    My vote was a yes simply because its a discipline I would love to try .Some sort of license and testing system could weed out the idiots ,not all but most .To get within bow killing distance is an art in itself and how satisfying .Still ,another dream .

    Like most things in my life ,i have taken ratting for granted but now its gone and no sign of the old days returning ,i dont half miss it .Good on you all and may there be many more outings of that calibre .

    Farmer called me Sunday afternoon to ask if i would look around the fields for a fox that has had his bantoms.The relief milker was supposed to shut them in the night before but forgot and next morning they were scattered to the four winds ,mostly dead but 6 returned but very jumpy.Took the .222 and scope mounted lamp .Saw a fox run across the road as i approached the farm so had high hopes .Didnt get far as i saw one in the first field and right by the hen coop !,although not the one i'd seen on the road .It ran from the light but stopped at the sound of a low squeak from me .The shot was ag

    Until recently we did a farm that was wall to wall organic chickens.It was always a guaranteed place to bag at least a brace a night but in 2005 we saw numbers that were uncharacteristic even for us .We started seeing double figures a night and shooting nearly the same [we never did manage over 7].We dug plenty during the day in the easy earths on this sandy farm .The damage to the chicken stocks went up drastically and we did the place twice a week at night for a year until the killing subsided and we conentrated elsewhere .Some of the foxes were extremely stupid ,with us shooting 2 even 3 i

    Magpie- as greengrass has said ,the buttalo will call in a munty ,at any time of year as opposed to late summer for the roe.You will need to be alert as they ,by there small size can be in and gone very fast .I have called them to within several metres using my voice and replicating the stacato bark of a randy munty calling a suitor .I have found ,and to the contrary of what ive read ,that both sexes call but the calls are very different.The buck is a dog like single bark at about 6 second intervals whereas the doe will bark higher pitch and randomly .Once a munty is called and shot ,make a no

    Ditchy -Just a thought mate but your a smoker right .I was until recently but have seen the light , and by feck do i see a big difference in catch rates ,especially the first night of a set when there is no nicotine to wear off .I have an ongoing problem in my lock up with rats that until i gave up were ,to me untrappable but now the tally is 25 with a fenn and live trap .Your success will come sooner or later and i look forward to the 1000 word description of events lol.

    Ive had good success in the past with 2 single entry traps ,back to back ,especially in the spring .This time of year you have to watch out when setting traps along the water line as flash floods can relieve you of several traps in a night [experience] .I found a good way to lead mink to the trap was to find the runs along the water line and dig a channel to the trap from there ,baiting the way as you do with fish oil .Covering a trap is optional as they are certainly not trap shy when fresh .Good luck .

    Spot on mate , if you want sport you have to travel.I travel thousands of miles a year for my sport.People moan that they dont have the quarry but arent prepared to go out of there way and look for it. Myself ,I roll out of bed at a reasonable hour and decide which hedgerow to walk up today ,all within 10 miles of my house lol..

    If you mean do i take out a few does then the answer is -quite a few .19 does shot since the season started . What don't you like about your Meopta scope?-Keeps fogging and the cross hairs are a tad fine for 'on dark' shots . Will save for something a bit special .
