  1. Your not the only one Moll, spoke to a pal yesterday and he's had nothing to sticks this year, all chicks have died on him with different types of birds. My year has leveled out a bit and although i lost a chick yesterday(a greenie) it was a very small chick and didn't expect it to make if i'm honest the other nests i have are doing ok,if your cock is feeding them ok up till now he should finish them off without to much problem i should think.I've found once the cocks start they do stick at the task, well my lot seem to anyway.Good luck.
  2. Agree a grand day with a good vibe about the whole show,no dumb ego's just a decent honest show and how things should be.
  3. Good idea the local bird clubs as most members do try to help newbies as much as possible and the stock you buy will more likely be something half decent once your face is known.
  4. Just seen my new isabel hen sat in a newly made nest and the cinny hen is starting one, settled in quick them two pairs ,Just rung one the greenie chicks and i have 2 lutino's and a normal, goldies on the job with their new nest and i even have a few quail chicks that have been naturaly hatched.Wonder whats going to go wrong tomorrow
  5. Cage bird and aviary mag might be worth a look or join one of the bird forums mate.
  6. Am learning it's all like a roller coaster ride keeping birds Moll, grand fun filled times followed by heart ache at times but at least the good times well out weight the bad .
  7. Fiddly little feckers ain't they mate?,i've had a mare of a week or so bird wise myself, had a couple escape caught one but have damaged it's wing.My greenfinch cock managed to squash itself in the aviary door but with bad luck comes good and i managed to catch the other bird that got out and had some very nice coloured redpolls arrive at mine from a good friend and also a couple of grand looking irish youngsters.Got greenie chicks just hatched and just hope she copes on her own this time and it sure looks like my goldies are going again, but to be honest i'm letting some finish off what nests t
  8. Depends how they get grabbed through the bars really but i was taking the p*ss alli,as we all know how he feels about them. But also many folks on here will just call him a bullshitter for saying he dug to a plummer and you've almost said as much yourself in the past about plummers but like i say just taking the p*ss.
  9. Very nice Moss and don't old xmas trees come in handy?.
  10. UGLY YES BUT SEEN SOME GRAFT, FAIR PLAY BBB Yeah but if it was someone elses plummer he'd be saying kennal fight scars ,
  11. Grand pics those mate and good luck.
  12. Here's a mates 1/2 x acd,a grand ferreting dog that don't need telling what to do. I had the litter sister to this dog,but she got killed in action. I was lucky with pace with my bitch as she wasn't ever straight lined by anything in her short life and she retrieved a few big rabbits in her time as well. The acd x is a grand old x to own but my god it'll test every ounce of patients you have and will have you asking yourself why?,but when it comes together with them it's something else .

  15. I don't know Penny,it is strange as like i say there's 3 redpoll,3 goldie and another greenie mule all about the same age give or take a few days and it's only the one he's feeding. The chick is just a bit smaller and thats just down to age rather than not being fed properly,so it is funny he's just chosen one and not others as well, just wish it was his own chicks really but thats the way it goes.As i'm typing this he's feeding it now but don't give myself much chance of a pic but i'll try.
  16. Bet your fuzzy pics are clear on it as well, deffo pink eyes mate.
  17. He's still at it but like i say only feeds it meal worms and only feeds the smaller one of the two mules she's rearing.
  18. Nice and neat youngsters there mate, well done.
  19. Two aviaries then one for cocks the other hens, got time now there not breeding ,well done and like reddawn says lets see some pics.
  20. I got a chaffie cock who has started to help feed a greenie mule fledgling,it's obviously not his chick nor has he had much to do with the red factor hen who's raised(she's a loose hen in my aviary and i've seen her with other cocks but not him)the chick.I have a few different fledglings at the moment in there so maybe with all the young un's calling out for food the urge to parent something was maybe to much to ignore for him,i know it's not something out of this world but it made me smile and we live and learn something new all the time.I will just add he only feeds the chick mealworms and n
