Know what you mean mate ,those people are to be avoided at all costs .Once entered a dog out with a fella i dig with who had brought along an older chap who had done it all ,i mean done it all by the talk that flowed but it was soon apparent he didnt know as much as some youngsters i know .We were hoping for a bolt but that was scuppered when he leant in a hole blowing smoke and shouting back to us what he thought was happening .I was getting a bit up tight and my mate could sense that but neither of us were going to say owt because of his years and hours spent apparently on the spade .When it

Beat me to it mate .Is that really necessary? .

Those young lads with a bit about them have to learn from the older lads with a lot about them or else the system breaks down .I was going to add its as much fun entering a young lad as it is a young terrier but thats oh so wrong lol. The pleasure these days is in getting young starters to an exceptable level be they canine or human .You cant teach it all and lessons have to be learnt for it to sink in.

Buy one of each then judge for yourself ,lol.

how long would you leave em
Squirrel_Basher replied to slips's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Its a point i used to wonder on a bit mate but over it now .Sometimes knowing the earth your working will allow you to wait the appropriate time as some places i know have very few stop ends and if a dog is stationary mid tube then attempting a dig is a waste of time .Most of the time a hard dog is not used in a deep place ,at least a hard dog as i know it and a dig will start when the dog stops still .A steady bayer of the staying kind is a much more relaxed affair ,allowing for a bit of banter and a cup of coffee even, before the graft starts .Its all comes with getting out and doing it on -
sold out i believe

Bang on Busterdog, what a bit of ratting does is sharpen the senses a bit and get that fire glowing too and gives the dog another purpose in life .I try to steer clear of a box bound terrier these days .In the box ,out the box ,down a hole ,in the box ,home .Theres more to a terriers life than being a meer tool but age has taught me that i suppose as i used to be the box man years ago .As for age then yes its important to get that right to cut down on jackers but then again those that are breeding to a high standard cannot be wrong whatever their starting methods. When a line is bred long enoug

Apologies if its been done before but ive recently had the privilage of receiving a copy of this book from J Darcy and what a book this is,couldnt put it down .For those that were about in the halsion days of those oft quoted words 'pre ban' then you will surely relate to some of the tales and pics from this book .The author has clearly seen his fair share of deer action .Filled with full colour pics of action shots and quarry at rest its plain to see the amount of hours spent in the field to achieve them .Many dogmen talk of taking deer with ease but this book tells the truth about the big b

Replace with a fox wire with a bit of bait either side .Had this years ago and they can be the very devil to sort out . -
dog`s not bothering rabbits
Squirrel_Basher replied to happydigger's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
To my mind any decent terrier that has seen a fox will have enough about it to know the difference when required to do one or the other . When i used to keep ferrets i always had an terrier along and never ruined one in doing so .If a terrier pulls on the lead marking ,id like to think we were on a fox and never had one pull at a rabbit place .I lamp the terriers with my old lurcher more to keep them fit than anything but they will join in on a worry when the old girl catches which is not very often these days . They know the crack . The very same terriers will bush if required ,something that -

All the best for 2012 -
Hope 2012 dosnt bring any more restrictions to those of us that love our sport .Happy new year to all .

Do you ever consider this as an evil you wish you never started though mate .If we'd all refused this paperwork and told them where to stick it we'd be in a better position now thats for sure .Red tape and more red tape designed to extract the last penny from keen sportsmen just because they are just that .Ive met some real pompous blokes [that were probably the same without the dmq mind] that blurt out all the gumph but do the opposite and vice versa .A recent fallow cull said it all . Why should anyone need a piece of paper to stalk deer ,none of the other disciplines require it , if anyone

The term fading puppy syndrome is one that is overused .There is always an underlying factor in why pups arnt doing well .Some bitches just arnt good mothers ,end of, but to watch a litter fade is very hard .i would seek vet advice before doing anything drastic Some are born with genetic defects in the digestive tract whilst others have no palate to enable them to suckle .Take the whole litter to a vet with the bitch and see what they say .

Thankfully we are mainly all on the same page .Renews a bit of faith does that.

Yes,no

Please dont refrain from jabbing your terrier mate .The vaccine used these days is very safe and the consequences of not jabbing can sometimes be devastating ,trust me .I vaccinate everything and never had a problem .

Basically like its been said ,if theres strings attached then its you that has to live with that .To say that once a dog is given away ,thats the end of it isnt entirely true .If you bought the dog then its yours to do what with ,as and when BUT if the dog is gifted then certain things do apply ,unwritten but they are in place most times and should be .Mainly regarding the breeding and or passing the dog on again .These should not be viewed as restraints just safe guards to protect the breeding which takes a mans lifetime in most cases .Any man giving a pup WITHOUT these conditions is suspect

You have got t be having a giggle mate.I hate these bloody dmq's anyway but that is taking the piss big time .You can see why many have no interest in this worthless piece of paper .Bloody joke from start to finish.

Squirrel_Basher replied to vduben's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
To my way of thinking ,anyone whos prepared to walk away from this way of life dosnt deserve a second thought .Met a few and been very disappointed in the past .Someone will come along mate .They always do.
