  1. Good bag there mate .For serious decoying of corvids you need 1] a bait within gun range 2] a flapper and call to get birds within range . A combination of the two is my favourite .Sorry no pics but we have killed 104 assorted corvids near a maize silage clamp using the maize as the draw and two rooks on a pigeon magnet .
  2. Ive always rated the .222 mate In my opinion an all rounder .
  3. We do a similar thing but on a quad bike .Particular foxes are seen in the same fields for a while [until we get them ]but are lamp and squeak shy .We go round once with the rifle and leave the gates open and the second time we dont squeak anything ,just drive into fields ,lamp on and its balls out till we get it .Very effective.
  4. the best way i would reccomend would be swimming ,wrong time of year now unless you can find a hydrotherpy pool where the dog will be forced to swim tethered to a bar against a jet. I certainly would not be letting the dog free run ..gentle excercise on grass lead on tarmac no running on hard ground will just aggreviate the leg.If your near a beach the sand water will be a better surface for the dogs leg. When the weather improves water will support the weight of the dog and the muscles and ligament will be forced to stretch and work.. Little and often would be the best course for an improve
  5. My personal veiw is that it dosnt matter what you use as long as its legal and hits what you want it too .
  6. Im with you mate .When i saw "tits out for the lads "i persevered and read the lot ,thinking that at least one female member would grace the page in all her glory Now im behind schedule and late for lamping .

  8. Air gun ? A .22 hornet is not much but its no air gun and yes it will put down big stuff .
  9. On the way to work this week ,ive been seeing a muntie on some ground i have by the side of a main road .Left a bit earlier this morning and sure enough he was there ,standing on his back legs to browse a hedge .Parked up at the farm and made my way down to where he was seen .He had moved and was now in a swampy area behind the hedge .I was overlooking the whole area from a bank and felt i was in full veiw but he never noticed me and i was able to get down for a prone shot .I judged the distance to be 130-40 yds and allowed an inch above the normal chest shot as the sights are zeroed at eighty
  10. Good luck with the f.a.c mate .You had a nice introduction to the sport and i hope you stay with it .You arnt too far away from me and if theres anyway i can help i will ,just pm me .
  11. Phone call from a farmer tonight to say that he had lost a brace of indian runners this afternoon .I had to work tonight so had a look on the way home .First field ,lamp on and theres charlie ,only 40 yds .A free hand shot with the lamp in one hand and the rifle in the other ,thankfully connected and a small vixen was accounted for .Took the fox to the farmer who asked for it to be opened up .A few feathers and a beak was all that i could identify so hopefully this was the one .Pic of dissected fox deemed too gory for a public forum .
  12. patrick, iv read alot of your posts in the past and thought you talked sense, but i read this one with astonishment..... i find it hard to beleive that someonethat has talked so much sense in the past can come out with a statement like "call it what you will but bird shoots are ALL about planting birds and then blasting them............ you need to do a little more reserch, what about the wild life i / we encourage back into our country side by the endless hours of vermin control we do?? I took over one of these so called canned shoots four year ago, in the first few days that i
  13. As they say ,a picture speaks a thousand words so that would cut down Ditchies writing time by an hour and a half ,therefore giving him more time to shoot the next one . .
  14. Head shoot only then cut off and disgard the head
  15. This is only my opinion but i like ferrets to have a season at rabbits before they face a rat .Confidence is the key to entering anything ,be it dog or ferret .Wear gloves and clean the dogs up as said .
  16. Some years ago ,it was general practice to lamp the river that borders some of my permission and pick out the jack pike in the lily pads .They were shot with the rimmy ,retrieved and eaten .
  17. Apologies for the pic of yet another dead fox ..................................NOT
  18. Whats wrong with pictures of dead critters you soft lot .This is a hunting site and the result of most peoples hunting ,mine anyway is a dead creature .As long as the story of its demise is told to accompany the pic then whats wrong ?
  19. Have you not considered reloading mate .Its not the rocket science you may think .
  20. Had a look out with josh off the site and a mate who has a quad .Very light night but plenty of rabbits about .Shot 23 which in our neck of the woods is good going .Just driving down the main drag for a final look in the bottem fields when the driver picked out charlie sat just inside an open gateway. We were moving on fairish so a reverse was needed and he was still there .Just got him lined up when he had other ideas and sped away .We drove down the lane parrallel to where he was running and saw he was headed to the lower ground .Drove to the far gate which was open and lamp on .He was runnin

Age ---------Well ,ive seen this buck for definately 2 seasons in the same location ,same antler style and he replaced another i shot 3 seasons ago .If pressed ,i would age him at 5-6 years as he was going back in body carriage ,ie-slightly saggy back .The molars were well worn which is why i put the extra year on !
