    Dont mean to be the bringer of doom mate but if youve left this untreated for some time you may be too late .What starts as an ear infection can lead to partial brain damage if not treated correctly .Get it to the vets asap and forget the ratting until its been given a clean bill of health .

    During exercise of any sort especially running for your life in any animal there is a build up of lactic acid in the muscles caused by, i think ,the production of adrenaline .The acid being a biproduct .This is what most of us seek to aviod when producing a carcass as it taints the meat and im told affects storage .

    Well done on your calling mate .For shotgun its a must but its usually the other way round for me when i have to stop a fox from coming too close .The rifle is a very different tool im sure you know but nice to see a fellow caller .I had one hit the back of my legs once but he realized his mistake soon enough and i missed him twice with the shotty .High seats are the best for a call ive found .

    Must be a shortage of deer around you mate as i would never dream of eating road kill no matter how slight the injury .You never saw the animals behaviour before death as in stalking therefore cannot say whether it was ,on first seeing it,a fit animal or not. I would class the carcass as contaminated and destroy .

    Nice one, 99 that takes some doing, what's your biggest fox total in 1 season? You wont believe this but my best year was 2005 with 287 foxes shot ,dug and dogged with a few snared .These were off a very large free range set up that had a very poor husbandry/shutting in policy and the losses before we arrived were colossal .272 were from this farm alone in one year .Needless to say we were out twice a week and all weekend at the place until the numbers were well down ,the year after we only got 70 odd .The year previous we did 94 and the year before that we managed 86.I live in an area tha

    Waiting for an extension to start Thursday so a few hours out between the paperwork .First light found me in a high seat overlooking the plantation thats had a bit of deer trouble .     I would say no hard and fast rules in any situation .The size and apparent condition of the followers would be the overriding factor in my choice but to get numbers you HAVE to shoot the doe first there is no alternative .I have taken many followers being one of two with the knowledge that the survivor will do better .Yeld does are a preference but not always apparent ,with followers unseen nearby sometimes . As said ,shoot a doe and then wait or shoot a follower and see the others scamper off not to return . The lie of the land would be a factor too .If the doe was a marginal shot to start w
