  1. Dont know where these weights are coming from to be honest and i would say theres been a bit of long nose syndrome myself as the roe in the south are said to be the best fed yet they struggle to make the weights described above .I do my fair share and as everything goes to the dealer i see weights all the time .An average doe would be 35-40 with a few exceptions at 45 with the very odd one at around 50 but very odd that is .The bucks go in at between 38-42 with again the odd exceptions a bit higher .The biggest i ever shot was a perruke at 55 pound clean .These weights are not guessed at but o
  2. The lead up to the rut has been long this year but they are at it proper now .Do these people think some of us are easily lead or what
  3. Glaucoma can rear its ugly head at any age in a terrier ,sadly after a bitch has been bred from we have found as the man is right in saying its inherited .Its not necessarily the end for the terrier as we have two bitches with this condition. One thats 8 just gone blind in one eye and still going and a young daughter of 18 months thats just started .We know now its the bitch thats the carrier as all her last litter have it so none will be bred from again .Pity as its been a good line .What we cant trace is the introduction of this malady as like i said the old bitch was fine until the age of
  4. Bollocks .Show me proof and i'll shut up but get real FFS.
  5. Exactly what does anyone gain from being part of a group of any sort.If a landowner has problems they know who to contact or will know someone that does . The whole idea smacks of controlling those who stalk and not the deer. You lads north of the border have really made a rod for your own backs and no mistake .You talk about a non profit organisation but then write about a joining fee .The reason there are too many deer in Scotland is because your all too busy at meetings and not out in the woods where the work is .Get back to how it was FFS,no dmq's just stalking pure and simple .
  6. Just a quicky to say a very big thankyou to The Stalker for inviting me to shoot on his sindicate in deepest Somerset .The first drive was a cracker with both pheasant and duck of which i was pleased with a left and right at duck and a nice high singleton to finish .Added a few pheasants to the bag as the day went on from some decent drives and it has to be said ,i shot well .The atmosphere was great with a lot of banter and good crack ,some characters that made the day including The Stalker whos wit had me in stitches at times .Wish id took some pics but forgot the camera .Cheers again mate a
  7. Our foxes are wise mate but in that equation its me thats wiser . . Fancy putting up dead hares Matt ,in this section of all places too .Freezer now empty ready for more when you are ready .
  8. Nice set up there mate .Nice to get new permission too but dont overdo the visits .
  9. Glad to see its been resolved and hope you are in a position to take at least a small bit of retribution .Just as a added question ,was it a terriermen or just a low life fecker who steals anything for a bag of smack .Everyone i know has cctv set up mate .Not that expensive and plugs into a laptop .Records 72 hours then starts again .Frames are very good and id is easy .I would recommend this to anyone .
  10. Looks like a tight spot mate.Takes a certain type of dog for that i know .
  11. I take it thats the landowners wishes as you wouldnt go against them would you mate .
  12. In the South of England the roe are very prolific mate .Here in Wiltshire we are very much in Gods own country where roe are concerned .The land i shoot over is bordered by vast amounts of unshot areas .I have nearly 40,000 acres of small farms and estates to wander over and my policy is very clear where the roe are concerned .if its in season and a safe shot then its mine but the numbers are replaced as fast as i can grass them ,most times with more .Everybody talks about management of roe in an area but i feel these people are very deluded as to what actually happens in the roes natural li
  13. Recently been asked by a farmer to eradicate the feral menace from his farm but other things namely foxing seem to get in the way .Last night however the moon prevented much from happening so off we went to the farm with my boy and my mates nephew ,My boy has a RWS umerex which is a good bit of kit really .No need for a lamp as the area is in floodlight all night being a very intensive dairy farm ,milking 3 times a day .The lads took it in turns to shoot the vermin off the steel rafters with strict instructions not to shoot if theres a roof sheet behind .The numbers started declining with some
  14. I live in a heavily keepered area with several big estates round me ,big for the South anyway .The fox population has definately not decreased since the ban ,in fact i would say the opposite .This is however nothing to do with the ban or methods of control in general and everything to do with the fact that litters are stronger now than ever before .Why this is i dont know but all the keepers report very good cull figures and i myself shame of shames cull my fair share with a rifle .However come the end of shooting in February we will still get around 30-40 digs on the estates as per norm .Hunt
  15. The anti bark collars worked for a mate but i think the full on electric collar is a bit much for a 7 month old pup .They do one that sprays lemon in the dogs face when it barks .Water is a sure way to stop it but you have to be firm and try not to soak the bedding .
  16. Know what you mean mate ,those people are to be avoided at all costs .Once entered a dog out with a fella i dig with who had brought along an older chap who had done it all ,i mean done it all by the talk that flowed but it was soon apparent he didnt know as much as some youngsters i know .We were hoping for a bolt but that was scuppered when he leant in a hole blowing smoke and shouting back to us what he thought was happening .I was getting a bit up tight and my mate could sense that but neither of us were going to say owt because of his years and hours spent apparently on the spade .When it
  17. Beat me to it mate .Is that really necessary? .
  18. Those young lads with a bit about them have to learn from the older lads with a lot about them or else the system breaks down .I was going to add its as much fun entering a young lad as it is a young terrier but thats oh so wrong lol. The pleasure these days is in getting young starters to an exceptable level be they canine or human .You cant teach it all and lessons have to be learnt for it to sink in.
  19. Buy one of each then judge for yourself ,lol.
  20. Like its been said ,not a book you forward to finishing, great read and defo in a class of its own .
  21. Its a point i used to wonder on a bit mate but over it now .Sometimes knowing the earth your working will allow you to wait the appropriate time as some places i know have very few stop ends and if a dog is stationary mid tube then attempting a dig is a waste of time .Most of the time a hard dog is not used in a deep place ,at least a hard dog as i know it and a dig will start when the dog stops still .A steady bayer of the staying kind is a much more relaxed affair ,allowing for a bit of banter and a cup of coffee even, before the graft starts .Its all comes with getting out and doing it on
  22. Bang on Busterdog, what a bit of ratting does is sharpen the senses a bit and get that fire glowing too and gives the dog another purpose in life .I try to steer clear of a box bound terrier these days .In the box ,out the box ,down a hole ,in the box ,home .Theres more to a terriers life than being a meer tool but age has taught me that i suppose as i used to be the box man years ago .As for age then yes its important to get that right to cut down on jackers but then again those that are breeding to a high standard cannot be wrong whatever their starting methods. When a line is bred long enoug
