  1. There is one patch that is always early, 100 yards away they are still green, I picked just over a kilo in less than 20 minutes yesterday. and there were still plenty left. TC
  2. Darbo, Cawl is basically a meat and veg broth. Each area of Wales has it's own way of making it. Some use brisket bones. but I mentain that cawl is made with lamb. When I make Cawl it is with Lamb bones neck, backbone, breast or even leg bones. When I make it it is a two part job, first I boil the bones or breast to make the stock, to the bones I add1 leek, 2 onions, salt & pepper, lamb stock cubes x 2 and a small grated parsnip. Boil that on a rolling boil for about 2 hours. Once the parsnip has disintergrated in to the stock I then take all the bones out and add the veg. I use ca
  3. Terry, Those spuds look like Kestral to me, roundish tubers, shallow eyes and the purple around the eyes. I may be wrong as there are a lot of potatoes with a similar discription. First earlies? Try marrow rum with one of those marrows. Cut off the top, scoop out the center with a marrow spoon, then push a knitting needle through the bottom, place the marrow in a pair of tights, bottom end down and fill the cavity with rum and let it drip till all the rum has come out of the body of the marrow. Another way I have eaten marrow is stuffed in the oven. Stuff the marrow with a spiced m
  4. After picking the blackberries this afternoon I decided to make some jam out of some of them. It really is a super easy recipe and only takes less than half an hour, and the jam tastes out of this world. Recipe 700g Blackberries. 1Kilo of jam sugar. Place the blackberries in a microwave proof bowl and cook on high for 7 minutes. Take the bowl out of the micro and roughly mash the fruit. Add the kilo of jam sugar and stir it in, put the bowl back in the micro and cook on high for a further 14 minutes, test for set and put in jars. You will get three jars out of the measurements.
  5. Believe it or not these have been ready for about 3 weeks. The first ones I seen were in the last week of June. This patch is always early for some reason 100 yards away they are all still green. TC
  6. We eat a lot of leeks in our house, we use them as a veg with dinners, in cawl obviously and as baby leeks whole with cheese bake on top. I have usually run out by Christmas so this years I grew a few more. There are in the first plot at normal spacings for larger leeks and 96 in the smaller plot at 4" spacings for baby leeks. With these I use a bulb planter to make the holes to puddle them in With the closer spacings I just trench them then puddle the trench. TC
  7. Had my first pick of blackberries this year, it is a bumper crop it only took me about 20 minutes to pick enough for a tart and crumble, and there are still plenty left. TC
  8. I have always had an interest in the history of ferreting, while doing some research this morning I came across this site It was interesting to see the difference between the greyhounds of yesteryear and the dogs of today. TC
  9. Your in luck, the member is still active and was on line a few days ago. I don't think you can send messages yet so I will send him a link to the thread, then if he wants he can pm you. TC
  10. That is superb. Plant that in the right setting, take a photo. Who is to say it is not real. TC
  11. They could be filled with polystyrene inside for insulation of the floor, have you broken one to see? TC
  12. I really appreciate what you and Al are doing for me. I know from experience how frustrating it can be when people cannot grasp what is to one's self a simple concept. In my defence anything I see in Linux I have to translate as it is a totally new language to me. Take the command prompt, one of the first things I seen was the consul short cut on the desk top and thought thats handy. Yet when Al called it a terminal I was lost. With use, the language will become familiar but as I cannot have the computer at hand hooked up, I am limited to what I can do immediately. Once I finish today's wo
  13. You have to have a bacteria tank separate so that you can adjust the balance between nitrates and nitrites. Or a stream out side the back door where you can pump the water in through the kitchen window, though the tank and out through the living room window back into the stream. Ideal situation that. TC
  14. I had noticed. Had this been windows I was trying to sort, I think I would have done it by now, with a lot of help. But it seems to me at the moment it seems with the different language for basically the same item, it is making it more difficult for me. I know Linux is an open source, but it does seem as if it is built for geeks by geeks (I may be wrong) for the want of a better term. The problem is with me is files I do not have a clue, I never forget a route or a face. But ffs don't ask me to put a name to the face. Friends of the wife phone and I can never remember their name, I kno
  15. That is excellent work first time or not. TC
  16. Just a thought what if the chip set is not Realtec but just uses RTL drivers? Al I have not installed those links yet as the PC is back upstairs as I started back work today and needed the room. I will try them later on tonight. TC
  17. Al, I think you are crediting me with more nouse than I have. What is a Teminal? It's taken me a dozen years to learn the windows terminoligy I have no chance with the linux one. I am at the age where It's a job to remember my own name. I take it $ apt-get install git is done in their version of command prompt? TC
  18. I tried all of those, the problem is, slacko has found my modem which is non wireless but cannot detect the wireless adapter I suspect it is because of vista as it does not support vista drivers. So I tried a wrap on XP drivers and even though I went through all the configurations it still would not connect. The number of time I have had it to within a gnats cock of loading has to be seen to be believed. TC
  19. State of play, No wireless as yet. Ran it yesterday on the RJ 45 and had a couple of lock ups with it. When I came on here, it was alright speed wise, until I opened a second or third window, then it just ground to a halt. That could just be the machine not having enough RAM? Any how I need the space so it is packed away till next week end. CM those do look like a good option if I cannot get the wireless working. In the meantime I will try and get it onto the wireless network. TC
  20. Darbo, I could not miss the Cwrt y Cadno as we call it, you have there, (mares tail.) One of the guys on the allotment eventually got rid of his using round up and fairy liquid. Apparently because it is a waxy plant it does not absorb the weed killer. He used to mix the round-up as normal then add a big squirt of fairy to the mixture, then using cotton gloves over a pair of marigolds would dip his hands into the mixture and rub it into the plant. The idea was that the fairy broke down the wax in the plant and allowed the weed-killer into the plant. It did take a long time but it did work,
  21. THis one? https://packages.debian.org/sid/p7zip-full Or which one? http://www.7-zip.org/download.html TC
  22. http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PFid=48&Level=5&Conn=4&ProdID=272&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false&Downloads=true TC
  23. Realtec RTL8188 I have downloaded the latest linux drivers. Just need to sort out how to add them to the list now. Tried dragging and drop but it did not work, but it does allow it, cos I done it yesterday. I will get there at some point. TC
  24. First post on puppy linux slacko. Now to get the wireless running.
