To the original poster, can I suggest that you remove your scope mounts and swop them around (if its possible to do). I had the same problem as you once - running out of windage and by swopping the mounts around, it cured the problem - at least its not going to cost you anything.

tiny amount + or - powder make alot of difference?
dicehorn replied to GEOFF.223's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Try loading a .17 cf ! A small amount of powder make a huge differnce did u watch the youtube link above ? Yup I did if it was Introduction to Reloading with Hornady - nice advert for Hornady, Ziess and Blaser - observations of the rest from a serious reloader perspective: It may not be neccesary to trim every time No serious reloader using a Kenetic hammer would remove bullets (especially soft nose bullets) without foam in the hammer so as to prevent damage to the bullet. Rather than a simple funnel to dispense powder into the case, far better to use a powder dropper to ge -
Ah but were your bullets Blitzkings??

Yes LD full length resizing every time will reduce the life span of your brass. For me and my 6.5 it is a trade off as it shoots better groups if full lengthed - that is why I anneal to delay the inevitable.

Dont know anything about PPU - only a few things I have read. Regarding case life, assuming you are reloading mid range powder weight and do not anneal and only perhaps full length say every 5 firings, there is no reason why you cannot expect at least 12 - 15 reloadings per case. Obvious signs that they are coming to the end of their usefulness is loose primers and a ring starting to develop on the outside of the case about 1 cm up from the head stamp - case separation. Also a split neck is the end of that case. As a matter of interest, some of my 20 Tac are on their 14th reload (Lapua

If you just want a very simple calculator without such things as atmosphere, LOS and taking into account the curvature of the earth use this and print it off - on my rifles they are pretty much there up to 400 yds http://www.biggameinfo.com/index.aspx?page=%2fbalcalc.ascx If you want something in App form (at a small cost) then Ballistic FTE is pretty comprehensive Other apps to consider are Bullet Drop, Ballistics or iStrelok

For that price you wish to spend, you wont go far wrong with one of the MTC Optics range. You get very good glass for your money. See: http://www.mtcoptics.co.uk/

If he can do that with his 'top reloading kit' then its definitely out of my price range

Paul - I think you are just going to have to accept Avon & Som only need 4 photos. A friend has also recently had both his certificates back and only sent 4 photos. When you think about - why do the Police actually need 8 photos ?
-
its a country standard mate not variable force to force, 4 with SGC and 4 with FAC application, conterminus means both at the same time Sorry Paul you are wrong with that statement - Avon and Somerset are just 4 photos for a coterminous application. Yes I know what a coterminous application is - I even know how to spell it says 4 for each on their website http://www.avonandso...rtificates.aspxhttp://www.avonandso...rtificates.aspx Hm... their web site is hardly ever up dated. This was sent out to firearm/shotgun owners just last month:- http://i438.photobuc...g/Scan20001.jp

You do not need 8 photos if you are in the Avon & Somerset area - but just 4. May be worth checking that Cambridge Police or not the same.

Thanks chaps - thats certainly something for me to consider on the list of what to try Peter

Just bought my son a Daystate Huntsman (expensive but looks good) Question for you guys - what pellets for them that use this model (non FAC) would you recommend using - it is basically for rabbits/rats at no more than about 25 - 30 yards. It is in .22 Thanks - Peter

I think you have to bear in mind that the type of optics on the scope is not always compatable with add-on night vision rigs - it has something to do with the lens coatings. I know (from personal experience) that the MTC range is very good and compatable - it just comes down to what calibre you are shooting - technically you dont need the top of the range of the MTC range like the 6-24 if it for use sub 50 yds. The MTC range is recommended for add on n/v by Starlight for their Archer range.

It is a common fact that chronographs can vary from one make to another. Also bear in mind we are talking muzzle velocity and not 12 - 15 feet away where the chronograph is sighted

OK I understand that, but you will have to bear in mind that if you are having the shotgun sent to your local RFD (TNT cost of collection around £25) will the seller agree to pay that sum? If the seller is an RFD and he sends it to your RFD the TNT cost will be around £16 - either way you will need to establish who is paying. Worst case scenerio - you dont like the gun and it will be sent back at another £16. If you add RFD transfer fee (£25-£30) collection/send by TNT (£16 or £25) and potential return (£16) leaves me with one question for you - what does your car do to the gallon??!!
-
The seller cannot send it direct to you - it has to go to an RFD, However there is nothing to stop you doing the transaction face to face. Both of you will have to do a Form 548B ( Transfer of Firearm/Shotgun) and the seller then has to complete the appropriate table on your shotgun certificate.

Could not see the the hole but saw your number - what makes you think that one hole in a target (even in the bull) ascertains the right ammunition? do it with 5 shots of the same make, then I will agree with you. -

Have you given the rifle a PROPER clean and by proper I dont mean a snake. There may well be a build up of carbon in the throat so bad that no matter what weight/make of bullet you put through, it is not going to perform. Also is the barrel still free floating? You should be able to run the thickness of 3 pieces of A4 from forend to muzzle easily. Of course it can be the reason the previous owner got rid of it - it is the down side of buying secondhand unless you know its history.
