  1. HARES ARE AT THERE BEST JUST NOW. IF THEY WERENT THE WATERLOO CUP WOULDA BEEN IN NOV/DEC. I can remember the Waterloo Cup being run in October and the highlights were on the TV Y.I.S Leeview
  2. Short of making 2x25yds nets out of your 50yds net, I'd put your net in a U shape round one end of the hedge and work the ferrets towards it from the opposite end it would be a big help if there was at least someone to help you and the dog would be of use also on the clean side Good Luck Y.I.S Leeview
  3. Malts posted a link of a leveret newborn, the mother will of been mated Xmas day and the biggest part of the country was below freezing and covered in snow Y.I.S Leeview
  4. Glad you got that of your chest joined October 10 and taken this long to post Y.I.S Leeview Oh and Welcome
  5. I'd say its over a day old hares will drop the leverets at night and leave them, she'll come back the next night feed and spread them around singly(hence why I think its over a day old)she will then visit them to feed them only once a night and they will nibble vegetation from a very early age. As you say they rely on staying motionless to survive Y.I.S Leeview
  6. How long roughly is this short hedge? Can you get the longnet round both ends of it and one side? Y.I.S Leeview
  7. Carry on with it to 10mts may take time but its all practise and experience and it will be worth it IMHO Y.I.S Leeview
  8. I put 3 boxes each with 2collars on here last weekend prior to going on the bay,the 15ft sold on here for a sensible offer, the other 2 8fts went on to the bay 1st one made £150 the second made £137 so more than satisfied at that Y.I.S Leeview ps there's one on there now 8ft box and 3collars up to £170 and still a day to go
  9. Bet you wish you had a camera or better still a video cam with you? just for posterity of course not to let everyone see him Y.I.S Leeview
  10. No idea as I would nt use 6z for a longnet too heavy 4z is a lot better material for a longnet. 500gm spool would make you a nice 20-25yd net depending on depth, mesh size and knots used and bagging so quite variable Y.I.S Leeview
  11. Which net has caught the most rabbits doing it like that? How I work the ditches and hedgerows very few rabbits bolt across the field they're more likely to run the length of the ditch or hedgerow without leaving its cover for this reason I put stop nets (15-25yarders)through the ditches and hedgerows and then just moving one net further on each time I move on Y.I.S Leeview
  12. 14 half meshes+a top and bottom selvedge is what I prefer and I do like more net on the floor, angle your poles at 60degrees away from where the rabbits are and they will be on the net before they touch the suspended net and get tangled up in the net on the floor I'd carry on and possibly make it 15-20yds stop net which is a very handy size to have Good Luck Y.I.S Leeview
  13. Ah with you now Y.I.S Leeview
  14. You will NEED to learn to "read" your dog, the dog will let you know and they dont all mark the same way so thats where you have to learn what the dogs telling you Y.I.S Leeview
  15. this concern about the pins striking each other? When I've picked the net up onto 1 pin then the opposing end pin finally I slip a piece of cycle innertube over both pins to keep the pins together and stops the net falling/sliding off the one pin Can you please tell me where this noise occurs? surely the first pin is placed in the ground and the distance between the pins increases as you run the net out? Y.I.S Leeview

  23. Couldn't agree more pal, As I said, Chances are it would bolt rabbits. I never said it would be a worker I like ferrets that bolt rabbits when they're working Have nt you ever had a rabbit bolt while netting up before the ferrets been put in? I know I have plenty of times Why? because rabbits are preyed upon and flee to survive another day Out of curiousity can you tell me what you call a working ferret? Please Y.I.S Leeview
  24. Chances are rabbits would bolt from it,there is a difference and that does nt mean its working Y.I.S Leeview
