  1. I tried both, won't start slagging people's lines just on the few I had but they weren't great. Trevor had a days hunting with me once, he's not a bad fella. Problem is that in general the deerhound xs crowed don't test there dogs how they should do now from my experience. keeping them as much for appearance and being good natured as anything else. They take about the same time as an oak tree to mature, so if your not in any hurry to go hunting or are perhaps on bail waiting to go up for sentence and expecting 2-3 year stretch these could be the Lurcher puppy for you. Pulling l
  2. I don't work big blocks of forestry there's none round me, she'll have a job slipping away over the surrounding ariable big fields. if she hunts every inch of a small cover/wood for f & d till its completely empty I can live with that and my lurchers should be sharp eneough to be in the place to run any fleeing rabbits! She will hopefully make me a few keeper friends killing rats after the shooting season so I can get my foot in. If she self enters ill deal with it and shell have to wear a locater, but my plan isn't to take her to earths. Surely that's the bedlington mor
  3. That's a handy thing to say as advice get a spaniel. No wonder theres small gene pool and not many people working them compared to other terriers. There seems a lot of digging snobbery when it comes to this breed if you don't intend to use it to ground don't bother. After taking in advice from various people with diffrent views i took on a pup a month ago, she seems very sensible, ill fetch her up for what I want her for, not many fox to ground round here really, if she turns out an all rounder I don't mind if she just bushes that's fine, surely that's what there for, not taking to holes.
  4. Put him on his own first yes. if he keeps on use a canni calm collar. I treat all my dogs the same, but I've a saluki Lurcher that howls, like a lot of highly strung saluki lurchers I've had. If got a noise abatement notice over it, and to be honest I wouldn't have liked living next door to it, so bought 3 for all the saluki Lurchers I had at the time, didn't know I had them after that. There sneaky poxy lurchers for howling salukis. you can take them out for exercise even for work for ages and they howl with in 1/2 hour of being back, you can run down the garden to them, they'll sto
  5. I don't know the man so I can't stand up for him or his dogs but.. I did read the article I think he said 3 dogs were run through with no result. A few days later a fox was shot outside the same earth leading him to believe it was occupied. How about it was a current earth, but due to all 3 dogs not finding, the inhabitant had popped out, so was not at home? Could happen that. There's a lot of crabbing and slating on the great hunting life!
  6. Treating your own dog is totally legal as long as no unnessessery suffering is involved , same as pts your own dog But it would be illegal to treat another man's dog I agree with you but when the r.s.p.c.a raid you they'll look for antibiotics and any other meds. I know a man who had to prove what vets he had used to prove he hadn't treated his own dogs himself.
  7. Don't put your name to treating dogs yourself or even asking. I always go to a registered vetenary surgery myself!
  8. If I had to make a choice, I had to give my dogs to r.s.p.c.a or shot them? there'd go in the ground. I find homes for my injured and retired dogs myself, if there honest triers. Be honest, the feed back I've got from dogs I re homed is, as soon as there off the lead they hunt up (with no catching to do) an don't come back, they are working dogs, the same dogs with me never left my side. Is it fair to keep a driven dog on a lead all its days? Probably not. The r.s.p.c.a have no idea what is a suitable home for an x worker. I wouldn't lower myself personally to ever ask for
  9. R.s.p.c.a and working dogs/men don't mix. Only thing the r.s.p.c.a inspectors should be given is aids.
  10. No shit sherlock... They have saluki/tazi types Galore over there too, they know what they are doing... the greyhound has a massive following with folk who like the quick race... loads of hares get away, because, like you pointed out, the dogs burn out pretty fast. They use a lot of UK racing/old coursing lines there. Its a social event, as well as a contest between dogs, and as far as Ive seen they eat every hare caught, nothing is chucked in the ditch! Believe me some of the arable the land they run makes the fens look like garden lawns. They do things there way, and I for one dont fee
  11. There dying out for the same reason the bow and arrow died out.... Because the gun came along! You get lemons like that Geoff having to pedal tumblers having to take out a half page add to sell his over priced over hyped hairy dogs. Nearly all coursing men run saluki xs and a lot of people who do around lamping use lurchers with some bull in the reason is they get results end of. Don't get me wrong I can't see why anyone would keep a heavy breed bullxs, but there's nothing better to fire a Lurcher up than a dash of bull in there somewhere. I'd love to see the deerhound lurcher
  12. The un educated saluki x haters who have never seen 1 run on big land will watch this and say... That's how it should be done, these "day walkers" ( most stupid term I ever herd ) with there plodders. Drop 1 yes 1 of them dogs on thorney square or Chatteris or somewhere similar, and will see how easy it is, sure they mite kill the first hare but if they don't kill on the first 2 turns, there in for a world of pain before there muscles tighten there lungs fail them, then it's time to come to a steady stop, as mrs hare skips off in the distance. The single handed saluki based x Lurcher o
  13. University of east Anglia said today due to no natural predators the population of both muntjac and roe need reducing, munti by 50% roe 60% and they didn't mention fallow which seem even more numerous! So why the big fuss when people kill them with there dogs (yes I know it's illegal) they are saving the goverment a fortune paying TRAINED trigger happy stalkers. They should get a medal not a summons! What a back wards country we live in, with the abscents of mr wolf surely the Lurcher is the closets thing to natural selection!
