Cheers for the input Coney - appreciated bud. Regards, Grim.

I would enocourage you to balance the stock to the rifle mate - it is easily done, and will benefit to you in the long run. How you balance the stock to the rifle is a simple enough process really - not nearly (by half) as difficult as it sounds at all. You will read this and think "what a rediculous length of process to go through" but i can assure you, if you do things right, do a bit of preparation, and have everything to hand, the final doing of the whole thing should take no longer than say, half hours time (of which you will only actually work for about 20 mins of that). The only thi

Hi Ian, I am sorry if what I'm about to say is deemed as bad, but I am not at all sorry for the saying of it though! With reference to the bold and underlined above - why don't you just simply BAN THE F**K-WITS mate - once and for all, and then this site will come back to what it was - a site that everyone can benefit from, and everyone can be of a help and benefit to everyone else! I for one have made many friends here in THL, and have received help, as well as (hoping) to have given it to others too. For that, I am gratefull and wish to express my thanks for providing s

Liam, my old mucker, With what you will be receiving very soon , as well as hitting a 5 pence piece, you will also be able to cut a hair off a gnat's knacker at 25 yards!! lol All the best bud, Grim.

Deker mate, i can fully appreciate what you are trying your damndest to say pal - "don't panick mr Mainwaring!! " lol Yes, you are correct, i am trying to find out the nest colour filter (if any) to use when going 'on the rampage' at night, so to speak. Thanks again for your trouble though! All the best, Grim.

Ian mate, have a look at my reply here. I think it will give you something in the way of help as well. Cheers, Grim.

No Deker, it isn't only your opinion bud, it's mine too - I agree with you there! Ian mate, for the sake of example, lets assume you go for what is (at the point of shot release) a perfect head shot, but the bunny moves just a whisker after the shot leaves the barrel. You end up wounding it, and then need a quick follow up shot as a coupe de grace . . . . . if you have a multi shot pcp - then no problems here. But, on the other hand, if you have a single shot pcp, then you have to re-lood manually and so the unfortunate animal is suffering where not necessarilly needed, like?

At the ranges of which you speak of, shots inside a 10pence piece are, i think, the suitable target area/shot groupings to strive for. Shots inside a 50 pence piece area would be ok for the closer type of target work - close range ratting etc, but would be, IMHO, a tad large for 30 yards+? The 10 pence piece standard is one i have set myself, and i feel it is a sensible target area for the 30+ yard mark. Regards, Grim.

Lads, Thanks for the replies in so far - much appreciated. Of course, i realise do that all animals can perceive most (if not all) colours of light, but i also do realise that there are certain colours that each species would seem to either have a difficulty seeing so well, or they do recognise the colour (but not necessarily in the same manner as other colours) hence the reasoning for my query. My OP has been suitably edited to reflect this point. Thanks again for the anwers so far - please keep them coming if you have experience in this particular field (no matter how little yo

Hi Young London Hunter, So long as you don't shoot beyond both your own, and the rifle's capabilities, you will find that it will be a valid hunting tool, even if it is running a bit underpower - i beleive you only require 4 - 5 ft/ilb to make a kill on a rabbit? If i am wrong on this mark, someone will point out the error of my ways - but that is what i understand it to be. If you can consistantly group your shots inside the area of a ten pence piece, then what ever is the maximum distance you can do this will be the effective range of your air rifle. Put this together with your own

Hi all, I am doing a spot of research into the visual accuity of rabbits, with my particular interest being in the perception of light colour - ie what type of light can they NOT see so well too well / at all? ( or at least, what colour seems not to spook or bother them) I have done numerous (and so far) unfruitful gooles on it, almost as many Lycos searches and have come up with nothing much of any use to me so far. This is why I am posting my query in here, in the hope i can get some serious answers from you guys/gals - those who lamp and shoot at night for rabbits, you see?

Yes it would mate, because you can either set the objective lens up at a certain yardage/meterage, and shoot only when the target is pin-sharp and clear. Or you can look at the target, and focus the objective cowl until it is sharp and have a look at what the numbers on the cowl of the objective lens are telling you in respect of the distance involved. Either way, a scope with an Adjustable Objective is classed as a rangefinding scope. Regards, Grim.

How to zero a scope
Grim Reaper replied to Grim Reaper's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
EdJay and others, I have done a scope information document as requested - you can find it here. I hope this helps you some? Regards, Grim. -
Rifle telescopes Explained Rifle telescopes (‘scopes’ hereafter) can be very daunting and confusing things on the whole -, particularly if being looked at for the first time. Hopefully, this document will go some way towards cutting down on some (or doing away with it altogether) of the confusion that tends to confront us. Telescopes are, essentially, a tube containing several lenses (sometimes as many as eight) some set together, and some set apart from each other within the same scope. In amongst them somewhere, is a thing called a ‘cross-hair’ or ‘reticule’ – this is

Hi guys, With regards to the 'scope shake' mentioned early on in this thread - the shake is always there, belive it or not!? lol The shake is always to the same degree, but its just that at low mag power, its not so readily noticable. The higher you have the mag power set, then the more noticable the shake becomes to your eye? Obviously, the higher mag simply amplifies the already (but barely noticable) shake that is there right from the beginning. This is something i noticed some years ago myself, funnily enough? Scope magnification power is a personal preference really -

How to zero a scope
Grim Reaper replied to Grim Reaper's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Edjay, this is a good idea, and one i have been pondering on for a while too, as it goes - i will do my best to try and put something together and will post it up when i have finished doing it. All the best, Grim. -
Thank you for posting of your outcome with the perm. forms - I am so pleased they have worked well for you mate. This proves that they are having the effect which I intended them for - good going It is an unfortunate fact of our lives that when we apply for something, we will get knock backs - but please don't let them put you off your search for shooting land, and permission for that land bud. It IS worth the trouble to persue . All the best, Grim.

Do you guys not know that the chipboard trees are an endangered species!? Especially the ones that grow the Oak pattern surface coating on them - very bad news is this!! I think Al should be reported to the authorities immediately, and with no pity whatsoever - totally dispicable actions - i can only hope that it was a clean first shot kill!! But seriously Al, nice little experiment there Regards, Grim.

I too second your comments and concerns Rob. Greg, you will find there is plenty of help for you within the air rifle forum itself, as well as other forums in THL. Please take the time to look at the pinned/important topics at the head of each forum, use them, read them, and take good notice of them and the advice they offer; it will all help you to come to understand and enjoy the sport that is hunting - whether using one method or another. The help is there for all to take advantage of - please do so. Regards, Grim.

Lots of good info' in this thread for the would-be air rifle owner. I like the way that you can use your own sense of responsibility. That seems to make....sense. Many thanks. No problems . . at all chap. Glad to have been of help to you. Regards, Grim. -
