    Which is why i stick to the under a metre spots in sand so I can dig like an idiot for 5 minutes to rescue my 6 minute wonders . Seriously though how many dogs can you work in one day without picking the spots carefully. I would rather dig one or two a day in decent spots than race around cramming in digs for the hell of it .Most digs I've ever had in a day is 4 when out hunting and that was at the South Dorset where every mark is a goer .Plenty of lads to go out with following week ,or whenever, if mine ever need R and R .It's nice to have younguns on but only ever when needed for me and

    I judged a show locally few years ago and was told later one of the ringside showmen was heard saying he knew me and he'd been digging with me week before lol.Spotless Lakeland terriers ,3 couple, never seen a days work in their lives. Bit later in the Lakie class he put 4 bitches in a class of 7 .I never put any up even though they were lookers and the cheeky c**t came to me after and asked why .I told him it wasn't ethical for me to judge terriers who's owner I apparently knew so well .His ontorage laughed proper and he stormed off lol.Was a lad from Wales if anyone remembers the incident

    The amount of terriers is strictly on a needs must basis for me .Only ever had max of 3 here myself but about 7 between me and my old digging partner .Down to 2 now that will be ,with all good intentions ,my last .Rat packs are different but you have to have serious numbers about to keep more than 3 terriers working ,that I know to be fact .

    Fed many litters of terriers on road kill deer .Wouldn't eat one myself though .Internal bleeding and ruptured stomachs are the norm both of which dont exactly inspire culinary delights .

Live hard die knowing you've done what you've wanted to not whats expected .I'm 53 and can still dig with the best of them ,out walk many a wannabe and need minimal sleep .My job is physical ,my hobby and passion are too .With this being a HUNTING site I'm surprised no one else uses hunting to keep themselves fit and active .When do some of you find the time to actually hunt ?

    Many full time hunt terriermen have dogs that only ever see work as exercise .Out the box down a hole back in the box ,home .It's called box bound and ruins a decent finding dog .

    Most not all the bitches I ever bred were mixer bayer types which suited me.Just to clarify ,the hard type terrier is not my choice of worker but to maintain a line you have to breed to this type or work drops off IMO. People's idea of a hard dog will differ but I take it to be one that will give no quarter ,would rather battle than bay and takes any amount of punishment. Bitches I've bred, as said have been mixer bayer types but capable of ramping it up if needed ,the difference between a result and a bomb site.
