Put it in the house when you go out, ive had this prob when you have two dogs. I like to run one
dog on its own, and once they both know what lamping is, they will feckin sing if you leave one
behind. . Its better to have it in the house, than feckin yaping at 2am when you get

If a dog is not up to scratch then its PTS time I am afraid..........It not fair on the dog because you will quickly fall out of love with it, Its not fair on the owner because its soul destroying and it puts an end to the chance of more shite being bred.
That said, I have rehomed a dog before...........but I made sure it was the right home and the dog went free of charge.
I wouldnt do it again.
that said it all really,

obvious x's will alla have there faults.
but i think it depends on the dog itself.

A fair post, and alot are dogs are under 12months old , ok you do get some that will never make it, but it will take most , two seasons to know the crack.??? you will know by then, at least you have have give it a fair chance. With breeding, you have to go with proven stuff , and you might get
a good pup for your self.

Looks a good guard, but if they want to get in a dog wont stop them. A dog is only good for [opportunist] thief. The pro's would shoot or poison it still it would make joe public think twice

Just read the bit were you say you'd backed down from the dog because it growled at you....that should be it no question you cant have a situation were the dog thinks it's the gaffer. Take it to the vet or get someone to do it for you.
Spot on. always be top dog, even from 10 weeks old a pup should no its place with a older dog [ a new dog] it still as to know its place, you can mold a pup to what you want, a mature dog is harder job.

Regards yapping and scaring rabbits off, not all rabbits will run off. I had a no ped whippet years ago, i took her one night on the lamp. In this field there were about 14 rabbits, slipped her on one about 30yds out , she ran it and yapped from start to finish. I thought well thats fecked it, got her back put the lamp back on, and Feck me the was still 10 rabbits there . She got 4 , not bad for her 1 night, every think not black+white ?

Remember this , that all retrieve training is very good for any pup, but when you switch over to a live rabbit, all that training can go out of the window Ive had dogs that would retrieve dummy's anything all day long, but once on the real thing some would bring back, and some would NOT So keep at it , and dont forget you carnt make them retrieve, its not natural like a gundog

A friend's dog ran off recently and returned very ripped up. She took it to the vet for treatment and the vet said they'd had a call from the police. A farmer had reported a dog in his sheep at the time when this dog had run off. The description sounds like her dog so it's probably him,. The vet passed her contact details on and last night the police got her out of bed at nearly midnight to interview her about it.
A few sheep had been bitten and the farmer had given them antibiotic jabs but not needed to take them to the vet. She has offered to pay compensation, vowed to keep the dog muzzled and on lead and is already consulting a behaviourist specialising in lurchers about this dog anyway as she inherited him from someone else and he's got a few issues. The farmer, however, is insisting on taking action, although the police are trying to persuade him to settle out of court.
She's a sensible, responsible country woman with stock of her own (horses) in the area and who had let the dog off after several weeks of work with him in what looked like a safe park, but he'd run right up out of the valley, through the woods and across a road to find sheep.
The question is: If it does go to court, what are the likely consequences? Could they order her to have the dog put down?
Thanks for your help.
Dont know anything about the legal side but at least she is acknowledging the problem & doing something about it, i dont think anyone can say 100% that there dog wont ever chase or attact stock even if previously they were seemingly broken to stock
I do hope the farmer will accept her compensation rather than it go through court, it seems like a lot of hassall when an offers already been made
Spot on regards stock, even some sheep dogs can turn and they are with sheep 24/7. I had
lurcher colliex grey in 82, he was broke to stock from 10 weeks as soon as he had is jabs. He would
never even look at a sheep, he was 6years old and worked hard on all game [ rabbits, hare, foxes, deer] One day out with him in jan morning, a hare got up and he chased it from the field to a
wood. He went in the wood, while he was in the wood , a feckin deer came flying out . I thought pity he didnt see that fecker when he was coming back to me he had to past a field with sheep in it,
some of the sheep scattered. He ran one to the corner of the edge, i shouted and ran after him,
he didnt touch it, he just got it traped in the corner. I got him and wacked him with my stick and
picked him up by is neck and really shouted at the fecker Why he had done it, maybe the scent
of the deer i dont know, but he never looked at a sheep for 6 years . He never bother'd with
sheep again, but as you say can really trust them 100%. ??, and at the End of the Day all live
stock end up on you dinner plate.

Chin up mate, hope you can pull through it.

Half and half for me. all mine are first cross and aslong as you breed them right they will be game enough for whatever you want them for. My bull x's are big but racey, like a greyhound with a big head! Its just down to personal opinion and i think you cant generalise in the ability of a dog based on its breed, its the breeding that matters - dam sire grand parents and so on. Also the way its treated/trained and fed makes a difference, you could have the best lines with the most potential and still mess the dog up if you dont know what your doing
Wouldnt you have a greater chance of producing a type you want by breeding together your best 1st cross dogs together (GENERATION BREEDING) They would still be half and half bull cross, but a generation down the line. Chances are more pups in the litter would make the grade?
Spot on, with 1x G.B you would know how good they as workers, and less litter wastage.
With any 1x its a chance, with a 1x G.B the odds more in your favor.

I have watched the big cat series on BBC1, and main thing about it is what the cats eat and when
they eat to survive. Now a big cat would not just kill rabbits , it would need larger game, so you would
say it would go for deer. Well from watching the progamme, the kills on large game were from 3 from 10 on average.? Now with all the livestock [ sheep+cattle] out there, you would think they go
for easy kills.?? Yet you never here farmers , say they loose regualarly stock from big cats, and
a cat kill is differnt from a dog or wolf kill, always a neck hold+ sufocation. If they were out there
the farmers should show us the evidence of there survival.??

always only have one in each kennel and have always done it like that.
Same here, every thing needs a bit of breathing space.??

Thanks fellas, hope you enjoy seeing the pics almost as much as we had making them.
dan-I wouldnt feed a dog that couldnt/wouldnt smash a fox single handed.
ferret-Only one of the dogs in those pics carries any bull blood. The good stags are plenty tough, they dont need any bull blood, and thats saying something cause Im a bulldog man thru and thru!
artic-The space under the big box is where the terrier rides. The doors on the big box are opened from inside the vehicle, when the dogs spot a coyote in the open ground. The dogs then try to run it down and we follow in the vehicle if we can. I also do some calling with a couple dogs on occassion in the country too rough or thick to use the vehicles.
Take care.
Great pics and a good post . Pity you carnt get them stag [lines] over here, they would tackle anything, top dogs

i know someone local who has a alsation with a really good hip point score. i'll proboly know once u tell me but whats MAL a abbreviation for? cheers Jakk
Its a [ Belgian Malinois] they are like a Alastion, but smaller+lighter = 24-26ins - 55-70 lb
very hard dog, with imense prey drive , and used by the police in th UK.
-
If you use a G.S.D in a lurcher x, i would make sure they have good hip score for [ H.D]
i think MAL, would be a better , more agile and better hips.??? down side a MAL can be a bit sharp,?

everyone is talking about lamping.but what about daytime mooching etc? i've never had a dog that was mainly white but my mate has one and its always the first dog that you spot. .as i said in my first post, its not the quarry that you should worry about seeing you!
Spot on, white dog no prob in the lamp, daytime if its hot ground , they do stand out a bit.
But a good dog, is a good dog, it dont matter the colour. but with this feckin ban, i would go
for a darker colour.??

Ive had dogs from 22ins- 27ins,ive got one 24ins now and he does seem very agile, so i would say
24ins would do any job you want
