I've seen a few chickens run in my day (not mine) but never wearing Nike yokes.

This thread really has become masturbation material to those who love a handsome terrier, LOL.

I was recently looking at some old photos and found one of you and ol' Pat K. washing "Tiny" in a stream after a dig. Maybe her last dig. As for the Lakeland bitch that got stolen on you ? If I remember correctly that family of Lakelands used to produce a lot of blue coloured terriers with coats on them like a coconut shell.

100% Bryan, I can think of more than one family of terriers that are now black but go back to generations of black and tan Lakeland types. One black outcross and that's that, they're now so called Patterdales.

i think you should try it.. Live on FaceBook.

She has a look of Freckles around the face Bryan, any relation ?

No different chap. It must have really upset my mate because about 10 years later he got out of terriers. Must have been a delayed reaction to my prank. That's show biz for ya.

About 14 or 15 years ago a mate of mine, Dave, judged a small show in County Cork. He ended up giving the Champion terrier to a well known showman. I got a brown envelope and wrote on it "To Dave, many thanks, from ######." and put it under the wiper on Daves windscreen. It was empty but when Dave found it he went mad. It seems Dave took his integrity a lot more serious than we did, LOL.

Then if the 3rd shot is for lepto it sounds like the vets have isolated that from the others, whereas it used to be in the same injection as the others. So can we presume that down the line it will go like this 1st week = Parvo = ££ 2nd week= distemper= ££ and so on because that's what it sounds like to me. I can buy the lot in the chemist for 11 euro and the chemist is still making his profit on that. So for a vet to do the exact same job is 60 or so euro. Nice profit. And now by law we've to go to the vet for a prescription before we can go to the chemist and get the inoculations. Th

That might be true if you keep them at home till vac,but I I've seen pups from vac bitches die from being taken to parks and public areas before being vac themselves. Why risk a potentially great worker by being frugal. Nothing to do with being frugal, but all to do with common sense. Who in their right mind would bring a young pup to a public place anyway?

Is there much scent of them? Could a dog be trained to find them ??

To call them show lines is a little mis-leading because what they were in fact were dogs bred for work but I.K.C. registered , but most never seen a show ring. Up until 1966 some of the Irish breeds couldn't become Green Star show champions unless they'd been certified game at a trial ran by the I.K.C. In the Wheatens case the trial was badger. Then the K.C. stopped running trials in '66 and the trials fell into the hands of the working dogman and were opened up to Staffords, Engish Bulls as well as the others and all their various crosses. But a lot of the old timers still registered thei

Nope, it's my birthday and not going to annoy myself. Besides, if I was in an argumentative mood I'd be over on the "Toffee" thread. I see The Canary is on there now making assumptions on someone and their terriers who he knows nothing about or ever will. He doesn't need me to make a fool of him, I'll leave him to do that himself.

Thanks for putting that up Carlovian, much appreciated. He looks like a buckskin in the photo but I think he's old in it. I remember him as a red dog. The two boys brought down some useful pure Staffs to me over the years. 30 years ago lads would have qued up with their russells to use such a dog.

They might work them but they still trace their roots back to show dogs, no biggie just saying. If they do the job it doesn't matter truth be told.If the show dogs you mention are stuff that can be traced back to trials over the years even if they where KC trials, then there's not much to say really is there. The 60/70s seen its fair share of working dogs well before that and after, the only difference was they got certified for work, not given rosettes for standing in a ring. Suppose it depends how you look at it really, doesn't it lol. It's also no secret that a lot of those K.C. register

If the vets had their way they'd have every dog getting inoculated once a week,,,,,ker ching ££££££££££££££££££ I was always led to believe that a good healthy bitch will pass on her natural immunity to a pup and this will keep a pup safe 'till around 12 or so weeks of age so any inoculations before this is a waste of time and money. Then an inoculation at 12 weeks followed by a booster at 14 weeks and this will do a dogs lifetime. The vets will tell you otherwise but it's all about the money nowadays with them and there has been questions asked about the legalities of telling us that do

Working lines DogMan, they're still out there and in the right hands too. It's a pity a few peddlers got their hands on them a few years ago but they're still out there. One little red Staff we used to dig to ,Dutch, was around 18 lbs if I remember correctly and if you crowned in behind him he'd be lying on his back with his four feet on the roof of the tube and his mouth full. He was a cracker and safe with terriers too. In those days we always started in July and often went for a pint (although I was too young to drink) after digging and we'd leave the van outside the pub with the windows

I don't think I've ever seen an EBT that would be small enough for general terrier work and I'd doubt that the miniature variety would have the inclination to go to ground. I have however dug to pure Staffs from game lines that were small enough to go to ground in most places and they worked the way you'd expect a Staff to work. Also had a couple of digs to Pit Bulls over the years but it was nearly always when things went wrong and the dig became more of a rescue than a sporting exercise. I wasn't there but one Pit Bull we used to use was let of her chain by a messer and she went to ground

JMHO but in this day and age if the SPCA's found a working type running loose with a broken toe nail they'd say it was caused by a badger and would give them the excuse and kick they need to kill an otherwise healthy dog.

Nice to see but what I find suspicious is that it's obviously a very tame fox but has only been spotted 5 times ? An escapee perhaps ?
