    Thing is though, you shouldnt need to add bull to it for it to function as a versatile lurcher. If a 70+lb dog needs the addition of bull in order to function then the dhxgh used is not of sufficient quality to justify breeding from it in the first place. Also if you add bull you will probably reduce speed and add some bulk which may mean that some of the pups lack the length of leg and top end speed to cope well with some of the scenarios where these big dogs can excel. Dont get me wrong I have nothing against bull x, nor do I have any particular bias towards dh over any other cross.

    I think a DHXGH bitch with a full bull put over her would produce a more versatile deerhound lurcher.

    Here here Bosun,Ive been trying to bred a good big replacement game brood bitch for about 5yrs now. Even breeding from a big bitch and a big dog doesnt guarantee it. Ive noticed the same with terriers,they get bigger when you want them smaller and lurchers get smaller when you want them to get bigger lol

    Harcombe and Powell arent saying they have good dogs and everybody elses dogs are shit. Its everyone here getting in a tissy about it and having a pop at them when really theyve done nothing wrong and its nothing to do with them.

    Im interested to know what dedicated long ear boys think on this.Will all dogs quit eventually if a course goes on long enough? And when you are really rating a dog are you just judging the dog who is last to quit?

    Foxdropper Im going to stick my neck out and speak for DH and many other men who hunt with dogs. Theres many people who go out shooting foxes on the lamp for fun and not to kill problem foxes. The problem with this is that its just to effective and a whole county can be decimated in one night. I think its mostly this type that DH is harping on about. A boy was on here last year with I think 40 foxes hung over a gate that him and his pal had shot in one night and only stopped because the battery ran out. Doggy men have some ejjits in their ranks but so sadly do shooters.

    Im not saying that we dont have a part to play and be active in defending our sport but I strongly beleive that all our subscription paid fieldsports societys should be spearheading responces to the media programmes. They should be all over these media antis like a fecking rash.

    Im wondering is there any work being done yet regarding media promotion/information on legitimate/necessary terrierwork. Many months ago a media onslaught was brought on hunters in the UK and Ireland and is set to continue on TV/Radio and print. Im wondering are any of the Fieldsports groups or terrier/lurcher clubs preparing any type of public defence?

    As much of a pain in the axse as it is I think you should follow it through.I think submitting to police ignorance and saying nothing is part of whats brought us to our current situation regarding public opinion on hunting. I think we now need to take every opurtunity to inform police,public etc of hunting law and also the true nature of hunting and its neccesity. Like I said a pain in the axse but if we dont start doing this we are going to lose more ground inch by inch.
