  1. Your points are noted and realized but the reason for the no shooting is to observe and i know from experience that once your the trust is gone they never return to the same passive state .I have enough areas to shoot on without disturbing this one .
  2. Its not all about pulling the trigger ,how many times do i have to say this
  3. Heres a couple of pics from a small patch ive just aquired but the deer are very tame having been used to horse riders and people in general .To be honest i will probably use it to watch deer rather than shoot them as it would be a shame to undo this trust for the sake of a bullet . The first deer i came across let me get to within 40 yds before sauntering off . This old doe let me walk right up to her and i retreated with her still sat .Very priveliged to be so close to be honest.Saw a munty too but he wasnt so obliging.
  4. Old ,injured and diseased -not the best venison to tempt a farmer with mate .
  5. Personally dug to a few of these dogs and was satisfactory but no more than that or no less .They couldnt find in a big place though when another type did but thats just based on a few outings and not a season .Dogs looked good ,hard bodied and good coated .
  6. If this lad is truly looking for advice and i have my doubts then its been overlooked that the law classes anywhere inhabited by a badger as an occupied sette and as such you are disturbing a sette by digging ,moving or entering a dog .This includes an artificial earth ,stack of bales ,pile of logs or tires and anywhere else a badger will inhabit from time to time .Even for a time served lad the chances are he will find one in an unlikely place and then your in the hands of the gods.A terrier that only marks fox is a great asset .
  7. Farmer phoned to say he was putting lambs out last weekend and could we have a look in the usual places for a vixen to ground that he'd seen previous in the area .The earth we finally found in is a sprawling place of 50 odd holes ,shallow but part rabbity ,ideal for a vixen and cubs . Fresh digging and scrapes greeted us in this place that boosted morale straight away as we'd traipsed the land all morning looking for a mark in some deep old places. This earth has been good to us over the years but has been dead since boxing day .Mates rough coated pat marked at both ends of the earth before
  8. Simple answer to original post -NEVER.Dont need to back this up because if you need to ask then youll never know.
  9. Lamping last night with the wife on the lamp .Weve tried all week to get a fox for my boy whos put in a lot of time on paper targets with the .243 as well as every night up until 9.30pm as he has school .Seen a lot of foxes but nothing for a starter shot if you know what i mean .Last night he decided to stay in on the playstation, the other passion of his but the wife wanted to go out anyway as shes got the bug too .Went to a place that produes the odd fox and damn me if one didnt come screaming in from at least 1/4 a mile away.Ran all the way ,over a stream and through a flooded field to arr
  10. Not 100% sure mate but i think tb is a notifiable disease in deer therefore any suspected should be examined by a vet .Im no expert but generally an animal that has the disease is very dull of cat and visably thin with no shine to the eyes .Stand out a mile away but i suppose the early stages is what you refer to .Martin will no doubt add to this as hes pretty clued up on what to look for.
  11. Are the boots dry yet mate Ring me when you want another look out mate
  12. t8 on the t3 but unsilenced .222 .Makes me appreciate the t8 .
  13. A free day Friday so decided to have a look out first light .The daughters boyfriend who works for me ,has been on to me about shooting a deer for sometime now and having shot paper with me i knew he was ready for the real thing albeit under full instruction. He has always been into airguns and now has a shotgun with quarry respect top of conversations. He arrived 15 minutes early on his scooter so a cup of tea was in order before the off .Drove to a spot just out of town to where there is a few deer and where the landowner has asked for a beast for the table, arrived at 6.15 am to a perfec
  14. ............And you moved there due to the sence of humour failure presumably, place is full of them im told .If we cant have a laugh at someone elses expense then its a poor show.Someone will no doubt take the lass out but as Hywel says ,standards must be maintained.
  15. Looks like the boy Booth has a new mummy.Lets hope the old man can hang onto this one as shes clearly besotted
  16. The neck is jabbed in mammals because its the only area of skin for a subcutaneous [spelling] injection available that can be safely liftly away from blood vessels ,arteries, muscle .Inter muscular injection is self explanatory and is local to the troubled area.
  17. Must be a litter on the way lads Lines of working dogs DO matter but frankly not that far back to be honest .Some very good workers from this strain to be fair but the bullshit that goes with the real deal isnt worth a special trip to get one ive found .No more said on the subject as im still pissed off from dealings 10 years ago .
  18. Some vital stats would be helpful Dont want to be seen out with any old trout
  19. About time too I said" ABOUT TIME TOO " Spoils the hearing too ,i said SPOILS ,you get the gist .Been on a cull myself today and managed three fallow.

  21. Bit of a tale to my first stag and im sure willrockyted wont mind me relating it .Booked a weekends stalking years ago way up in the highlands which was an ALL INCLUSIVE trip priced at £450 .I was 21 at the time .Roe unlimited with a red stag thrown in ,no trophy fees .Shot several roe before the oppotunity arose for a stag way out on the moor .Being a bit green back then i took it as par for the course when we ducked under a deer fence that he assured me meant nothing more than the distinction between hill and forest .We ,the stalker and me ,set off for a distant roaring and passed up a fe
  22. Hang on a minute -they look like they would make a great pair of slippers .
  23. Good post mate .A lot of lads out there wont have a clue what your on about though.
  24. When line breeding its a matter of what gelled with what but the introduction of an outcross however tight does tend to throw in a mix, not always desirable traits either .Its the outcrossing that needs writing down .As much info on the breeding of that outcross as you can muster from the breeder and the results of subsequent litters when added to your own .Ideas come to mind when re-reading such info and i know its done me favours in the past .As for digging records ,none kept . Such things are ingrained in the memory i find and just need prompting from time to time when in like minded compan
