  1. My only advice on studying foxes would be get out and study .The only thing you will get on here is bad eyes and a headache .Take the lad out lamping ,digging and with hounds.Theres no quick fix on here that will make up for time spent mate .
  2. After digging a fox in the afternoon ,the farmer commented on how many hed been hearing shouting at night so i agreed to a lamping session with Rabbit Controller off the site .Lambing is fast approaching and the numbers need addressing .Reverse route from what id normally do because of wind direction .Got to a maize stubble field on a bank and had a call .RC was using my .243 and i had the green filter on the lightforce .A fox came running down over the next field and made for a bridge over a small stream that as in flood mode .RC got on the bipod but he was positioned in a way that charlie wo
  3. Thursday started wet for us so no work planned .The afternoon was a wash out too so i got the kit together and went down to a farm where theres a few earths untried of late .Picked up rabbit controller off the site as well as hes keen to learn .Took my young bitch Blade who hasnt seen much it has to be said through lack of time on my part to be honest .Tried an earth around a lagoon that looked very promising but she was having none of it .Up a lane theres another in a field that had cubs in last year but she said nothing at home ,well she never even looked in a hole but ran over the top witho
  4. Get a grip man ,tell her its the guns or she can walk .Seriously you are only married to her and what right does anyone have to tell you how to live your life .Man up or go without .
  5. Ive been to your house mate and you did well to pick out that individual bad odour ,lol.Christ hope you missus dosnt read that or youll be on jankers forever and banned from associating with riff raff like me for good .Well done on the shooting of late ,you seem to be on much better form after our talk a while back . See you Friday night .
  6. yes lamb rings they work i use them but only on a pup before there eyes are even open would not dream of docking anything other than a pup Anyone that cant dock a pup in the traditional manner should not be doing it .Those rings you refer to dont close enough for a very young pup .
  7. The only things artificials need ,and this includes all types, is peace and quiet ,free draining and out the wind .Bait the area if time allows .
  8. Dont know where these weights are coming from to be honest and i would say theres been a bit of long nose syndrome myself as the roe in the south are said to be the best fed yet they struggle to make the weights described above .I do my fair share and as everything goes to the dealer i see weights all the time .An average doe would be 35-40 with a few exceptions at 45 with the very odd one at around 50 but very odd that is .The bucks go in at between 38-42 with again the odd exceptions a bit higher .The biggest i ever shot was a perruke at 55 pound clean .These weights are not guessed at but o
  9. The lead up to the rut has been long this year but they are at it proper now .Do these people think some of us are easily lead or what
  10. Glaucoma can rear its ugly head at any age in a terrier ,sadly after a bitch has been bred from we have found as the man is right in saying its inherited .Its not necessarily the end for the terrier as we have two bitches with this condition. One thats 8 just gone blind in one eye and still going and a young daughter of 18 months thats just started .We know now its the bitch thats the carrier as all her last litter have it so none will be bred from again .Pity as its been a good line .What we cant trace is the introduction of this malady as like i said the old bitch was fine until the age of
  11. Bollocks .Show me proof and i'll shut up but get real FFS.
  12. Exactly what does anyone gain from being part of a group of any sort.If a landowner has problems they know who to contact or will know someone that does . The whole idea smacks of controlling those who stalk and not the deer. You lads north of the border have really made a rod for your own backs and no mistake .You talk about a non profit organisation but then write about a joining fee .The reason there are too many deer in Scotland is because your all too busy at meetings and not out in the woods where the work is .Get back to how it was FFS,no dmq's just stalking pure and simple .
  13. Just a quicky to say a very big thankyou to The Stalker for inviting me to shoot on his sindicate in deepest Somerset .The first drive was a cracker with both pheasant and duck of which i was pleased with a left and right at duck and a nice high singleton to finish .Added a few pheasants to the bag as the day went on from some decent drives and it has to be said ,i shot well .The atmosphere was great with a lot of banter and good crack ,some characters that made the day including The Stalker whos wit had me in stitches at times .Wish id took some pics but forgot the camera .Cheers again mate a
  14. Our foxes are wise mate but in that equation its me thats wiser . . Fancy putting up dead hares Matt ,in this section of all places too .Freezer now empty ready for more when you are ready .
  15. Nice set up there mate .Nice to get new permission too but dont overdo the visits .
  16. Glad to see its been resolved and hope you are in a position to take at least a small bit of retribution .Just as a added question ,was it a terriermen or just a low life fecker who steals anything for a bag of smack .Everyone i know has cctv set up mate .Not that expensive and plugs into a laptop .Records 72 hours then starts again .Frames are very good and id is easy .I would recommend this to anyone .
  17. Looks like a tight spot mate.Takes a certain type of dog for that i know .
  18. I take it thats the landowners wishes as you wouldnt go against them would you mate .
  19. In the South of England the roe are very prolific mate .Here in Wiltshire we are very much in Gods own country where roe are concerned .The land i shoot over is bordered by vast amounts of unshot areas .I have nearly 40,000 acres of small farms and estates to wander over and my policy is very clear where the roe are concerned .if its in season and a safe shot then its mine but the numbers are replaced as fast as i can grass them ,most times with more .Everybody talks about management of roe in an area but i feel these people are very deluded as to what actually happens in the roes natural li
  20. Recently been asked by a farmer to eradicate the feral menace from his farm but other things namely foxing seem to get in the way .Last night however the moon prevented much from happening so off we went to the farm with my boy and my mates nephew ,My boy has a RWS umerex which is a good bit of kit really .No need for a lamp as the area is in floodlight all night being a very intensive dairy farm ,milking 3 times a day .The lads took it in turns to shoot the vermin off the steel rafters with strict instructions not to shoot if theres a roof sheet behind .The numbers started declining with some
  21. I live in a heavily keepered area with several big estates round me ,big for the South anyway .The fox population has definately not decreased since the ban ,in fact i would say the opposite .This is however nothing to do with the ban or methods of control in general and everything to do with the fact that litters are stronger now than ever before .Why this is i dont know but all the keepers report very good cull figures and i myself shame of shames cull my fair share with a rifle .However come the end of shooting in February we will still get around 30-40 digs on the estates as per norm .Hunt
  22. The anti bark collars worked for a mate but i think the full on electric collar is a bit much for a 7 month old pup .They do one that sprays lemon in the dogs face when it barks .Water is a sure way to stop it but you have to be firm and try not to soak the bedding .
