The aire I'd my faveroute river, I spent half my childhood creeping around on its banks! It is a vastly underrated river. While talking to many fishermen on the canal they say don't even bother trying it. It's there loss. Thanks jonnie bravo I will have a look at the Bradford book, would be nice to venture a bit further. I'm a bit stuck for time and often it's a spur of the moment grab the rod and go type of fishing with me. I think this fly fishing is great and you can travel light and I bet it can become very addictive!

Wow JDarcy that trout is a bueaty. I have been getting a fair few on the aire with a small Toby lure to about 3 lbs but after fly fishing I think I'd be happier doing that and catching nothing ha ha!

Hi jok I didn't have any of them but tonight I'm going to have a sit down and order a few dry flies to add to my box. I'll get some of those ordered thank you. I'm thinking of giving the river aire a go on the fly, has anyone tried this?
-
Thanks for that I did try it but in the end went back to a single fly as I I found it landed on the water a bit gentler - my takes seemed to be within a few seconds of landing on the water and I thaught on it's own it landed a bit more naturally. I'll give it another go and a bit more time next time.

Cheers northern lad I was using 4lbs line and thaught this would be ok but I soon started to wish is braught something finer. Next time I'll try some 3 lbs line.

finally more success I had a small (half pound) brownie and a dace, on that same fly in the picture. the fly is tiny and Im really suprised what you catch them on. the water I caught them in was literally only 2 foot deep and fast. its been a steep learning curve this fly fishing!

cheers nice idea ill try that now.

last night while in my caravan in Ripon and I was sat in the doorway looking out waiting for the storm to pass and lightening struck the pylon next to caravan and cut the power supply, and tripped the switches on the caravan. I felt the shock wave and gained a new friend in my underpants! it was quite an experience. Last year while shooting in little Ouseburn another pylon was struck about 120 yards away and i felt that shock wave also. Pretty odd when your that close as it sounded like a single bang.

well I rarely go fly fishing but I have gone for a 3 day fly fishing trip on the river U R E in Ripon and so far I have only caught a chublet. I have tried the dry fly white moth in size 12, 14, 18 and grey dusters. And also tried goldhead nymphs and shrimps and im really struggling! there is literally trout topping and jumping all the time including behind me while wading! Has anyone got any advice on what to try? apart from my worm rod lol. Iv got limited signal but ill have a drive out and check for replies later.

And these lazy chavs on benifits who turn down work should be given some weekly community work to do.

Well said even that is been very accommodating, the government are a complete joke. The country is ruined after all the British went through defending itself through the war I once heard a ww2 veteran say to me if he knew the country would have turned into this he wouldn't have even bothered fighting for it the government should be ashamed of themselves.

I been there too blackmaggie, I was made redundant 2 years ago after 10 years in that job I'd paid £100 a week in tax for all that time and had to sighn on as proof of redundancy so I got my redundancy payment. It was a horrific experience going into Leeds City centre and been in a wye full if immigrants and chavs that had not worked a day in their lives and where sat outside drinking cider for an hour before going in it was like a jolly day out for them. I was grilled and made to feel like filth while I watched scum sat at tables around me for 2 minuits to sighn on and leave no questions

Must say I find it hard to believe you need to get a permit to trap red signal crayfish while your helping to lower their populations.
-
google crayfish in yorkshire i just did it and tried to put a link but i cant.. theres loads, bradford, silsden hudersfield etc Cheers, iv got a place in mind allready and planning on getting a few to try. Something iv allways wanted to do but it's a few miles away.
-
very nice! I,d love to catch a few of these and bet they are delicious. It would be nice to have somewhere to catch these but oddly i,m glad their not in my local river! what do they taste like? prawn?

Ask about ferreting, iv found it to be the easiest permission to get, no one has ever said no lol.
