  1. I agree with you there Neems i think a lot of Amir Khans early stoppages were similar its almost as if fighters are playing on the " not firing back " thing that go,s through a referees mind................the fact that barely a punch is landed seems to make no difference a quick windmill attack and its all over.....nobody wants to see a fighter get hurt but you cant take away the essence of what the sport is about.
  2. Cor blimey hurry up with these pictures will ya guv .............Im thick as arseholes and i worked it out in the end im sure you can..................mind you i did have my daughters help !............. Try your best mate im looking forward to seeing this now.......no pressure like
  3. Better too early than too late......but there has been some poor stoppages recently in British rings.
  4. you ever see any Ali fight's gnash ? or meet him.! The ol man took me and my brother to Highbury for the second Cooper fight but i was only 5 or 6 i cant remember anything about it......the trainer Jimmy Tibbs was like a big brother/uncle figure to us and was fighting on the undercard.... he actually sparred a few rounds with Ali just for publicity this is an old photo he gave me. Around 15 years ago while Ali was over here visiting a gym i managed to shake his hand and he whispered something in my ear but i have no idea what he said unfortunately as his speech was none too cleve
  5. No im not much of a book reader....who/whats it about ?
  6. . Loved to have been there for honygan and camacho My mate sent me a t shirt. Hagler hearns , leonard duran cezars palace there was a ticket And the beast v hagler was another. I never really used to go to fights unless i knew one of the fighters involved hence the big superfights i was happy to watch on telly like anyone else ......should of seen Ray Mancinis second fight with Bramble but our car broke down on the way ended up sitting at the roadside listening on the radio
  7. We got steady Teddy on the plot now Wilf .......i think the theory there is he,s probably the only person Carrol could beat in a running race !!! I like Carrol id like to of seen him included in the England squad he gives a great alternative if/when the chips are down.
  8. Too many to list but the most memorable for me were when i was in America mid ,s seeing Lloyd Honeyghan take Don Curry,s title there was only a handful of us all out the same gym......Boza Edwards against Camacho in Miami and my ol mucker Dennis Andries going up against Hearns at the Cobo Hall in Detroit........all memorable because neither fight was there more than a handful of British fans there.......I was one of 9 fans Dennis had against Hearns Was ringside for Bruno/Witherspoon on a totally gutting night.................would love to of been there when Frank beat McCall but was other
  9. John Fashanu for me.................i couldnt believe it when he pulled an England shirt on ................James Beattie was another one....... Matt Jarvis as well.....had a good season in a Wolves relegation side ............so Sam Allardyce go,s and pays 10 mill for him Phil Neville is another that springs to mind i,ll never forgive that f****n clown for Euro 2000 !!
  10. We moan about players diving and cheating......................it pales into insignificance compared to this corrupt c**t if its proven he shouldnt just lose his job he should face criminal charges.
  11. The marketting and selling of big fights is no different to it ever was its just the audience has changed......look at the biggest promoters through history Don King,Arum even the Duva,s years ago would all hype a fight up beyond belief........the top promoters here in England never did that as it was a different type of audience back then.... today people go to boxing as a social occasion probably only 5% of that 80k crowd the other night were true fans of boxing but fighters who create controversy are a promoters dream..............i dont buy into myself an interesting match up is what gets
  12. Yes i do think Groves is that good technically......he totally outboxed and dominated Froch for three quarters of their first fight yet didnt build on that in the second................I could have the most lethal shotgun in the world,if i dont know how to use it i wont do damage with it.......plenty of fighters never reach the potential their talent suggests they can but itscertainly annoying when the thing that holds them back is arrogance.
  13. Get what you pay for......if im not going to hear the punches getting home id rather watch it on telly ............ive said it before and last night was a good example......80k people and the atmosphere was nowhere near as good as 1200 people in the York Hall.
  14. yeah i only ever go in the cheap seats ..........ive watched footie up in the skys at Wembley before that was bad enough......but watching a fight from right up there i dont get that be better watching it on the telly......atmosphere i suppose.
  15. Think how you would feel if you had paid 1500 then .....Not that i paid that much mind you.
  16. I cant see Groves ever winning a world title.............annoys me in a way the arrogance some of these young fighters have, what some of us would of done for half their ability.......yet he seems to think he is beyond guidance........this will be a good indicator of where exactly Groves is at as a character. Stylistically i fancied Groves to upset Froch based on their first meeting but you cant go into a fight against someone like Froch with no real plan and think you can just coast through on ability alone......id be very surprised if he stays with his current trainer. Where Froch go,
  17. Many thanks to you chaps who donated .....passed by the statue yesterday certainly a nice piece of work. The day went well apparently there was a good turn out and a nice few bob raised Then went to another local statue to pay our respects.....cant believe where the time has gone but 20 years this month since a lovely lad close to me paid the ultimate price.....Bradley Stone was a close family friend and a real rough little kid out the flats just trying to do his best in the sport he loved.......god i miss that cheeky little smile.....20 years and never forgotten RIP.
  18. Crazy as it sounds....the big advantage Frank had was he didnt win an Olympic gold !!................Olympic medals mean instant fame and are a complete hindrance on pro fighters in my opinion...................outside London nobody knew who Frank was till he,d had 20 odd pro fights under his belt these kids today are scrutinized from day 1 and it does them no good in my opinion. Who knows where Joshua will go any more than hundreds of other 5 fight pros starting out on the long road to success.......yes he,s a big strong hard hitting kid.....does he have the insides for it ? does he have the
  19. Well what a turn up that was.....havent watched it back on telly yet but i think the last thing anyone expected was a tactical stand off with boos ringing round the gaff i thought it was a pretty poor fight really all things considered.............i cant for the life of me understand why Groves wasnt trying to build on the success he had in the first fight he got it totally wrong in my opinion, far too passive, didnt use any angles just stood in front of him......i have to say last nights show was the perfect example for me of just how important getting the best trainer you can is....im always b
  20. Most of the mid round betting was at least 28/1 and 33/1 Groves................8th round ko with Betfred was 28/1 dont know what you was doing there Stig
  21. 15 years down the toilet over money.......................id choose my friends more carefully.
  22. You dont get to the level Froch is at through being driven by money.............money motivates anyone but at this stage of his career its pure competetive spirit that gets you through a training camp. Must admit im looking forward to this show tomorrow more than ive looked forward to a show in a long time my boy Kevin Mitchell has a big crossroads fight once thats out the way i,ll be able to relax and watch the Froch fight but for all the hype and bullshit surrounding these 2 its a genuinely interesting fight that you just cant see being anything other than exciting to watch.
  23. Trust a scouser !!............Ive just come back off holiday with a scouser pal of mine and his wife. .....they do say the true test of friendship is going on holiday together....f**k me am i glad to be back amongst my own ok i,ll send you one.........................with a blue aerosol can
  24. Not that easy for some of us though mate is it.....love is blind and all that Anyway thankyou chaps, every little helps.......feel free to chuck the link up on any other forums yous go on where a few more folk might sign......cheers
  25. Hope you enjoyed your day mate i was well chuffed for you..... heres a pic a mate of mine took on the Holloway Rd. Just a little appeal to any footie fans really, maybe you could take 5 minutes to have a read and hopefully sign the petition if you agree......an old ex fighter mate of mine Roy has been going on about this for ages and it seems to be picking up momentum.....its something that could happen to any of us at any time and is a complete injustice to a good man who has done a lot of work in keeping young boys off the street.......Islington Boys Club probably wouldnt be around
