  1. Back online at last! Have to say I have used this rifle myself and it is a steal!
  2. My mate has used nearly all calibres for fox. He now only uses 22-250 and 22-4000. Both his own custom built varmint rifles. He was probably 'responsible' for the introduction of the 22-250 as a fox varmint calibre to the UK! His last custom build was a .20 calibre wildcat varmint rifle, custom stocked with a 'floating' heavy barrel. It looked the dogs gonads and was one holing at 150yd after he finished 'tuning' it!
  3. An expensive gun does not make you a good shot! Nor does a cheap gun make you a poor shot! As has been said best gun is one that fits and you shoot well with whatever the price tag!
  4. All the ferrets I have ever owned have done this on the first few trips. My 2nd year albino jill played on her first few trips now shes brilliant! Her offspring went out last Sun for her first working day and was exactly the same. Once they get used to working a burrow and have their first 'chase' I recon they change. Both mum and her young, a hob and jill, are very tame in their hutch and run have never bitten either me or the kids! Who wants a biting ferret!
  5. My great uncle had a magpie and a jackdaw at some stage. The magpie was free all day and used to come when he called it. Tame as you like it was! Drowned itself in a waterbutt, being territorial thought there was an intruder so kept jumping at it. Got waterlogged and we found it floating! The jackdaw was just as tame that just dissapeared one day! Old wives tale was if you split a jackdaws tongue you could get it to talk!
  6. i bought one of them for less than a tenner there good spades when your under hedgerows but not great when your digging deep holes All the best connor Thats the one me mates got its ok but if you deep, and hope you aint, it can be a bit 'awkward'! Nice and light tho and a good tool!
  7. Shovels aint designed for 'digging' Great for clearing out lose material but a bas##rd to get through hard ground! I have a vintage draining tool which has done me proud for over 20 years! I would get another of the same type but cut the blade down in length. My ferreting partner has a short bulldog spade which is ok but sometimes you need a bit more!
  8. Been luckier this year as chimps got a 4WD to get all the gear about. Makes life easier. Up to then we had always carried the stuff, 2 boxes of ferts my big bag of nets! plus chimps 20 or so, hedging hook spade plus sundries! Last year had bags of over 20 on numerous occasions and you can only get so many on the hook! We used to hang em up and collect on way back to the motor. Not so manny about this year bloody typical In John Humphries or Archie Coates Pigeon Shooting book there is a 'design' for a 'barrow' worth a look at.
  9. Sloe whiskey. How else can you drink Bells or Teachers
  10. Another quick thought is one handed opening is sometimes an advantage!
  11. Have a look at this link it may help ? http://dogs.about.com/od/dogcarebasics/a/nail_trimming.htm
  12. Have used this sort as well and both 'obscure' the nail at some point. As they say to each their own. I still go back to the guilotine ones every time. In any case its always difficult on dogs with dark claws as the quick is hard to see! Always take care they bleed for England if you get it wrong!
  13. Personally I would go for something fairly reasonably priced and not big, you dont want to lose an expensive knife! Would also go for a folding lock knife no more than 3" blade. Your talking rabbits not deer or big game!!!! Opinel are easy to sharpen and cheap but I dont really like the tip! Have a look here http://www.knifebargains.co.uk/ more knives than you can shake a stick at! You will be spoilt for choice!
  14. Hi mate. I have some nail clippers which are over 30 years ago made by Resco. Got them from a dog show when I had a Gt Dane! They are brilliant and work on a gullotine system. Used them for years, obviously!! You can change the blade no problem at all. http://www.petcetera.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_NAIL_CARE_65.html#a1464'>http://www.petcetera.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_NAIL_CARE_65.html#a1464 Found this you may be able to get them elsewhere cheaper Just £5:50 here! http://www.petcetera.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_NAIL_CARE_65.html#a1464
  15. Very clever! Still you dont look at the mantlepiece when you stoke the fire do you
  16. Have look at this site www.hatsan.com.tr. I like the look of the o/u shame they aint ejector! Mind the pcp's dont look half bad either!
  17. two pairs of socks !! Yeah right I was hoping for a good answer
  18. They fished out the Ouse at St Neots in Cambs a few years back. Not sure how it is at present tho
  19. Sure this has come up at some point but what the best method of keepin feet warm in standard wellies in this weather? Useful for all those who cant afford the LeChammeau pricing!
  20. Have to agree with farmboy on this subject. No point having expensive stuff on a 12ft lb air rifle. At the end of the day most shots are taken under 40 yds. I use a 4 x 40 scope day and night and dont have much problem. Mil dots can be an advantage as could a 50 out at night to get more light. Cant see the point of illuminated relicle either! I will stick with what I have until me eyes get real bad
  21. I recon an open fire sloe gin and a mince pie is better than being out in this weather!
  22. This topic shows people talk bollocks on this site some times
  23. Seem to remember somone posting a thread on here about a home made version. For sure a stick is helpful but something else to carry. Cut yourself a good V topped stick from a hedge and see how you get on before lashing out cash. Mind a long bipod prob better.
  24. Stubby had a 100 yarder up for £40 BARGAIN!
