I haven't read his books to be honest mate, I read big game books as a kid because they were a form of escapism, the guy piers is interviewing has lived a life less ordinary, piers is funny in that clip "shot them to death" there would have been a far bigger outcry if he had just "shot them to wound".

Venturing into the white man's grave to earn a precarious living hunting tusks, I read one account of a bloke seeing elephants from a train, pulled the emergency cord to hop off and shoot a couple, I am sure he left a couple of natives there to cut out the tusks and arranged for them to be collected on the return journey.

For some, especially the dentist who killed Cecil, I think its about the experience, everything, there's just been a guy here transiting through the city to catch a flight south, been up past Nunavut, lived out on the ice for 10 days I think in -30 to hunt a polar bear, can't even take the skin back home as its non importable, he did it for the experience, the first nation guides took the animal, they sold the tag.

I read a book as a kid, Death in the long grass maybe?The author told a story of a hyena taking part of a natives face off as he slept, the swahili name for them is fisi? Loved those type of books.

I think without hunting dollars in some 3'rd world countries the animals would be greatly reduced in number quite quickly.

I have actually been "Treed" by a rhino while walking, had two charges, one was a bluff but we still ran to a tree, second we got up the tree and the rhino snorted and stomped around under it.
