  1. If conditions are right -Stiff wind, dark night, fit dog and decent lamp then I would say yes.

  3. Why would I double up mate ,Shes not a puny quivering whippet . :11:
  4. Ive seen the same system used but modified to use a rigid pole between perches. It was about 2" off the ground and used a smaller ring than usual ,I thought .
  5. An old boy I know tells me of days gone by when you could take one from the wild and fly it a season ,then hack it back .
  6. Out last night with the rifle and lurcher. My son held the dog whilst I lamped with a a scope mounted lamp kit .A very wary fox has been getting the better of a farmer mate of mine who has pheasant polts out .A trail of dead and eaten polts around the pen caused him to wait up several nights in vain to get this pest. Me and the lad waited till it was reasonably dark and had a call downwind of the area .Called a bit with no immediate results.Shining the lamp into the cover I could see the eyes of a fox but no more .I called and called but it wouldnt leave cover so a long shot from where we
  7. The shooting of foxes with a shotgun is a skill learnt through practice-Let me explain. The need for heavy shot or not relies on the position of the fox when shot .A fox squeaked in will usually come face on,not showing the whole body, therefore heavy shot is needed to transfer enough energy to the vital organs to kill it .Like p@g said, BB is the shot for this .However,If your lucky enough to be invited on a days driven fox shooting then its different .When a fox runs ,or anything else for that matter ,its vital organs are usually side on and very vulnerable. As long as marksmenship is good th
  8. If it shows you results mate then good on you .
  9. A healthy cat of any sort will not face a dog that means business, unless brought to bay ,and prefers to go up a tree.
  10. One of the problems with these cats is that if shot with a rifle then the shooter is in very real danger of losing his ticket as no police force will issue a variation for big cats as they are not proved to exist.Anyone shooting one and admitting to it would face prosecution for breaking the terms of their license.I believe no action would be taken if shot with a shotgun?
  11. Another little tip mate -Dont squeak foxes unless you intend to run /shoot them.Wise foxes are a pain for running dogs.
  12. Whilst not advocating the .22 magnum for deer ,it was the calibre I was given as a young under keeper years ago and it proved its worth over and over on a wide range of stuff .
  13. Surely a. 22 would have done the job mate .
  14. Sorry to hear that .Has the dog any surviving littermates .If you know of one and can pursuade the owner to breed then have a pup and continue the bloodline. Some good bag shots mate .
  15. Crabby -like it .My daughter had a spider crab on the line during this outing but it wouldnt fit in any of the penny nets we had and sank back to the depths.
  16. On the subject of special boxes-What you really want is a glass backed box suckered to the window.Mate has one but never realized birds woke so early :11:
  17. just like this :11: :11: :11:
  18. Both you and cragman-respect .Mark of maturity [for some .]
  19. Hawkandgog -If you have kids and I doubt it then you obviously would start them on something really testing ,prick . The 3rd pic are shore crabs, the 4th is of a velvet swimmer.Dont know the other 2.
  20. Hawkandgog -If you have kids and I doubt it then you obviously would start them on something really testing ,prick .
  21. The signal is a bonus if you a lot to check .Good post .
  22. Sorry Geordie, you are misguided on the merits of bull crosses. The Aberdeen Angus is renowned for it's poor feet, lack of stamina and distinct lack of bottle with large game. When we have proven Spanish fighting bulls why reinvent the wheel. P.S. I am also adding Lancashire heeler to the mix to produce a no-nonsence earth dog that will quickly surpass all recognised working terrier breeds...watch this space..... Anyone interested in a pup/calf can send me a large deposit via pm  When its done running ,you dont bury it ,you eat it . :11:
