  1. Good luck with youtube, i tried to post a video of my wee jrt bitch coming in and out of holes, but I couldnt get any of them posted. Wasn't hunting and they were just old rabbit warrens.
  2. does anyone have any trouble with ticks on their land? I cant see mto go out in summer with out the dogs coming home with at least one. Even had to pull one of my own leg, and i wear wellies and jeans to avoid em. They a big problem to me as i have a nipper starting to crawl and dont want to take any chances, have a house cat to so have to be careful what treatments to use. Anyone have any thoughts on the subject?
  3. My wee terrier is great with the ferrets, so gentle with them, even with young kits she will stand and let them crawl around, only lifting a paw if she gets one nip to many. She good with the cat too, indoors anyway haha Have seen her on occasion trying to follow the ferret down holes too. Likes her comfort a bit too much, last time out last season had an awkward dig in a blackthorn hedege, looked round and couldnt see dog. Found her curled up sleeping in the net bag haha
  4. Does anyone know of any working terrier, or lurcher clubs in northern ireland?
  5. i start at twelve then go to 20/21 then back to twelve. Also have got roles of twine that arent hemp but have very good properties. untangleable. Not sure what it is but its good stuff holds knots well. says on the label to twine it from a foodstuff manufacturer so guessing its maybe some sort of butcher twine, but its good, and only cost me a pound a roll, and 1 roll made a 15mtre longnet x 4ft drop (sets around 2 ft6 high) tried dying a purse net and the dye holds to two strands but not the third strand in it so dont know what material it is. any one have any ideas? sorry went off topic.
  6. dog looks good, I'll try and get pics of mine on and see if she looks like anything youve seen, i never got a look at the dam, which was the terrier, but she has a look of a kerry blue or wheaten to her, but i doubt it cos i never paid them prices for her haha Has a thing about birds tho, will chase swallows round field when they come down for feeding.
  7. Does anybody know if i can breed my barred wyandotte bantam cock to another colour wyandotte hen or any colour, to get sex linked colouring for seperating males at hatch? any help appreciated cant find any info on breeding wyandotte bantams anywhere.
  8. the wee dogs definately do job, especially if its hedgerow ferreting you do, most of mine is, and under blackthorns holly gorse ets, she can tear in and out no problem. Game enough to tackle bigger stuff to, and i find mine to be a good retriever to, the litter sister of my bitch is used for flushing and retrieving pheasants on a rough shoot. My bitch bit to hard mouth for that haha
  9. Thanks for settling my mind. Have never had any faith in the booster system but any time any of the dogs the family keeps takes ill the vet spouts parvo parvo parvo, whatever is at fault. Am a lot more confidant now to follow my own thought and just carry on without boosters, 3 of my dogs have had puppy jabs and boosters for last 3 years and lurcher not had any, they all live and cover the same ground, and are all in perfect health.
  10. Mine works more like a hound than terrier or spaniel, but is a great retriever she far to skitty for ferreting, gets bored quick. easy to train to. If i can put a pic on i will. Think she stands around 16" at shoulder to, but not a broad dog at all.
  11. Nice looking wee dog there. I wont go without mine, great second set of eyes when ferrets surface, I work alone so is invaluable. What size to shoulder is the dog in picture, looks small like mine. Mine only 10" to shoulder. and will enter a rabbit hole if mood takes her.
  12. nice looking dog. I put a pic up when i work out how. dog work all quarry no problem? Mine will get on terms and turn a rabbit, but won,t strike and catch it, she comin up to 3 in jan and this be her second season. Great in all other aspects, works the lamp of the lead and has started to mark and show promise for ferreting.
  13. Not even sure what my cross is, springer with lakeland i think, all black and like a sheep if coat not clipped. To big to go to ground tho, like a small skinny springer size. Good dog for lifting sitters in long grass tho.
  14. wots the bedlington like with the ferrets? like the look of em, but never see em round this way.
  15. does anybody work with this Bull wheaten lurchers? Mines dam was wheaten greyhound X bull greyhound
  16. has anyone any experinces with terrier spaniel crosses for bushing etc?
  17. Does anyone use terriers for ferreting? I know its a bit tame for them, but my small jrt is a great dog for it. Marks well helps keep track of ferrets below ground, will be at net when rabbit bolts and has indicated before if ferret kills below ground. Interested to here other peoples opinions. Want to get her working below ground but both of us inexperienced and dont want to take any risks haha
  18. Sorry to here the bad luck. I'm new to poultry with only a couple game hens, but a few others in the village keep em. I was standing at the front door last night and a fox went strolling up the road in front of me. Will be taking a stroll through woods in next few days to see if i spot the bugger, not taking any chances, wife to attached to hens to feed em to charlie.
