if the mother to the kits was a very tame ferret . . then the kits would copy her behaviour . . though may take longer to get out of the nippy stage, as long as you handled the litter from as early as possible as much as you could and as long as you spoke to the kits even at a couple of days old to get them used to human voice then it may work . . better then them being killed at any rate, . . rather you getten bitten by the lil critters then me tho!! all the very best with what ever you decide to do Annemarie xxx

Bedlington Greyhound X Whippet Puppies
lurcher lass replied to Phil's topic in Working Dogs & Livestock
the pups are lovely mate, and nice breeding too, good luck with the sale . . -
thats mad!! did she never think where her fur came from?! as i'm sure you know their are certain aspects of the fur trade where its completly wrong in many ways, like captive bred mink, housed in small crates with many numbers and skinned alive as its easier and less strain put onto the pelt! it don't surprise me about the shooters though as far as they were concerned it was in their favour, now only rabbit and rat can be dealt with dogs means hares, foxes, deer, AND birds are all for the shooters! . . you may not change the current anti's but the people just sitting on the fence, not fo

attn all irish dog men
lurcher lass replied to dehoffmeister's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I agree pa I do believe the Irish people value their strong culture and tradition too much to let what happened in britain happen here. Doubt we will ever allow our country to become one that lacks identity and quintessential lifestyle. Too much to be proud of. well said xx -
i completly agree with you mate!!! theres a group of lads in my direction who after going to the pub then get on a quad bike and lamp and shoot anything that moves!! how would they like it if my lurcher had their pheasents

hmm interesting replies . . and i agree that its us to us to give the incorrect impression, think about how many videos there are made the legue against whatever they call themselves, all over you tube there are videos touching tom dick and harry everyday, so town folk who have no idea about hunting of any sort, simply due to lack of education and parents trying to protect their kids, hell i went to college and some girls didn't know where beef came from, i can't help thinking that there should be vids made to show ferreting etc in its true form,, so people from all walks of life see how

Beddlington X grooming..do you clipper or strip the coat ?
lurcher lass replied to a topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
it depends on how you want the coat to be, will you want the coat always short then clip,,,if you want her to still look how she does but the fur is starting to loosen then hand stripe the loose fur, thats what i'd do mate -
i know things look bleak, i'm looking for ways to try and find change, i can't help thinking if we were educated people about the countryside that they would understand and there would be less anti's around, maybe its the irish blood in me too stubbern for me own good but i can't sit back and let them ban hunting in ireland if they ban it there it feels like they've won . .

the conservative have said about reversing the ban also

lurcher lass replied to dehoffmeister's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
FECKING C*NTS!!! have they said when they want the ban to start??? i had heard word of this happpening before but not many believed me when i said it, but here we are lads the sad tale is true . . right paddy's dig yer heels in and fight against it, we've always had a good bit of stubberness just make sure ye use it in a positive way! continue hunting, film any bad antics that the anti's are doing, write up reports of dates and times of anti's tresspassing, swearing causing grief etc but most of all keep yer temper under wraps as this could easily cause trouble all the very be -
you've misunderstood wat i meant -sorry my english isn't the best . . what i mean is if we educate the city folk that way they'll develope their own opinion on hunting rather then college teens being targeted in cities by the anties with pics if lurchers covered in blood and rabbits torn to bits, we all know real lurcher people aren't like that, so say we were to educate in schools ect then there would be less people becoming anti's in the first place

meeting other dogs in the field
lurcher lass replied to Countryboyo's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
You must have come across your fair share of daft dog owners in your time. Funny story when I was a young lad me and my cousin went walking his stb up an old country lane and we hear a little corgi at the other side of a gate barking going mental at the staff . A Nun walks out of the house and shouts to us "dont worry button cant get out to you" My cousin being 12 years old and bold as brass shouts back "let the F**ker out" well you should have seen the look on the holy ladys face it was priceless and I was in stitches laughing for the rest of the walk. sorry for changing the subject but the s -
i always lamp alone, have only once lamped with company -which i did enjoy, but i love lamping alone, my pace, my dog, my choice on direction, quarrey etc i feel you concentrate more on your dog and everything else, its more quiet as no one talking and you learn more as you can come home in thought of the night's work in regards to not knowing whose around, i think your much more aware of your surroundings when alone and sometimes saftey in numbers simply isn't true . . all the best Annemarie xxx

in a recent topic regarding pre ban deer hunting, the subject on fighting the ban came up, and i think we could come up with some ideas as to how to get the antis onto our side, as the league against cruel sports (i think thats what its called) are who made the ban come about, which all leads to poor education about the countryside,, so this is what i've come up with . . i'd say we vote for the government party whose planning on reversing the hunting act of 2003, not to brag or drop ourselves or others in trouble in public, be it this site, facebook, or even the local bus stop, but

lurcher lass replied to Countryboyo's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
i know what you mean, i held the trrier by the scruff, off the ground, that went for my bitch and bit me, and had the owner not appeared i may have done something unspeakable . . can be a hand full at times, but its me job so you just have to get on with it, the most i've walked at any one time is 11 but i time this very well, usually in winter when there is no sunshine walkers around. and i know only too well about the type of woman you mean, i'd like to slap them one! so you got him at 6 months and he is now for sale at 15 months, am i old fashioned or a dying breed or something and think that dogs should be weaned from the dam and move the new home home and stay there til the end of their days... this is not directed at the seller whom i wish all the best with the sale, i just find it annoying as to how many young dogs are sold before they've even had a chance to show their true colours thats all all the very best with the sale, handsome dog, Annemarie xx

lurcher lass replied to Countryboyo's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
it happens a good bit round my way to, once a terrier came flying over, owner no where to be seen, the terrier went for a custemers dog and my working bitch, when i went to seperate it from my bitch the terrier bit me three times on the arm - luckily was wearing a jumper so only made contact once, i was walking 6 dogs at the time and the terrier was lucky that the pack didn't turn on it, i'm very strict with dogs under my care when it comes to saftey the only thing i can suggest is to introduce your dog as a pup to lots of different types of dogs perferably in this type of situation so the
