Forgot to add this pic of a close up of his face as he has a puncture wound below his right eye ,probably from another buck .Deep enough to put half my finger in .

Local came up again for a further lesson in this fine art ,lol.Took him to a place where a farmer is moaning about deer trapped in a field he has electric fenced ready for cattle and hes worried about them damaging themselves and undoing his hard work so i said id take a look .This is also an intensive organic chicken farm if thats the right combination of words to use so fox control is of utmost importance .We glassed the area from the truck and were more than surprised to see two young bucks out together following each other in the lush ,long grass and at the far end of this meadow .We plan

Sort of talked myself out of it being a really good one but looking at the pics again on here it could make a decent medal and yes i was a bit excited when i got to him mate .

THERE IS A PLACE FOR AL TYPES AND AL WORKSTYES SHOULD BE BRED FOR Sorry mate but i couldnt agree less .Ive seen good lines ruined by professional terriermen that require bolting ,20 minute wonder dogs and from men that should know better .Bolting dogs CAN be created but to the detriment of the worker as a whole .I fully understand the work of a terrierman past and present but hate to see a good digging line used for these purposes .If its a bolter you want then get a russel ,lol . The dog that has this disposition is, im afraid to say ,scared of the fox and gives him enou

Local off the site came up for a stalk and met him on the motorway roundabout at 6.30 pm .Off to the ground and got there at 7pm .Sun was shining but a wind had got a bit which i knew would affect the deer a bit .Four big fields is all i have here but its a good bit of ground to have for the deer .A pond is at the centre and its where i shot the first buck of the season .We set off on a boundary stalk to check if anything was out yet but nothing .The second time round we stalked slower as the magical hour was upon us .Sure enough a buck was moving down a hedge from right to left infront of us

Clean your barrel or leave it dirty?
Squirrel_Basher replied to langouroux's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I used to subscribe to the clean ,clean ,clean theory but as someone who does there fair share of shooting on live quarry ,ive found that the .243 opperates better with no cleaning at all and if its not broke dont fix it sounds good to me .I think its either all out clean every time or leave well alone to be honest . -
Well in mate, another call coming your way i expect.

A fox will bolt from its own shadow most times ,even a hob ferret will do .Any terrier or any dog for that matter that can fit down a hole will bolt a fox that can get away .A dog that stands off its fox is the one that gets most bolts ,something i detest. The terrier allows the fox the freedom to move and charlie will use that everytime .IMO its the road to ruin when breeding from two of this type .Bolts happen no matter what you do apart from stopping in .My advice to anyone working terriers is to savour the dig at every opportunity and treat bolts as a hazard of the job and deal accordingly.

The otter is making a propper comeback around us in the westcountry, ousting the mink along the way .Its been said they released the european otter which i believe is a bit bigger than our native version but i have yet to clap eyes on one yet alone see what terrier does.Been blamed for some very big barbel kills on the avon and huge carp near horseshoe lake .One day maybe ,one day .Old boy that showed me the ropes [now deceased]used to tell of otters on the local river that he worked that would shake a terrier with no respect then bind to it, wrap around it .

Fascinating head there John and good stalk by the looks of things .

Know where your comming from when talking of Perukes, but i said damaged testies can cause hormonal inballance during the growth of the antler leading to Malform. Broken long bones ie leg bones are often- the the cause of a malformed antler on the opposite side of the head to the broken bone,if you know what i mean????? 6 pointer Got ya
-
C,mon FD youve got more in one field as we have up here in total Not so much the numbers mate ,just better stalkers here in the South, lol.
-
Sorry to pull you up on that six pointer but malforms are caused by neither lack of balls or brocken bones .Its direct damage to the growing antler and surrounding blood vessels that causes this. You are thinkng of perukes maybe in the case of castration!.
