  1. xbox 360, though the blue ray player is tempting to the ps3. The charge for xbox live is worth it, though not being wireless from the box is a pain in the arse.
  2. Have a close look at the meshes on some of your shaped nets. As moe says, start with 9 or 10 on the ring then add an extra mesh on the end of a few rows until you get it the width you want, then knit. Whenever you are coming back down to the ring again, knit two meshes into one. Shaping them also makes your roll of twine go further. Good on you for making your own, it gets addictive. That rayon twine is nice to work with too, has a natural feel to it. atb with the nets, and if I can help at all, feel free to pm me, and I will do my best to help.
  3. You don't need a school. It happens to us all, just part of learning. Try and find a local ferreter to help would be your best bet. or even a mate with an open mind to keep an extra set of eyes out over the buries. Just keep plugging away, good things will happen.
  4. When there's always biscuits in the tin. Where's the fun in biscuits.

  5. I have 22 purse nets, 4 are from last season the rest are brand new. All are made shaped and stitched onto the rings. There a 2 2ft and 2 4ft the rest are 3ft 6". Also a 5ft poke net £45 posted Here's some being used http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=129696
  6. Nets still available, have around 20 in total plus poke net. Last batch of nets can be seen in use on festa' post http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=129696
  7. Good job, dogs doing well. When does the pup start?
  8. So it's not possible? The 8ft mark 1 collar can't be used as a 15ft mk1 collar, even if the cap is changed the batteries are different? I don't mean the micro collar either, just the standard 8ft collar.
  9. I know the mk3 collars are picked up by the mk1 box. I was wondering if the only difference between the mk1 8ft and the mk1 15ft is the battery cap? As in I have a mk1 8ft collar, and if I was to buy a mk3 collar to use with it they don't calibrate exactly. Was thinking if I could put a different battery cap on the mk1 collar, turning it to a 15ft, then change the dial sticker on the knocker box to a 15ft one. The mk3 would then be closer to correct depth on the dial. Or doesn't the 8ft and 15ft mk1's work that way? Any help appreciated before I spend money finding out.
  10. Got a couple of woodland buries and some hedges, all up on high ground, might give them a crack tommorrow if it's not raining to much. All the low lying fields round me are flooded.
  11. Think he's from Ireland, still legal there.
  12. Terrible news, anyhting else taken? or did they hit you just for your ferreting gear?
  13. It used to drive me mad when I started ferreting them doing this, it just takes a bit of practice. The tangling in the net too takes time, they do learn eventually, ( most anyway) what type of nets are you using? The thin 4z nylon ones will tangle constantly, if you are using heavier then they will catch on, if not then you will likely find yourself upgrading to heavier nets, or a longnet to circle the bury. Above all keep them at it, and as said if you can get an experienced ferret to help, or a dog that gives a certain mark will help you. Learning is all part of the fun for you and the f
  14. I have a ferreting book from the 70's that is nearly totally relevant today. There is a reference in that of someone who had a big hob ferret that loved tree rats, but they were ones that were lodging in peoples lofts, open hatch and let the hob go. Never heard of any others than that. Wouldn't know about ground squirrels, but our grey squirrel is a us import, and the ferrets will eat them happily enough. Squirrels give a nasty bite aswell, so would think more than twice before letting a ferret at one on purpose. Ferrets aren't natural climbers either so would think it nearly impossible for th
  15. Check your local/state bylaws, as I am pretty sure it's illegal to hunt with ferrets in the usa too. I'm under the impression too, that in some areas you can't even keep them as pets, or need licenses etc, due to some people in power thinking they are dangerous. Not everywhere but in some areas at least, but I could be wrong.
  16. I second that mate....great bloke to deal with and top quality gear Darryl Thanks very much, glad that you're happy with the nets.
  17. Thanks, FF. Done some nets up in Rayon twine, makes a very nice net. Easy to work with and won't tangle. 50kg breakstrain so would be equivalant to 10 or 12z nylon. Would say that it would be better treated like hemp though, just keep it dry after use. It's synthetic but has a very natural feel to it. Got it in my head to get some 6z in and start knocking up some 12yard stopnets, gatenets etc too.
  18. Maybe easier doing that if it's near the end and they're only short nets. Just a case of keep going at it, will get there eventually. Or end up with slightly shorter nets when you take the scissors to em. If it turns out you can't untangle without taking out the drawlines then you've nothing to lose by removing them.
  19. That's what I thought. Think it's good that the vets are using these methods over chemicals etc. Must get the name of this vet as they are said to be the best dog vet in the area. If anyone is in northern ireland this surgery is in coleraine, and is a husband and wife team, if nayone knows them maybe give us the name? Would it be a good idea to have a post at the top containing treatments like this? Things we can use at home, maybe handy to have a specific dog treatment reference page.
  20. I have 10 x 3ft 6" purse nets. For sale All nets are knitted to the rings at both ends, all nets are shaped, 10 meshes at the ring out to 18 in the middle. The rings are 1" stainless steel, 2mm braided nylon drawcord. The net material is something similar to butchers twine, (though i think it is actually nylon based) it is very strong, doesn't tangle and I have left a section out over the winter to test it's durability and all it did was turn green, all the knots still held and it hadn't rotted. £20 posted I have also a 5ft poke net of the same material, shaped and stitched to
  21. Our local vet has a bad reputation among dog owners, so one a bit further away is often reccomended. I was talking to someone the other day who was telling me a story, some one took her elderly dog to the better vets to have a big cyst removed, and was told to leave the wound open. The woman being a nurse wasn't so sure of this so took the dog to a different vet. This new vet is a husband and wife partnership that is given to be the best dog vets in the country. The wife of the vets had a look at the wound, bone deep hole and said I want to keep this dog in a day or two. The woman went bac
  22. Funny, what a bit of unneeded bleep machine can do to a song.
  23. Congrats, make the most of it, my wee girl turned two couple of weeks ago, feels like no time since we bought her home at that size. All the best
  24. Very decent, genuine bloke. Credit to the sit and hunting in general.
