, it's the most accurate rifle I've shot. Had the S/S al weather 77/22 for about 10 years before that, and that 1 did do some work. What I'm saying is they are built to last, never had an issue with any, all use the same mauser bolt design, floppy when open but lock down real tight. .223, only got a mod on it recntly, and sat in 4 " of snow to try and zero it wasn't long lasting so only fired about
  20. Anyone got any Laurona chokes kicking about? I a couple short.
  21. Don't normally post in airguns, but I was searching for some obscure ruger mounts a few ago and came across several different mounts that had elevation adjustment built in. I agree with others and I would suggest zeroing at a min 20yds and concentrate on the group rather than the target centre, if it groups ok from as steady a position as possible I would doubt it's the gun. Incidentally I had a BSA sweet 17 on a 22 rimfire, that wouldn't come up to target at 60 yds, needed packing, didn't like it, swapped out the scope and all well, BSA on different gun, same problem, scope now in bin.
  22. Unless you intend to check the wind speed everytime you shoot there is little point in trying to work to charts. Now, don't get me wrong, the info is useful, but you need to have in mind that you will be judging or estimating drift, unless you are shooting sitting ducks or similar.
  23. Well I've just come in from a total blank this morning, I tend to gear up and shoot from the hedge cover but today all I did was chase the buggers around. A couple of points that may help someone. I seem to do better on a day when there is another shooter around, even if he is a mile off, keeps 'em moving. If there are 2 of you position at least a hundred yds apart, you will shoot more than 2 from the same hide and can actually scare them into each other You will have a dam hard time decoying anything if they aren't naturally feeding in that field Pick a fair distance from
  24. Strange?? 2 links added by another within 2 mins of for sale ad, strange.
  25. Try eley subs, I find them more consistent, I still get the odd cracker with super X. Never had a carbine barrelled gun, maybe they are inherrantly more noisy at the muzzle. To be honest I find my target barreled ruger 77/22 to be whiper quite, that has a SAK, the 1 before was the same gun but standard barreled and with a parker hale, I didn't notice any change when I swapped.
