lucky that 1st shot came out mate, bit of a shine on the ol head there. 7 out of 10 for a pup his age, spot on, whats he like daytime in the cover,my ol half x is in there like a springer, bolting and pinning them,Had 77 rabbits, 3 big rabbits on the lamp now. Not bad for a 15month old 1st x collie grey dog. Had a couple of nights when he struggled catching Went out last night got 7 from 10 runs i think he is getting back on track. The last catch of the night was (class_ he ran the rabbit to the edge, the rabbit ran straight through the edge to the next field (out of the beam) he caught it, jumped the ditch and retrieved it straight back to me from two fields away (class). Here you go nick, few pics, yes one is missing he had it for his dinner last night. Well done Bryn
The wife said put your hat on , Bryn his great in the day, he will goin any cover he thinks he is a feckin Springer

dogs turning out to be a cracking example of a 1st x collie greyhound mate, all them on his 1st ever season, man couldnt ask for more, recon his going to be a 1st class dog when his fully grown, certianly be thinking of useing him for a bitch if i was up your way to breed some genuin 3/4 xs out of a real worker, looking forward to seeing how he comes on next season once his fully grown, one strong stright dog you have there mate, keep up the good work,
Thanks Mate, yes he as done really for his 1season [77] so far, not bad for a young dog. He is a good pace for a 1x collie grey, and his size 24ins 60lb he should be ok next season for any thing . Yes maybe couple season's time , you could get some 3/4 xs from nice grey bitch to him. He definitely doing well at the moment

FECKIN SHARKS , its if you were attacked on land, by man or beast you could fight back , with feet+fists or pick some thing up. But in the water, a shark can hit from any Angle, and you carnt see it most of the time. I am not a bad swimmer, went south Italy last year, went in the sea with the wife a couple of times, went out about 1/2 mile, but never really felt relaxed

Lamping with lurchers, and having good old mooch in the day with the dog or dogs.
-
Well don Ian , kinda says it all
feckin right

-
if you fed your dogs tripe at 4pm would you run them at 12?
I would not, if you go lamping, feed them when you get back..?? Only feed a very small amount in the morning.
-
Bad luck Mate, its a hard life for a feckin lurcher, what ever the x.
-
austraian cattle dog first cross. if you can find one got everything a collie cross has plus a bit more.
collie x wont let you down !
Yes 1x collie grey, if you can get a good un

A good thread for colliexs , where ever you get them from.? With any lurcher you start 1x, its where you get your collie and your greyhound from. And do line bred 1 xcollie greys really have more stamina than a straight x collie grey.?? When you think about it, with any line bred you have greyhound both sides to the pup. Now we all know greyhounds lack stamina+ agilty, compare to a collie thats why you put collie in the first place. The only running dog that can give S+A is a Saluki, andthis post is about [only] colliexgreys and where you get them from.?? My young dog was bred from a 26in 1000yds grey bitch, to 22in working border collie on a farm by a mate. Bryn my dog so far as had 69 rabbits, 3 hares, 2 birds, from 16 nights lamping , not to bad for a 15month old dog. I know there are dogs alot better than him out there, with better stamina+agilty. With any 1x its a gamble if it turns right[ to much collie or to much grey], the same as with line bred.?? Buying lurchers , where ever you get them it comes down to [ LUCK] to drop on a good one.?????
-
DAY , alot of hares can get very confused in the lamp, they are hard to catch day or night, but they are alot harder in the day ive seen dogs that have been bred for daytime stuff, and they struggle in the day as well.

strongstuff all the way mate
Spot on, the slip leads are feckin GREAT,
-
Shit thread
so why comment, just dont read it
To lads asked about them, one from the USA, so he was told from my and other people experience
of this type of lurcher.

Ive got a 1x collie grey [ no hancock] and he is ok, he 24ins 60lb. The prob with colliexs is its what
grey and collie you use to start your lurcher x? My dog was bred form 26in grey 60lb 1000yds bitch
to a working 22in border collie, that works cattle+sheep on a farm by a mate of mine. With any
colliex you can get CRAP Temp, it dont matter Who bred it. The reason i dont like hancock's dogs,
i think they come up to BIG, my mate had two a 3/4 grey 1/4 collie=27ins and a 3/8collie 5/8 grey26 1/2 ins both heavy dogs. To me a 24in dog will catch any game in the U.K, lets face it [ rabbits, hares,
deer, foxes, all can it 30-40 mph, and you need a agile dog, before you say ive got a dog 26-27in
that can catch anything, yes ive had them as well, but a 24in dog will do it that Bit Better. Alot of
peole like line bred colliexgrey, but you have to start with your 1x, and thats why i would not use a hancock dog [ to big and the studs dont work.???]. Ive had lurchers 25 years, and found out Speed
yes, strenght yes, Agilty is a must, with out it you wont catch feck all and you get it more
from a smaller dog.??

Whatever is happening with Greyhound Racing, we Lurcher guys had better hope it keeps going !! Now that coursing is banned, there is only the racers who are keeping the greyhound breed going !! God forbid we eventualy have to go to show Greyhounds for our lines !!
Cheers.
well dont see the difference between a track grey and a show grey to be honest...its not like these greys chase live quarry do they?
think if our coursing greys were banned then we would be in a bit of trouble as surley these are the types that we should be breeding to our lurchers?
as in now even though there are muzzled are chasing live quarry but most important there lines have been bred this way and iv seen plenty of track and coursing greys with the coursing grey being shorter but broader on than back with stronger musclear features especially on the hind legs with also a broader chest....surely these type of greys are better suited to be crossed with our lurcher?
I disagree most irish coursing dogs are bred for park coursing, a sprint up a field in a strait line of maybe 300m they are to big ie 90-100 pounds in weight to use for lurcher breeding, imo a 72-76 pound stayer or marathon dog-bitch greyhound would be better utalised in lurcher breeding , yes better still if the said dog or bitch was tested on live quarry in the field, befor the ban open coursing dogs were a better propesition ie much smaller and agile where points were gave for the course ie agility , turning ect. Nowdays park coursing is only about pace nothing else . Years ago your coursing dogs ie Fullerton, Master Magrath, Green tic, ect would have only weight around the 50-54 lb mark much better COURSING prospects imo.
Spot on , Agilty is name of the game, and you dont get it from big Dogs , for lurcher work
you need speed, but without Agilty you wont catch feck all
-
Colliex grey, they are good at most game, if you can get a good un, they will tackle anything.
-
In a word NO.
If your dogs are under control on a public footpath he has no rights.
I would have thought that he should,nt have a gun unsleeved on a public right of way, call local plod if he directly threatens you.
SPOT ON, if he say's it again, And your dog is on the LEAD ?, TAPE what he say's on your phone and take it to the police. Then see what they say, then you will know where you really stand. I think with all the probs with guns, the police would not let him DO IT
got a problem guys can u help?????
