  1. Just in from a place where i do the control around some chicken sheds and bumped into the farmer who said hed just seen a fox in his rearing field where he starts the day old chicks under lamps in big polly tunnel like sheds .There is electric fencing around each shed but non the less hes always wary of a break in .Drove to this spot and sure enough i could see charlie nose down around the wire of one shed and about 120 yds out in the fading light .I got out quietly and sorted the rifle ,had time to get on sticks even and lined up on matey .He was still head down so a gentle squeak saw the hea
  2. I disagree entirely with what you say. For a start, pups of under 2 weeks old, eyes still shut, shouldn't even be seen as a threat by the bitch. Her maternal instincts should tell her that she doesn't need to see such tiny pups as a threat. I have known, fortunately not owned, bitches which were so warped in their heads that they would and did kill their own pups for venturing near the food. That is not normal at all, for any breed. Most of my bitches actually stand back and stop eating when their pups approach the food. When the pups are much older, from 6-8 weeks of age, then yes, I agr
  3. I know what quarry you refer to mate but its a long time since we were allowed to do that over here. The draw dog in this country ,preban of course was used to draw a fox and kill it and i think thats what the original poster was referring to .Always seemed a bit messy to me and not why i was out in the first place .I like things done in as humane way as possible and having dug to a terrier i dont think its fair to quarry to be subjected to any more and a gun is the right thing in my book .Not judging anyone but that side always seems to attract the wrong sort .
  4. Having seen a few myself ,it has never really sat well with me and does not show the quarry the respect it deserves .In my book if something deserves to die then quick is the word ,something that is often talked about with strong dogs but rarely if ever seen .I have no problem with the idea but reality its always far from ideal .
  5. Thats because pics of working plummers are like rocking horse shit mate .In fact the two words are rarely mentioned in the same sentence .Yes rats are a suitable quarry for them, just , but that dosnt make them a working terrier.Cairns will do the same .
  6. FFS dont muzzle her .Nothing to do with the breed ,any bitch can be like this. She will not savage the pups at all .Some bitches are good at keeping pups in line and thats what she is doing .They are subordinate to her and she eats first .Seperating them will only enforce this fact and she will get worse .Leave her to it mate , she wont harm them .The squealing you heard was natural for a pup that is chastised and did not harm the pup at all .Too many people on here giving out advice that frankly is a load of bollocks and would be out of place even in a plummer book .
  7. As you posted it here ,are you trying to convince us they were taken with a terrier ,jagd maybe ,lol.Repost in the stalking section mate and see the replies flood in .Thats some collection there mate but i suppose hes loaded and does nothing else, not that im jealous or nowt .
  8. Those with sika wish they had more roe mate but yes we could do with a few in Wiltshire /Somerset .Not the right habitat i fear though from what ive read about . Tommy mate ,what makes a good sika spiker ,im guessing the body weight .Do you have many where you are now mate .
  9. Well within our budget mate ,well have to arrange a trip next fall maybe .

  13. Yesterday ,Friday, saw me in beautiful Dorset with Local Yokel off the site.He has a patch of ground here courtesy of his Godfather .The area ,although small is situated within a large forest area of mixed woodland and is mostly cleared forest ground with high pruned areas .The local deer are mostly sika with a sprinkling of roe and fallow and they are making a nuisance ,as only deer can,by eating the regrowth as fast as it appears . There is two high seats ,one at either end that allows to cover the whole patch and any deer on it are shootable when both seats are filled .We arrived in good
  14. I personally find them very intriguing .They are ,around us anyway the most vocal of deer barking for a mate ,barking at alarms and ive even heard squeaks between doe and fawn .I could never set out and think 'right, today im going munty stalking' as they are so elusive here but lots about if the barking is anything to go by . .Martin has the ideal ground from what ive seen but never a guarantee as in roe stalking .They even seem to browse on the move . If theres a doe in season about then the bucks can get caught right out in the open at any time of day in their quest for a bit of passion .Mo
  15. Last shed done last night but a measley 25 rats caught due to one of the drinkers being split and flooding the floor.
  16. Another shed done today .We had 114 with nine fresh terriers .
  17. Our best is 643 from one shed,4 terriers , two lurchers but the husbandry is much better now so those days are gone .
  18. The farmer moves the shed off the shit and then uses a loader to pile the shit up ,took three hours ,4 dogs .
  19. Listen ,to all those who are moaning about it stop and think a bit .The lads that are in it for the long haul ,geniune lads i mean ,those that know the game inside out will not have a pup for sale for any price so why does it concern anyone who digs that a terrier is selling for a large sum of money ,that is obviously not bred for the digging game .I dont give two fecks what people are charging for whatever as i wouldnt touch one anyway . If you are at all interested in the digging then stay away from money ,the two dont mix .The only way to start with good stock is to earn it and if this ne
