  1. On the subject of reporting people. . . . . . . . . About 3 weeks ago i went to a stud near to me to view a colt, i was taken to a barn to see what was for sale. When the owner opened the barn door i was nearly sick with the stench that hit me, and the sights before me. The dark barn was home to about 30 yearlings, all up to their hocks in shit, streaming eyes noses and full of worms. . . . the breeder then said to me "you know what they get like in the winter, but i'm sure you'll be able to see past that and realise the quailty of these animals"!!! I made my excuses and left, straig
  2. Totally agree with what you did Al, i would have done exactly the same!
  3. Hope they continue to help you, and your reunited with your dogs. Best of luck.
  4. And as i'm sure you'll agree it's listening and interrupting differing opinion from all walks of life, which allow us to become wiser. Your reply demonstrates that wonderfully.
  5. In my expierence most are beaten into submission as well, often resulting in an un sound, head shy, and generally poor animal. 18 months is way to early in my opinion, if it works for travelers thats fine, but most folk wanting a horse, this would not be the best option. I hasten to add this is MY OPINION, made through dealings i've had with ex traveller horses, and a couple of rescue cases. I'm not stating that every traveller beats their horses, just the 1's i've come into contact with have been. That was my original post . . . . . . . Point out to me exactly where I said YO
  6. I'll think you'll find i actually said "the 1's i've come into contact with" have beaten their horses into submission. Cock.
  7. Some kind of pupee/lava?? . . . . . . Oh and a couple of dirty/bitten nails!
  8. If anything i would think a man going to confront them would cause more trouble. Travellers are no more likely to rape you than a man in your local pub! I also think this would be a perfect time to use a bit of female charm . . . . . . . . especially if the person holding the dogs is male!
  9. Some great advice above, i'd add that maybe a cage in the house would be good to keep the dogs movement restricted and perhaps a buster collar to prevent her from licking. All the best to her.
  10. Don't beat yourself up about this at all. From your description it sounds like the dog had been mistreated, that said some dogs are born very very nervy. The fact it yelped and lay down would tell me that it has been hit and lost its trust in people. It would also indicate to me that it might have been better with women, due to how it reacted with the lady and her springers. As it's been advised above perhaps in hindsight keeping it in the house may have helped the dog to bond with you better. I rescued a collie a few years ago that had been ill treated and was a jibbering wreck, it
  11. Great photos. . . . . . .but rank subject. . . . . made me all shivery!
  12. Dogs who eat a lot of bones will often pass a bit of blood with faeces, as their digestive track is designed to take small tears when consuming bone. However that to me looks too much blood to be just a case of passing a jagged bone. Has he eaten anything funny/rotten? If it was mine i'd be getting them to a vet for a check up and taking the faeces/blood for the vet to see. Best of luck.
  13. How about 42 all walking to heel!! Oh and mine can line dance!!
  14. Beautiful painting, very talented. I'd give the pup a couple of days rest and see how he is then, If your worried about there being another thorn inside the pad, try soaking the pad for 10 mins in warm salt water.
  15. Go forth and conquer! That said i can relate to magpies . . . . . . . . for their love of shiny things!
  16. TEAM NIKON!!!! However that is just my opinion, both are good cameras, best option would be to get into a camera shop and have a play with them both!
  17. My o/h and I are as well Job done then!
  18. Traveling in todays society is so easy. I would recommend you make a plan of roughly where you want to go, europe is fine but very expensive compared to the rest of the world! The cheapest and i think most effective way of doing it is to get a round the world ticket, these are generally about £1000 but you get 4/6 stops as long as you go the same way round the world, they are very flexible and you can swap and change easily from anywhere in the world. Although the idea of having no plan or tickets booked etc is lovely and romantic, the reality is often very different, buying last minute
  19. IMO beddy X Whippets and borders terriers, are far better hand stripped. Clipping ruins the coat of these breeds. Miss Tarka on here is a professional dog groomer, i'm sure she could clear this 1 up!?
  20. Great post and love the pictures, Couple of very nice collies there.
  21. Fair point. What i should of added in my reply was that all my dogs are well rounded/socialised and stable within their "pack", therefore they educate puppies fairly and effectively with little involvement from me. New puppies are always left to eat/sleep and play with the adult dogs from day 1, they get the odd bite if they push it too far but nothing that has ever given me cause to get involved. You need to assess your own dogs and respond accordingly.
  22. Brilliant photos. I love the "joint retrieve" 1!
