  1. I know they are banned breeds so this one might not be mine :whistling: And she might have just had a liiter 2 weeks ago. Put your pics up boys I know these are popular.
I dont think anyone would say that that blue dog is a pitbull terrier. It may look like it has some bull in its makeup but then im sure when you bought it you bought as a mongrel Greyhound. Surely its pitbull that are illegal not mongrels that have simularities.

Its not what they look like, even a 1/4 is a strong gene, its what it puts in the dog tha counts.??

LOOKS dont catch+kill. [1/4,3/8,1/2,] its what you want the dog for that counts. :victory:

You completly missed the point. He was talking about pitbulls being banned and I was saying that he has no worry on that score for the reasons I pointed out.Try reading it again slowly or get someone to explain it to you.Maybe then you could make some useful comment........I wont hold my breath.

Not really mate, its all feckin Bull shit anyway, i pointed out what they had to a offer to a lurcher[useful comment] We all know they banned since 92, and thats a [useful comment] Bollocks.

  2. There is always going to be more bad than good like in most breeding these day some people just breed off shit for the fun of it.

But do really think bullx's are only any good on fox's? one trick pony as you say.

What do you think of there capability on deer? pre ban of course :whistling:

Just wondering as I have never owned one and am contimplating on getting one at the minute.

    Regards Ben

they are capable of taking deer, rabbits, hares even.... but theres plenty of other dogs out there that are better suited and probably a lot more capable when running these....

bull crosses were originally bred to put a bit of fire and power into a lurcher, but its no good having the power without the fire.... ;)

Spot on, i had 3/8 collie 5/8 grey dog 26ins 70lb in the 80s. He would tackle any Game , and if he got a nip, he would go feckin Crazy :wallbash: what ever you put him on a 90% chance he would catch it. Not a hare dog, but still had a few . I LIKE bullxs had two, but if you drop on a good colliex they take some beating. :victory:

  4. Thanks all, glad you enjoyed the story of our little clusterfuck... :icon_redface:

dogmandango-I did spend some time looking, but there is ALOT of ground they could have been in, so when I didnt find the source of the blood, I just loaded up.

Joe Kelly-When I am hunting with adult stags I never have a gun with me. I was hunting an expierienced lurcher bitch, an 8 mo old lurcher pup, and a yearling stag gyp that is new to the calling game (I have had her less than a month) It was a perfect chance to introduce the pup and gyp to the game, gunfire, and the whole calling routine.

Kye-Blister would sure give me the speed I needed. Im working on that problem... ;) I may have found a stud here that will work. A very intense kill dog, from a line of very fast dogs. He is VERY green, but I saw him on the second coyote he had ever seen, and he piled it up and went to work like a pro. Hope to see you out this way someday.

allgame-I hope I get a call every time out from now on...I got a call later that night also, and about 5 minutes later we had a race and caught another...LOL

    Take care.

A good read that, are the stags just line bred deerhoundxgreyhound's or is there anything else

them, and what size [height+weight] do they make.??? .They sound like great hunting dog's :victory:

  5. Here are some more with her old sparring partner Meg. This wee black bitch was only 23" but could mix it with any quarry.....the 2nd last one was a charlie she chased and caught and retreived across a burn...Meg was one of our own line and is the dam of keano's old dog Gripper, the last one shows the sire of our original line (Big black dog) the brindle is the brother of old meg. Shame they got to passs on

Well done, if you get a good colliex they take some beating big or small. ;);):clapper:

  7. collie crosses are not the best dog for a first time lurcher owner mate ... they need a certain way of bringing on to get the best out of them otherwise you will end up with a hyper active neurotic dog that will test your patience on a daily basis .........

Spot on :victory: , ive had colliex's, bullx's, bitza', whippet [no ped]. A nice whippetx bull or whippetxgrey, would make a good 1st dog. Not to temp , and easy to live with, and very keen, plus good rabbit dogs. Ive got a 1x collie grey, 24ins 58 lb, a strong+hot head .They can be very TRYING Dog, as Socks say's they will feckin test you. :wallbash:

  8. english and staffs are not in the same league as their american cousin .saying that , there are still a few decent staffs about if you know where to look. just because its an american doesn't say its good as there are still rubbish in them . its all down to percentages and the americans are well ahead of the rest

Spot on, and how many are really game bred.?, you can have 10 pups in a litter, you might get 2 good un's out of it.?? . They are a great breed, but as above there is still rubbish in them as well.??

  9. what type of lurchers or breed??

A long time before Plummer (or anyone else!) started writing books on the 'virtues' of all an sundry crosses, there where Lurchers kept of unknown ancestry and breeding.....

Worker to worker, with no definate 'type'..... ;)

maybe so but collie and grey have always featured whether it be the old smithfield collie or the present border/beardie x....Poachers of old knew the virtues of such a x....and didn't kill for killings sake.

I don't doubt that, Undisputed, collie has always had a part to play (and usually a big part at that!) but for me, traditionalist or not, and being old enough to look back, those old, 'all an sundry types' did the job, and did it well............. I do belive these days, we get far to hung up on what 'composits a lurcher in breakdown' rather than how dogs actually perform under real conditions....???

agree with you totally there mate....I have always had collie x's some with whippet and grey blood and have moved on to 3/4 grey x's I like this x and find it the most versatile for what I do...I think a lot of todays youngsters get hung up on numbers especially on red and thats how the value their dogs by the amount of red they kill and discard them if they dont meet these standards which is not what these dogs are really about..imo

Yep, it's about what 'works' for you, your game, not whats in a dogs make up and more of how it performs.

Though, I'll admit, I've always chased the numbers whenever I had opportunity BUT for me, it's always been about versitility, rarley directed on one quarry.

Bred and worked right, a good lurcher should be a jack of all trades AND a master of one...imo?

Spot on, [1] colliexs= 1x , 3/8,. [2] pit bull bitch, ive had both, and very loyal+loving dogs.

In the right hands , both make great +honest workers. :victory:
