  1. You were unlucky then mate . I once worked on a farm for a while ,blocklaying and the farmer had a big white tom cat that knew how to bully the farm dogs ,partly because the farmer shouted at them if they so much as looked at the cat .This cat it was said ,was not afraid of anything and drove foxes off from the buildings at night .[not hard] .I was told the silage clamp was being emptied the next day and rats were expected in number .I asked if i could bring along my little terrier cross and was told i was welcome as long as i was aware of the cat .The ratting passed with not as many seen as
  2. I remember my gran hanging one in the porch for a while with its throat cut wide ,guts in .The blood was collected for use in the gravy making .She pot roasted it with all the veg but god did it smell rank .No amount of disguise could cover up that rotten hare ,yet my grandad thought it was the dogs bollocks .I'd rather slow cook a saddle these days and give the rest to the ferrets ,fresh .
  3. Thats a "pincher" as the missus calls then .Yes an earwig if your not in Wiltshire! .
  4. Those who said stitch it are in my opinion the better dog men .In conjuntion with a head collar the wound is a 10 dayer/2 weeker and not a month .No need for vets either .All running dog lads /lasses should have by now bought the staples from CMW.A small sterile tube is put next to the lowest staple as a drain which needs to be kept clean and clear .Excellent ,even if you get some else to stitch your own dog . Think about it .You know it makes sense . Foxdropper .
  5. Anyway ,back to lurchers and cats, yes they will ,bull optional .Feck me ,ive have a tiny 20 inch terrier cross lurcher that did a dozen ferals in a morning .Whitewarrier will vouch for that .
  6. Now see ,you are loosing vital 1/8 there mate .Nail the fecker out and get a proper reading .lol.
  7. We may not have the terrier work open to you europeans but we keep a stiff upper lip about what little we can do . Not jealous one bit are we ..................................
  8. Hope youve been to the gym as they feel like a ton after an hour .
  9. Nice set up there mate .Is it heavy though ?
  10. Is there any sign of fresh digging activity from the holes in which the traps were sprung .We used to get a fair few traps sprung by this .You have to trap a hole warren or stop some of it ,so the chance of a couple of traps being filled with soil is fairly high .Try the trap at arms length?
  11. On the legal side of breeding tame coloured rats --no problem, but the law frowns on purposely breeding the wild variety.
  12. Yep ,we are graced with them in Wiltshire too .Stirs something inside to hear the "cronk cronk".
  13. Scatter some sand around the snares ,then identify any prints .
  14. Leave them breed for the winter ?See you have your finger on the very pulse of nature around you .DOH.
  15. This sort of thing needs posting everyday mate .Too British ,WTF.
  16. Excellent description there mate .Beautiful countryside and a great result .Well done .
  17. Treading carefully here or perhaps not -no feck it ,lets go for it -----------Terriers of the sort kept by digging lads are a pain to walk off lead anywhere and the thought of bushing more than one in thick cover makes me cringe .The reason being _Holes and the chance of more than one terrier to ground .If you train the terriers to stay out of holes ,quite easy with some , then I suppose a pack of borders or plummers would do . Far better to use a purpose bred dog for the biz and that is the springer spaniel with the added bonus that its not going to fire into your lurcher for catching hi
  18. Nice one mate .Keep these posts coming .
  19. Open tickets are generally granted as a matter of course after the first 5 years .Closed tickets as you call them limit you to the land you first submitted on the form .This land is known as "core" land and is the only place you can legally zero your rifle .Open tickets do not give you access to just anywhere with the firearm .You are allowed to verify that a piece of land is in your opinion, fit for a particular calibre but this can and has been disputed by firearms officers ,should they be called in .The best policy is to contact your firearms dept' and ask about a given piece of land and th
