  1. Good stuff G, that club of yours is going from strenght to strenght and is a credit to you all.
  2. The Irish Working Terrier Federation are pleased to announce that they shall have their stall close to the terrier ring at the Game Fair being held in Birr Castle, Co. Offaly this coming Sunday, August 26th. This will enable any new clubs to sign up and any member clubs to sign up new members. Adult membership is 10 euro and junior 4 euro. The I.W.T.F. would like to give a big thanks to the organisers of The Great Game Fairs of Ireland for making this possible.
  3. A very serious issue nowadays as the slug can carry the lungworm and pass it on to your dogs, even through the trail of slime they leave. This year has been a serious year for slugs and when sweeping out kennels I sweep the slugs down the drain with all other waste. Then keep on top of your worming making sure you use a wormer that doses for lungworm, most don't. I use Parazole. Hope this helps as I speak from experience as I lost a lovely, fit pup to lungworm. It was the first time the vet had seen or heard of it. That was 5 years ago .
  4. The Irish Working Terrier Federation are pleased to announce that they will have their stall close to the terrier ring at the upcoming Game Fair at Birr Castle, Co. Offaly this Sunday, August 26th. This will enable any new club to join the IWTF and any member clubs to join up new members. Subscription is 10 euro per adult and 4 euro for junior members. The IWTF would like to thank the organisers of The Great Game Fairs of Ireland for making this possible..
  5. I spoke to Des only once on the phone and know I was speaking to a knowledgable country and fieldsports man. The reputation and acheivements of the NARGC and Des Croften is quiet well known and worthy to represent any or all fieldsports issues. It's going to be a great day for fieldsports.
  6. And no better man to put a point across. I wonder could anyone put up a link, please.
  7. That really is a fantastic offer. I would be booking my seat early, I can't see there being many empty seats on that coach.
  8. Now now Neil thats no way for a chairman of a country wide organisation to be talking to people ,Ferret Features could be a member . The man or woman has a point ,we never had to pay into a RISE rally before His words, not mine.
  9. RISE is a campaign made up of various fieldsports organisations in Ireland. As to their relationship with the IWTF ? Some of these organisations have spoke to the IWTF and some have given the IWTF advice. These organisations have been very helpfull to the IWTF and have played a big part in making us what we are today, which is amazing after only a few weeks. So in my opinion we owe RISE and should be there to support the rally. After all it is a rally that's supporting ALL fieldsports.
  10. Don't worry FF you wont be taken for an ol' idiot. With your way of thinking, we'll leave that up to yourself.
  11. The antis only organised their so called protest after RISE and The Great GameFairs of Ireland got together. Surely a few euro is worthy of supporting your sport and a day out. But that's your own buisness.
  12. Neil, It is good to have the IWTF present at Birr and I hope it helps generate good positive communications within the terrier & lurcher fraternity and them with other countrysports people. As all the main organisations will be exhibiting at Birr we felt it offered a great opportunity for RISE to demonstrate good strength of numbers. The demonstration will take place at 1.30 in the main arena - you will be otherwise engaged at that time !- but it would be good to see the IWTF represented there. Albertj And they shall be Albert. After the fantastic support shown to the IWTF b
  13. The IWTF will indeed be there Sam, both to support RISE and to have their stall there enabling any new clubs to join up. It looks like it's all adding up to be a great day and a very important day for ALL fieldsports in general. LOL, it must be putting pressure on those who oppose us,the anti's have just organised a march in Dublin on the same day.
  14. Reminds me of the one where the fellow got bitten on his manhood. He went to the doctor. The doctor said "what can I do for you ?" The fellow whips it out and says "can you take away the pain, but leave the swelling ?"
  15. I have some nice young ferrets here and looking for some good homes for them. PM me if your interested please.
  16. She's a true champion of country life and country sports. Any one else remember "Two fat ladies". I can't remember the other ladies name but sadly she died a few years ago. I then remember the Anti's showing up at the Waterloo Cup and slagging Clarrisa as they chanted "One fat lady dead, one to go" in their hundreds. Great that she's still going strong.
  17. Illegal on a lot of waters. Don't the American anglers tie a small pink fly that resembles a salmon egg and let the current bounce it along the redds where the trout are gobbling them up?
  18. You were in good company Fatman. I can only imagine what the topic of conversation was, LOL. Not like you to not bring home something for the frying pan.
  19. Sorry I missed a question on this on another thread because I was on holiday for 5 days in Knoydart after Shanes - pure bliss no car, no 'phone, no internet and no TV. One pub 1.5 miles away from where we were staying and sunshine virually every day. With walking, eating and drinking I came back ready to finish off our planning for Birr and I am afarid I didn't feel like trawling through a lot of posts on Shanes. So my apologies if you or someone else felt they didn't get an answer - as you know I normally try to answer every post - good or bad!. We had intended to split the classes at Shanes
  20. There's a bit of proof in the difference between the two. When the combining starts over here it would have no impact on the hares. Silage does however and I hate to see a field rolled a few weeks before silage harvesting. You could have something there about the hares starting to use woods more PoshPikey. I do know a few woods full of hares that are in typical buzzard country.
  21. A good terrier is one that does the job it is asked to do with the best of it's ability. End of story. There's been a lot of "beginner" questions lately.
  22. A big difference between the Irish and Brown hares Skycat is that you'll very rarely see the Irish on tillage or arable land. The odd time you might see an Irish hare on plough you'll notice how quickly her feet get balled up and slow her down. I've seen coursing meets cancelled because the hares might have to be beaten across a ploughed field or so and the slipper will refuse to slip. You don't even see Irish hares on stubble to often yet in Britain whole meets were often ran on stubble or arable. What the Irish hare does love however is pasture, especially old pasture, the kind that hasn'
  23. Yes,the constant rain wont have helped as it means a lot of liver fluke and that can effect the hare but the late hay harvest should help things a bit. The severe Winter we had two years ago either starved or drove the buzzards to pastures new around here and as a result the hare had a great breeding season last year. Anyone who thinks the buzzard is a scavanger should spend more time in the country and less time in front of the TV.