  14. I chose a working breed bedlington, I can't comment on its working ability as I've not had her long but she's a sensible pup with a cracking nature and has always got her nose down like a Minnie hound already. She will suite me better than a spaniel or beagle x but I'm not saying there not good but chose something that will do what you'll ask it to do horses for courses.
  15. I think it's very rare for a pup to get parvo before 12 weeks. Personally I get mine jabbed at 8 weeks and again at 10, I take pup out after 1st jab, but I'm not a vet. Argument I always have when they tell me I need a yearly booster that I never have. "Is there any evidence of a dog jabbed as a pup catching parvo after 12 months?" Just a con from vets booster jabs, never had 1 never had any problems.
  16. I had someone one on here tell me, that's hes mate on the clip and thats not the bitch. When I asked for a pic of her, apparently she broke her kneck on a dyke last year and died? Sound convinient that too me. I've paused it and I'm confident that's dodger. Can any one else shed any light on this? I know it would probably do better on the Lurcher section, the bitch had a big wide scar on her inside thigh. Thanks.
  17. I killed a few albino rats with a plumber/Russell bitch. The same barns always held them in the genes. Not hares I know, never killed a brown one let alone white.
  18. That hare the Irish had stuffed with that Molly bitch came from a small fen round Newmarket I herd? don't think that bitch killed it did she? Only going on second hand.
  19. He changed all his phones 6 months ago and just never came back. He's a little skinny fella who came from the north east originally. Greg Sadler. Think from ashington. But then he's a compulsive liar so he might not be. The more I look the more I think that's her, bitch was called "dodger" when I owned her.
  20. Can any one please tell me who made this please? Perhaps he could help me? A Lurcher bitch briefly appears on it 1min 30 sec into the clip, if I'm not mistaken that's a bitch I breed and gifted to a man in Wisbech, if its the same bitch he told me she broke her leg!? and he gave her a way as a pet. I don't expect or want her back as I gave him the bitch and if he sold it its now the mans who bought it but I don't like liars, and he also knocked me £300 for a dog he took because he was skint and I told him to pay me when he had it. I could be barking up the wrong tree but she lo
  21. Picked a c.m.w for first time in 3 months today. It hasn't changed. 1 ad selling Rossett hunters, like there heroes of the field for over inflated prices, don't get me wrong I have and would pay more for a dog than £500 if its patents had shown heart and style in the field and it suited the work i had lined up for it but it seems these have been breed to pick there legs up like a hackney pony and hold its head up proud more than running ability. 1 ad making out a strain of rough coated lurchers are something there not, some kind of mythical poachers dog of old that have had to
  22. They won't find a coursing dog here, in fact I might get prosecuted for fraud! But it's not actually illegal to own a coursing dog just trigger 1 at a hare, a bit different to having a kennel full of smashed terriers n bull xs ( not I've got a problem with bull xs) any variety that's smashed up.
  23. I'm not a computer man, the thingy under you pretend name! Lol, some one educate me what it's called.
  24. Why do people draw attention to therselves with pictures of badgers and cock fighting and the like? Even goldfinches are a bit iffy in this ridiculous current climate! I'm sure the powers that be are capable of finding were computers are being used, were up against it as it is as Lurcher men, surely don't give them any more reason to break your door down and go totally over the top as they do.
  25. You don't want a row, we won't be having a row goldfinch. it's just some people constantly keep on about this dog jacking that dog jacked. I had a lamping bitch pull up (jack, skid, jam on etc etc) this year, she went, moved on, hopefully got better stock now. I can't see why people are so keen to go on about dogs jacking like its a badge of houner or to perhaps show people up who would carry on working such dogs (the pet owner) just let them falls go on kidding there selves. Why not say who's dogs didn't make the grade this year?
