  1. Well done on the set up mate .My only point would be that the nose area is a bit too square .Not meant as a critism ,just an observation that can be addressed next time if the need arises .Nice buck there mate .
  2. The grass where this one was is still very short and will be cut for hay when, luckily the kids will be up a bit .This kid was in a patch of cosksfoot which always pushes higher in a meadow .
  3. No' may 'about it mate ,defo a medal .Im guessing high silver.
  4. Martin came up for a stalk and the long and short is that we never saw a buck but did chance on a kid in the grass ,motionless as only they can be .Estimated at maybe 2 weeks old but no more .Mother moved in as we walked away .Couldnt see what the sex was but made our evening.
  5. So non of you treat rats, mice, or rabbits any different to say a deer?? I find this hard to believe. Never killed a rat with a stick or put out poision? Condeming it to a slow death from hyperthemia. All life treat the same.....BOLLOCKS You are making yourself look a bit of a tit John .Quit while you still can ,not good for business .Never poisoned anything in my life mate .
  6. Now then mate ,you know who is looking for pics of that quality .Some cracking photos in there that would grace the pages of any book
  7. Personally i tend to give every living creature respect ,even rats deserve to die quickly and to be honest im a bit surprised at you Mr Robbo.Deer are ,as far as my landowners are concerned deemed as pests to be destroyed on sight and before you say yes but they are my living, well, they are part of mine too .Luckily i do things my way and keep the popultion in check along with other species but everything gets the same respect .As to long shots they are indiferent to me as i would do the same given a better set up .Its easy to think of everyone the same level or worse than ourselves regards
  8. Its only easy because i make it look that way mate .As you know you still have to get in position for the shot no matter how many deer you have and with more deer thats more eyes .Your just jealous anyway
  9. One consolation is that these pricks usually dont stay at it for long, going on to bikes or cars hopefully .Luckily for us there arnt that many at the game around our area but of course there are the pretenders as with any where .
  10. Agreed .Dont know if theres any official records kept on the height of antler but this one is 12 1/2 inches high ,317 mm from top of skull to a line across both antlers .There were two sub adult bucks waiting in the wings from where he came from last rut and i guess their time has come this rut to step up to the mark .
  11. All day ive been itching to get out but its been cold and rainy here in Wiltshire .At 5pm the sun came out but it was still chilly in the wind .Had some tea then headed out to a spot i rarely go as its a very small farm of about 100 acres but holds a few deer if left alone for a while .The farmer said on the phone that hed seen a few so off i went .Got there at 7pm dead and glassed the top fields from the farm yard .Nothing there or in the fields in the foreground but there is a field tucked away out the wind on the boundary to my left .Wind was perfect for a stalk up to the gateway .As i app
  12. Quality there mate ,thanks very much for sharing them .
  13. Quality mate ,genarally see our first around june time .
  14. I would put it down to the tree type that the bucks are cleaning on .Pine sap or the tannin within must but a darker dye than our deciduous trees.Either way there is a definate divide between roe heads north and south .We tend to get spread beams whereas the scottish heads are tight and straight .Nice head there vissy especially if called in May
  15. Boil carefully mate ,you may have your first medal there too albeit a bronze.Excellent account as usual but was that the buck intended for me lol.
  16. After using all those condoms ,im surprised you had the energy for any other shooting
  17. Check all the lintels at ground level as this is where the cavity is sometimes left open .Overhanging trees as said, are a favourite too mate .
  18. Its very hard to picture a sum of 200 or 300 quid changing hands for a pup ,something which ive never done right form the start .I feel that the more the pup costs ,the higher the expectation ,the bigger the regret if its useless .No wonder certain breeders have to give a refund at those prices. However ,if the pup turns out a goodun and breeds gooduns ,what price can you put on that ? I always offer to jab the pup thats a lads keeping when offered a pup but in most cases even that is turned down .
  19. Theres quiet lads that dont want any recognition that have done plenty more for the game mate believe me .Did i read right ,£300 a pup ?.
  20. Now thats quality Mark . Question -If a lad has the dsc 1 and 2 and no previous experience is he eligible to take on a lease straight away from the forestry commision? .I think i know the answer but is it right for this to happen .Is following up a wounded animal part of the testing as it surely should be ,as should the need for a deer finding dog be covered or at least the use of one in such situations .The hands and knees locating of a wounded beast is daunted to experienced chaps without being thrown in the deepend as well . No matter how you dress it up ,it will never take the place of
