    I have read it from the start, I was merely stating that even with an injection into a vein it can take an animal up to three minutes to expire. TC

    Check out preparing Gurnard in the link, that is how I do it, and they are one of the best tasting fish in the sea, along with a John Dory that is. TC

    If your pumping blows with the pump, do it very slowly and smoothly, they do not call them blows for nothing But if you are getting that amount of blows whole don't think you are doing much wrong and blacks will be a dawdle. TC

    Yep the warmer it is the deeper they go usually, that said, they still have to cast but they stay at the top of the burrow for less time than normal. As with wind and sun it dries the beach out quicker and they like moisture. It really is difficult to say they do this or that, all you can do is generalise. Different wind directions will affect how they cast, high pressure or low pressure will all affect how they behave. I have seen beds that you know are ram packed full of worms, not cast till low water on high pressure. Same bed on low pressure and they cast as soon as the water uncovers the

    If you get the washers right you will find one squirt of fairy will last you a good 4 hrs. Making the pump was the easy part now you have to learn how to use it. A few tips for you. Don't try and pump every cast you see, look for wet or secondary casts. If you see the hole in the centre of the cast it means that the sand has dried out, and you will have less suction. If you can follow the tide out so any casts you see will be fresh and the worm will be at the top of it's burrow.     When you make a pump you can make it to suit your physic, it is no good having a 2ft pump if your 6ft 2 or having a 2ft plus pump if your 5ft 2. To make one you need a piece of stainless pipe seamless if possible around the hight of your ball sac. I have always used old Avey pull rods but a piece of stainless rod of about 10mm with a nut welded on the end will do the job.15 to 20mm pipe to make the handle and a drilled tufnel / nylon washer for the top of the pump. make your own washers out of silicon.     Make one, far better than the Alveys The first home made one I seen was made from copper pipe and it worked well 25/ 30mm stainless pipe use an alvey pull rod and make silicon rubbers less than half the effort for far better results. I pumped blacks and blows every winter for 15 years believe me they are far better. TC

    That first photo, wow what a chop for a team of three, easier to spot the fish as well, bibio on top dropper and two spider patterns beneath, short lineing. Lovely bit of cloud as well. Beautiful scenery lucky man. TC

    Personally I would not like to see them eradicated, reduced yes. But I do not have to live with them. As you stated they have lived side by side for a long time. Eradicating them just on the hope that Shearwaters will breed is a bit OTT to me. Control the numbers by all means but what makes the shearwaters any the more special than the true British rat Ratus Ratus. Just my opinion. TC

    It is my understanding that even with a normal injection into a vein the animals passes out first, then it takes approx 3 minutes before the heart attack actually kills it? While it may not seem as quick a death by the injection to the stomach, as the animal seems to be concious longer, is the animal actually feeling any pain? If it is not then I would say that there is no harm done. However, if it is in pain then to my mind it is not an acceptable practice. TC

    Those look very healthy to me Johnny. Nowt wrong with those. As a side note I tried carrots in a container this year, in among the mint, hoping to hide them from the carrot fly. :no: the buggers still found them. TC

TC Have a look at British sea fishing.co.uk shore caught bass minimum size 16ins/41cm I think you will find 14.25 ins/36cm is defra sizes for commercial/boat fishing The 16" rule is voluntary code, and merely club rules for bass to count in competitions. The legal size is 36cm no if's and's or but's. There is no distinction between shore and boat caught fish in law. TC

    If there is, it has to be a fair bet that they are fished out. Most admiralty charts show known wrecks, it's the ones not on the charts you need to find. TC
