  1. My take on the metal vs. wood thang is this. .

If you can trust your dog(s) not to chew (or you can adequately protect it) then wood should be warmer. It looks nicer than metal but will require regular maintenance.

The metal panels are galvanised so require little maintenance, they are sectional so relatively simple to take down, dogs can't chew them.

All down to personal preference . . . . I can't trust myself to do the maintenance thing (and mine was originally put up for American Bulldogs) so chose metal.

Same here, my young dog [ 13months old] still chew's , so he as B.B kennel and a galvanised metal run. If i had bought, or made a wooden one he would wreak the fecker :( and a bought one can cost up to 800£quid :o so metal it is ;)

  2. If lurchers and Longdogs were used on fox Pre ban then do you think this made them hard mouthed on other quarry (rabbit and hare) e.g. ? I'v been told this is the case and just wanted some opinions. Thanks, Sambo

Not really, its down to each dog.? I have had dogs, that would kill foxes, and be soft mouth with rabbits. Some dogs can get hard mouth, if they do alot of hares. They will kill the hare to stop it struggle, and it can make them hard on rabbits. As i said it comes down to each dog ;)

  3. Regards Beardie collies, dont know any working dogs, but plenty of good working border'collies.

As you say if its a Beardie x grey you want, then you know where to go. I would not go there myself,

my 1x collie grey was bred from a good hard farm border collie to a 1000yds grey bitch. My mate

bred him, he is had 40 rabbits so far not bad for a 13month old pup. :victory: As i said plenty of

good working borders, but not beardie's :wallbash:

  5. Good stuff Bird :good:

Some dogs just plain don't take to retrieving but as long as they catch and don't feck off down the field with 'em... good sport can always be had. ;)

Yes Mate, your right , the main thing he is catching very well. And he will carry back a little bit, but sometimes you carnt have everthing. ;)

  6. Went out last night with craig, bryn and joe done really well. We got 20 rabbits from 30 runs, bryns 13 months old and hes strike is brilliant for a young pup, and joe who is 7 is spot on. Both 1/2 x collie greyhounds. If the weathers good tonight see if we can knock a few more over. Bryns still not keen on retrieving but catching well. The end of the day he fills a good bag.
