  1. Reading Millets thread it stuck me that we have simular backgrounds. My father died @ 42 when I was 12 and my mother died @ 42 when I was 17. Most people would say hard luck and I honestly think they would be right. One thing it did teach me at a young age is that life is not permenant, were born, we live, we die. The numbers of years inbetween are really irrelevant. The purpose of being on this earth is to propegate the spiecies, once we have done that we are superfluous to requirements. Once you have raised your kids and they have produced offspring then your job is done. There w
  2. If you drop down tomorrow and have a half decent dog, I would imagine by Saturday there would be a queue at the door waiting to take it. If however, you just have the normal run of the mill working dogs. Would any of your "mates" want it? What does the other half do with the dog then? Sati?.......... Would you want them buried with you?
  3. Let me get this right. You plan to use the product as flea control, hoping that a side effect will be infertility in the jill? It sounds to me like it could work but it would not pull the jill out of season just make the mating (that would pull the jill out of season) non viable, if indeed it does act as a fertility inhibitor? 5. Just had a quick google and apparently stoats and weasels are easily imprinted and tamed. http://wildpro.twycrosszoo.org/S/00Man/MammalHusbandryTechniques/UKMHusbIndTech/HR_M_Mustelinae.htm I had forgotten about Mary queen of Scotts she had a tame stoat that used to wear a collar. TC
  6. I can remember going back nearly 50 years. It has always been the same, when I was a kid I was big into trout fishing. The season would end in September and we would start rabbiting straight away. Come the middle of January sometimes Febuary depending on the weather we would start to get pregnat doe's as soon as they showed up we stopped. and the fishing would start on the first of March. Every year seems different, but only by a couple of weeks. The days are lengthening and all animals and birds minds turn to sex, wish my wifes would. TC
  7. Teak oil is just boiled linseed oil. Plenty of coats with enough time for it to soak in and you will have a nice shine that is waterproof. TC
  8. This morning had what at first glance seemed to be a Greenfinch on the feeders. So I took a few pics through the kitchen window. When I uploaded the pics to my PC it did not look like a Greenfinch, more like a Siskin. I know there are some members who are very familier with British finches, so any help wouild be welcome, I have just noticed that there is the bottom half of the smae type of bird on the feeder. Here is one for a size comparison with a Goldfinch. Any help will be most welcome. TC

You Barstewards it is driving me crazy  It is all in gobbldygoog, It takes me hours just to find a button. It has just taken me a good hour and a half to work this out. " Select the Rectangle tool. Select the Rectangle tool from the toolbox and then click the Shape Layers icon in the options bar. Now, the Rectangle tool creates a vector shape on a new layer. (Adjacent options let you create a path or a rasterized

  12. As above why? In my case, I am getting a little (allright a lot) over the hill. It keeps me in touch with hunting and even after 50 odd years I still learn things. Most of my sober posts are to help people if I can. Most of my posts when I am in "my cups" are somewhat disjointed as per this post. I get angry, I get sad, as with the thread today about the child with pnemonia, I had tears running down my face when I read that. Sometimes I feel that someone has to say 'it' so I do. Other times I think what the fcuk is the point? They are not going to listen anyways!! So why do you po

  14. When are people going to realise that we are considered as cannon fodder. People in power feel our life and lives should be dedicated to making them ritcher. TC
  15. She was flying well when dropped to 2lb1oz, but would respond all-be-it slugishly up to 2lb 3oz that said, she was in her third season. By the end of the season she would still hunt @ 2lb 1.5. TC
  16. Well I used to................. Can't do that anymore. Then I used to...........Can't do that anymore. Basically I am skint. TC
  17. One thing that has not been mentioned is that the birds will be in moult throughout the summer. The longer you keep them at flying weight the longer they will take to moult. I suppose what work you are doing with the birds counts, if it's just the presence of the bird? Then it can be flown at a higher weight and still allow the bird to moult. Some Austringers do fly their birds through the moult, as the bird would do in the wild. But generally the bird is put up in the summer and it's weight increased to allow it to moult. The way hawks feed has alway facinated me, the way they make a

Intresting, never heard of it though. But that is not unusual as there is no history of long netting in this area. TC
  19. Just a thought, is your lurcher broken to ferrets? If not it could end up very embarrassing for you. TC

First you line your piece of stick and do a hitch at the end, it can be wider than shown. Next do a figure of eight loop around the stick. Then rotate the stick a little and repeat. Then just keep figure of eighting and rotating the stick. The advantage of doing this is that you load more twine quicker than just by winding it onto a stick. Every so often do a half hitch and place it in the center then if you drop the stick it won't all unwind. TC

    Crows Nest

Never heard of that, do you mean the way it is wound, like a brickie winds his line on the line pins? If it is? You hold a stick in your left hand make a small bundle of twine around the stick by twisting the twine on the stick, once you have the bundle you then make oblong figure of 8 loops over the bundle and at the same time you rotate the stick a quarter of a turn to the left after each loop. In practice you normally just keep winding and turning the stick at the same time. TC
