Bryn 11 months old is 24ins 58lb, a little update on him. Daytime so far hes had
3 mixy rabbits 1 pheasant. Night time, 1st night on the lamp, 1st run in the lamp caught
and retrieved straight back. Fecking brilliant over the moon with him. Gonna make a
great rabbiting dog, with his size and strength and a fair pace. Should be able to tackle anything.
I think he has bags of potential. Heres some pics

collie cross will do all you want.
Spot on, get a good 1x or 3/8 collie 5/8 grey male, will do rabbits +deer, and smash foxes , and take
a few hares. If you can get a good one , you wont beat them.

when i used to do it i had no worrys at all running mine paired up on foxs, no matter what any one says you will get a higher catch rate, and yes before you all start it was more to do with pest control for me, dont get me wrong i enjoyed the sport side, but having a choice of 9 out of 10 paired up compared to 5 out of 10 single handed, id go for the former every time... at the end of the day i got ground to control a pest, if i didnt they would just get the rifle men in... jmo...
Fair point, as i only keep one dog, it will have to do every thing on its own.

Bad luck mate, hope you have more luck with your new pup.

If not a shock collar try tying a good length of rope to its collar and when it pulls yank it back like with recall training, but my friend had to retire his dog as it wouldn't leave the sheep alone
Yes the rope, say 15feet rope, then get close if it makes a move lift the fecker right of its feet,
with LEAVE. It does work, you have got to do it every day and night. From a 40lb to a 80lb dog
get your timing right, and you will lift it right of its feet

Nice dogs, that little bitch looks a handy type of dog.

not true mate i take it the small lurcher you are talking about is a greyhound x and not a whippet x the greyhound has less stamina than the whippet as for the whippet not haveing stamina my ones will maybe run 50 runs in one night so i think that is un true
robert
Are they ped or no ped whippets, i had a no ped bitch 19ins 20lb, and she was ok for 30 odd run's
in the lamp. She was racing whippet from cannock [west midlands]. Some of the dogs[ males]
were 21ins 34lb, and would tackle anything. With dogs like these you dont need small lurchers,
the only thing they lack were a thicker coat, that you might get from a whippet x

Villebones: please listen to everyone on here: we took pity on a 5 month old Hancock pup he had there after we were daft enough to drop by. That pup had never been out of the pen it had been reared in: it took the poor thing 2 weeks before it learned that it was allowed to walk across the threshold of the run we had it in when we got it home: it was terrified of everything and anything.
Months down the line, and the dog would now be about 14 months old and he was still as phobic about anything new, virtually p*ssiing himself at each new situation. There is no happy ending to this story as we eventually decided that it was kindest to have the dog put down: he was only OK at home.
Yes, some pups are so naturally sound and bombproof that they can overcome the worst type or rearing and lack of socialisation, but the majority do not.
If you really want a Hancock dog then you need to get it away from his place by 8 weeks old at the VERY LATEST: then you can give it the vital socialisation it needs. Even better, buy one from someone on here who has bred for themselves and reared them with the kids and running about in the back garden. Probably won't cost you anywhere near as much either.
There are a couple of cracking looking litters on here at the moment: why not get in touch by pm and have a chat with the breeders?
Good luck.

At 12months old, maybe another 1" but thats about it, if its a deerhound type lurcher, they can
keep growing up to 16 to 18 months old, small type lurcher about 10 months old.

Ive had both, i seem to get on better with dogs than bitches

22£quid, once a year= jab + don worm tabs 2 = 42£quid = 81pence a week
which is feck all two dogs= 1£ 62pence it ant even a price of a pint beer
ok if you have 5 or 6 dogs, it can get expensive. but if you have 1 or 2 dogs its
nothing , 1£ 62 pence a week.????
BIRD

All good advice, but when they do catch there first rabbit or 6 rabbits, alot of retrieving training
can go out of the window . Most pups get there in the end, just give it time.

A well bred 3/8 collie 5/8 grey , i had one 26ins 70lb he would tackle anything. Not a hare dog,
but still had a few. If you get a good one, a real good alrounder

I had a Agro last week, walking my 1x collie grey pup [ 11 months old] . I was on a public path
by this farm, when a big feckin lab came out and went right for my pup. My pup was on the lead
all the time, i always carry a strong stick [ broom ]. When it came to grab the pup, i just fend it off
by ramming it in the neck and shoulder . This twat came out and said, hit my dog with
that again and i will break it on your head. I said just get your FECKIN DOG OFF ,
Now you got two things here, [1] start fighting with this wanker, and is dog would still be loose to
get my pup, and thats the last thing that i wanted [2] Walk away which i did, and my
pup didnt get hurt. When he got is dog, he said if i see you or dogs like that again i will
do you and that feckin thing. I said iam on a public foot path, and you can FECK OFF .
i hate wankers , so i would say carry a good stink with you next time.
