  1. In my experience ,you are better off going solo .Too many with too much to say in clubs .
  2. Theobenmike-All i do is knead a slice of bread into a ball and roll it to the back of the trap .The other units are all mechanics and not one has seen or found evidence of rats .I can only think they are drawn by the grease trail of the previous victim .Anyway i will keep at them .
  3. I have a unit where i store building materials and kit ,no food of any sort [apart from the odd deer hung up overnight. lol] but for the past six months i have had rats getting in and chewing stuff .I have a fenn set permanent and have had 28 with that and a live trap .Monday night i went to load kit for the next day and found one in the live trap .Despatched it and drove home .Forgot the cordless drill so went straight back up and found another in the live trap .Nice to be brushing up on skills but where the feck they coming from .Incidentally ,ive found the best way to live trap rats is bed
  4. ................................., ANYBODY ELSE HAD BOTHER WITH BIRDS OF PREY? Prince Harry Damn, beat me to it .lol. It is said that kites were as commen as seagulls are now ,years ago and that the gull has replaced kites as the main inland scavenger ,especially around rubbish tips .As for a kite taking a ferret ,that wouldnt happen .The size of the feet denote what birds of prey kill and kites are not endowed in that department .Scavengers and insect eaters .
  5. Went out with josh to some of my permission .Had to be the best night ,weather wise of the year so far .Just lacked cloud cover .Anyway we set off into the wind and towards where the keeper has lost several birds to both fox and a feral cat of the black variety .This particular keeper is very vigilante but has been unable to shoot either .I took the .22 along because the land borders a housing estate and i thought the centre fire was a bit much .Around the first bend of the second field ,josh spotted a cat up on a pen pole in some game crop ,cheeky bugger and i squeaked .It came belting in bu
  6. Good night you boys had .Good job the farmer was out though .lol.
  7. Looks like you all had a good day .Nice to see you clearing away around the dog ,they need that vital air to carry on .
  8. "hold on there dick face. im just saying that retards like you think that a few easy draws and a few marks make a dog great. give a dog plenty of hard work and i can guarantee that most of them will start to bark. when pre ban was mentioned i presumed stronger quarry than foxes were in question" If that is aimed at me then what can i say ----You truly are the master of draw ...............If you can remember as far back as pre- ban the hard stuff then you are too old to be getting your blood pressure up .
  9. Pictures mean nothing mate .Right -Draw dogs -Ive personally seen quite a few very different breeds at the job with some surprises coming from some tiny whippet crosses .Lets look at whats required here -The dog is usually used by lads who for some reason do not have or want a gun for dispatch and the big dog is expected to pull quarry out and dispatch it .The dog is required to draw regardless of the position of quarry in the hole ,ass or face on .The smaller dogs of light muscle may have trouble in pulling quarry out and i have scars about me when i assisted a non descript lurcher in this ac
  10. Good to see some proper terriers mate .Keep at it.Keep that lurcher in tune too .
  11. Very well written .Also 'humble pie' by the same author, some questions on stalking answered.**********[ten stars]
  12. Fancy taking any more guests out ?The fallow buck has eluded me so far in my life but one day!.
  13. For squirrels ,all ive ever done is squeak like you would a fox call .They get aggitated and chatter at you ,sometimes appearing very bold in thier quest to find the sourse of the niose . The coins are slid together face to face ,fast then slow .
  14. The weight thing yes ,but length ?So much easier on the ears and shoulder mate .
  15. This thread rekindled my interest in calling munties .Heard one tonight down in a patch of rushes whilst walking the dogs .The sharp bark of a buck if i wasnt mistaken .Called back to it and it literally came crashing through the spinney towards me but the dogs had other ideas and coursed it 3 fields away towards a main road so i got them back .
  16. Nice stag there mate .Not too far to drag i hope .
  17. That bag with the porn and sex aid stuff ,was'nt a gateways bag was it and can i have it back ...............................lol.
  18. Next season mate .Some rabbits will have become immune to the fecking thing and breed ,hopefully .
  19. If the mating call of an owl is twit -ta -woo,and the mating call of a pigeon is two- cows- tuffy then what is the mating call of a black bird .......................................................... Stick it up my arse ,Leeroy. Vermin ,the lot of 'em .
  20. My vote was a yes simply because its a discipline I would love to try .Some sort of license and testing system could weed out the idiots ,not all but most .To get within bow killing distance is an art in itself and how satisfying .Still ,another dream .
  21. Like most things in my life ,i have taken ratting for granted but now its gone and no sign of the old days returning ,i dont half miss it .Good on you all and may there be many more outings of that calibre .
  22. "Been a while since I've shot the .223. I've missed it! Must remember to bring ear protectors next time though." Sounds like a good enough reason to get it silenced mate .You wont regret it .
  23. What sort of money do you get per article ?? Dito that
  24. Nice one mate ,hope thats the first of many .Cant beat it .
  25. Farmer called me Sunday afternoon to ask if i would look around the fields for a fox that has had his bantoms. The relief milker was supposed to shut them in the night before but forgot and next morning they were scattered to the four winds ,mostly dead but 6 returned but very jumpy.Took the .222 and scope mounted lamp .Saw a fox run across the road as i approached the farm so had high hopes .Didnt get far as i saw one in the first field and right by the hen coop !,although not the one i'd seen on the road .It ran from the light but stopped at the sound of a low squeak from me .The shot was ag
