what i am saying is its the best ratting dog ive seen. ive seen many rats killed but only by small amounts of terriers. ive never hunted with big packs but i am sure its great fun. i can only go on what ive seen . over forty years of hunting small amounts of dogs . ive never had massive hauls.. so couldnt comment

ive a young lady that takes epileptic fits in my house. she took a seizure in the bathroom at 3am. fell and bust her head and got jammed between the bath and the pan. she tas upturned and gurgling with her mouth full of blood. she was dead for sure but for her terrier standing beside her barking. waking me up. no sign of aggression. from a very gassy dog.. on a different note there are dogs trained to bark to warn a sufferer of an impending seizure. obviously the experts have missed the fact that after warning the person to sit or lay down somewhere safe the canine will then maul them.

its good to hear of the odd Kerry doing a bit.. but i'll bet these are the exeption rather than the rule. most are nothing more than poncy poodles now show bred for many generations. as for breaking sticks for working terriers. ive been away from the game for a while now but i wouldnt of thought it had changed that much. it used to be a mans game. Why do you think you need a dash of other blood? If you've got to put other blood in then surely the Russell blood isn't good enough. This isn't a dig, mate. Just interested to know. kranky if you look closer to what your saying. its flawed reasoning. we breed to keep good stock. as good if not better. so we look for something with a bit extra. hopeing to improve our dogs qualities. therefore if we breed better the stock we took them off was inferior. just sayin -

Parson Russell Terrier
Cleanspade replied to Passionate~Hunter's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
thats easy bosun. once they registered the PARSON JACK RUSSELL. they had to distance it from the identical JACK RUSSELL. otherwise everyone would have bought the identical unregistered jack russell for half the price . after these JACK RUSSELLS were regd they where still overlooked by folk trying to get identical terriers for a keener price.making them hard to shift. hence a second name change. taking the JACK. out of the JACK RUSSELL. and replacing it with parson. this seems to have helped with moving the overpriced JACK RUSSELLS on. .as PARSON RUSSELLS. hope this clears thing up for you -
As you get older or experience more. then death becomes a part of life, grief takes many guises and humour believe it or not is a big part of grieving so dont confuse it with not caring as that would be an immature, inexperienced thing to do very true.

working ability has fook all to do with looks. ive seen some decent lines that look good and work well. ive lost count of the amount of ugly dogs that where pishpoor as well as being ugly . if bred for looks then of course working ability will suffer. but that dosnt mean any tidy dogs arnt up to the job. . stuff and nonsense -
IT was old wullie the border chap. dont know if it still is.

a terrier and lurcher would also be my choice

the plummer terrier club of great britain on facebook. will have some info. also. i would go for a pup from dogs that are regularly being worked in the same way you intend to work your own. as for lines there are folk better suited to this information than me. alb -

she works with ferrets the lurcher. the gun. she works cover and works to ground. allthough is on the big side for earth work.. she is a good dog for me to be honest. and would have another from similar lines in a heartbeat. google the working plummer terrier. or search on facebook and you will find plenty of info on most lines of plummers. do your homework and if the breed suites you pick carefully of working lines. -

this is getting to be a habit lol . Saxon gypsy. my oldest plummer. good allrounder. -
its difficult thats for sure. i let my last old bitch hang around a little to long. i only realised after she was gone that i had let her down and should have had the common sense to put her away a little sooner than i did. you have to ask yourself if you are being selfish and keeping them going for your own feelings. thats what i did. i new she should be down the road. i just didnt want to part with her. she was a little good one and carried lines to others i had kept and worked. its a big responsability. that should be faced head on. i dont envy you stig. my oldest dog is 9 now. so hopefull
