I'll concede that. I won't fly from the car because of the poor quality flights that you get and the fact that it's just killing. Maybe you could to build a birds confidence but it's not for me. I'd much rather stalk up on something and then get a slip from the glove and watch that flight. You're quite right, if the quarry gets away after flying well I'd always be pleased. I use a catapult to give the quarry more of a chance than with a gun. You have to realistically get within 15 yards of your target to achieve a kill. I know I often post about longer kills but I've been at this catapult

If you must be answered She was in yarak @ 3lb 1oz would follow on up to 3lb 3.5oz The reason she would not take pheasants is because there are no shoots in this area and the nearest ones you could not get permission within a couple of miles of them. Does that help? TC

Ocet, Without being sarcastic that is impressive, you do not get a shot at those birds without having some skill, in stalking or decoying. Those photos are to be admired, unlike a moulting mallard taken off a canal. Yes you have to hit the bird in the right place to effect a kill, but hunting is about more than the kill, and as you have flown a Musket you will know what I am on about. The hardest flights are usually the best, really testing and when they pull it off the most satisfying. How many really good flights have you seen where the bird did not make the kill, but did it matter to yo

The reason I am bothered is because I don't want to see any type of hunting lost because of some stupid boasting and bad hunting practice on the internet. Just carry on and I promise you, you will lose the right to hunt with a catapult. I do not hunt with a catapult but would hate to see that right lost. TC

You just don't see I have no problem with BPR he shoots vermin with his catapult, and a very good shot he is. What I do have a problem with is people shooting game out of season. Mugging a Mallard in moult or popping off some half tame pheasant out of season is not really the pinnacle of ethics is it? To be honest it does not really require any skill as they are semi tame and you can walk right up to them, not to mention the fact that it is illegal. BPR in his videos shoots pigeon and rabbits non of which have a season, he has worked hard to get where he is shooting a catapult wise, many

There in that posts lays a major problem with peoples perception of field sports. TC Ah well Another one who's ego is bigger than his brain. Who thinks that by blocking out their face no one will know who they are. Then admits to killing any animal if in season or not and thinks he is invisible. Unbelievable. TC

New Hutch Am Building For The New Arrivals
Tiercel replied to resistance's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
The problem with timber care stuff, is. It cannot permeate glue and that is what sterling board is glue, with some wood shavings. The only way of stopping it de laminating and to waterproof it is to cover the outside of the board to stop water getting into the board. TC -

A tip for you. That will save you a lot of money in the long run. Get down to you local roofing supplier and get some flow coat to cover the sterling board with. Paint it on thickly and the boards will almost last forever. TC -
White, The so called micro ferrets are just small ferrets, they are not a sub-species just a small ferret. They need the same care and attention as a normal ferret, no more, no less. TC

A mate of mine when we were kids had one that was crossed with a JR. Snappy little bugger, but sh!t hot on rats. He used to live about 100 yards from the river and the dog would take himself down the river every day chasing the rats. That was the first dog I seen doing the flick and snap. he would grab hold of a rat where ever he could, flick it in the air then grab and shake as the rat was coming down, there were not many alive when they touched the floor. That's kind of the beauty of the catty. Can stop the car at the side of the road, bag a woody for the pot and be on your way. No one bats an eyelid. That's the way it should stay. You can even shoot out of season game and get praised for it. TC

I think it may be a Moorhen, but I am often wrong. TC

Photo? TC

Coot is correct, the sparrowhawk is, in fact, tree creeper....obviously the photo makes size difficult to judge......good guessing!! I would never have got that. I thought it was in some sort of cavity and because of the size the eggs looked my first thought was Kestrel but the eggs were wrong. TC

Just done a search as I was doubting my memory. It looks as if I was right to doubt. I would now say it is Tree Pipit. It is them that have the smaller claw. TC

I hope no one mentions Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry. TC

Rock Pipit I do think your right but it's the back toe thats the only difference isn't it? Rock Pipit was my gut feeling, it was the striped head that swayed me towards a Meadow Pipit. As to the back toe I do not know, but the Rock Pipet is larger than the Meadow Pipit. The Rock Pipet is tied to the coast and is very rarely seen inland whereas the Meadow Pipit can be seen inland as well as the coast. TC Bloody double quotes.

Looks like a Meadow Pipit. But the way my luck is going today It might well be a Raven. TC

I had my second outing nesting this afternoon. Another disaster, I did find a couple of wrens nests but not one that was being used. Funny how some simple things I had forgotten about come back to you. Like if your looking for water birds wear fecking wellies I did see a grey wagtail with building material, and spent an hour trying to capture a photo of a dipper, they never stay in one place more than a couple of seconds, after I seen it seeing off a Carrion Crow I know roughly the area the nests will be in, but no fecking wellies to have a good look. First good looking spot for a wren

It wasn't that, I cocked up thinking the first photo had 5 eggs and did not go back to check when I answered your question. Funnily enough I have never found a Mistle thrushes nest nor did I know of anyone that had. Yet I was brought up in a similar valley to Johnny. TC
