  1. Nice birds there mate, and fairly priced too! If I had more space I would be tempted, as I used to keep modern game, and currently keep old English. Are yours kept inside?
  2. Im the same, wheat is the one for pheasants. They just dont like barley, probably the tougher husk. Ducks love barley, its what ive always used, and I also used to get sacks of windfall apples from an orchard, which they ate aswell (but only as an extra bonus for them on top of the barley). But if cash is tight, then free, waste fruit or veg is a good help.
  3. I presume that there were more moles responsible for the damage, but their not there no more, as ive found that the old tunnels are now becoming overgrown with grass roots. Was a strange one for me, which is why I put up the topic, as I was fully expecting to pick up over half a dozen from the paddock. well whatever happened to them, I dont know, but it saved me the job and I still got paid!! Cheers all
  4. Later on in the season I get to carry my gun in the line, to help bulk bags, and to avoid leaving too many on the hill. Oh joy!
  5. Good shooting mate!! and a nice thread.
  6. I would say put him to the type of bitch that most suits your type of hunting, as long as the bitch is a good worker in your eyes. If that poodle cross is that type of worker, theres no reason that the cross wouldnt produce workers. But as you know, poodles havent been working dogs for fecking milenia! so theres the real chance of throwing duffers too. As for showing and judges opinions, I couldnt give a shit

  8. Move the traps around a bit more D-n-N,... Maybe rest the field for a few days, then go in 'armed and dangerous' As trappa so rightly says,.there WILL be more moles All the best,..CHALKWARREN... Thats the wierd thing.... the field is now bare Its been a few weeks since harrowing now and theres nowt fresh I will just keep an eye on it and let you know if more appear. Cheers all for the help

  10. Another belter you got there Lucky, hope he does you proud mate.
  11. Panacur is good, probably the best, but remember to use the stronger solution stuff, as this is a more effective broad spectrum wormer which will sort any lung/liver/heart worms aswell. Another decent make is- milbemax
  12. Right, I recently had a call to clear the moles out of a paddock of about 2 acres-ish. The place was black with mole hills! Hundreds of them covering alot of the area....... anyway, when im trapping a place with so many workings, I always aim for the fresher looking hills. But on checking my traps the next day, I only found one mole!! I moved some of the traps a wee bit, but the next day there was no more luck Since then the land has been harrowed and no more hills have appeared, which makes me think that this one mole has caused all that damage. So, exactly how much damage can one m

  15. hes a sealyhamish looking russell but hes about 12 now people who see him say hes an old time sealyham russell i dont no about hes breeding but i do no that hes been a belting working terrier hes not the smartest looking dog but he can work Alot of the sealyhams seen about seem to bare more resemblance to the russel or lucas types. I know of some real sealyhams in the norh east, there breeding programs are very well thought out , and as your dogs breeding isnt known, and he is too old to be given a fair working trial, im affraid i cant help you. All the bestthe dog is 12 now and hell d
  16. My first days beating of the season, was a good day, shot about 200 brace. Weather was really bad, and even my deerhunter struggled to keep the water out. Some of the poor lads looked like they were suffering from hyperthermia. My cocker Boozer did me proud, and found a few birds that had been missed by other dogs, he also picked up a huge hare off its seat which was released unharmed. Was canny tired as i drove away, but with 50 mole traps to check, the day was far from over! Now im chillin' ont comp like... good hunting all!! DnN

  19. SPOKE TOO FECKIN SOON DIDNT I !!!!! Had 3 traps nicked by foxes last night And a fourth was found with the mole still in! Not that supprised however, theres a stack of foxes on this farm, and they will soon have too start keeping their heads down aswell!!!
  20. Good bit of wind is best, and with a steady direction. Nowt else matters much, but obviously different weathers may well mean that the deer are doing different things. Results can be had on ANY day!
