  1. Rabbits can and do chew through the holding twines on snares........unusual to find two out of ten wires though. Check they haven't been cleanly cut with a knife and someone has pinched your bunnies. Rolfe.
  2. Lot of myths and legends surrounding Mr & Mrs Mole........I have heard that one before Bill but don't know if there is any truth in it. Rolfe. ;)
  3. No.......Tracey thats just one mole there.......and i will trap it as soon as the weather breaks........and yes its a wonderful place to have to go to work everyday.
  4. Went out with the intention of setting some mole traps but i fear they would freeze in the ground overnight and not function properly......so took some snaps on the golf course instead. The lake was frozen over, except for a patch where the swans were, a fox had left some nice tracks across a tee.......... I know where he was heading though. The Mole hills were abundant.......but they'll still be about when the weather breaks. Always something nice to see whatever the weather eh!
  5. Personaly i think its very much cluching at straws to quote case law from a book which is more than 15 years old which is most likely refering to an indavidual case which is even older, public opiion has changed a great deal in that space of time regarding animal welfare and rights etc so i definitely wouldnt rely on a definition from a book highlighting a specific case, i would keep myself within the exact wording of the actuall law that exists, not something someone once defined it as many years ago. You who's clutching at straws pal.......so you blindly follow the act which was made
  6. Put a collar on him mate.......that way you can get him back sooner if he lays up. You won't stop him killing thats for sure.......if the rabbits won't bolt then he will stay with them. Rolfe
  7. your right tomo, as long as its under cover, but it really doesn,t matter how much care you take there is always some prowling little bast#rd that will stick a hand in one when trying to steal them, then there will be the usual hullaballoo about nothing ,instead of common sense being used , where the little c#nt should have been given a good slap in the first place , but the trapper always gets the blame , Exactly Glenn & TOMMO........common sense at the end of the day mate........YOU CAN NEVER LEGISLATE FOR IDIOTS.

  9. I keep a few Imbra's and Juby's for use in certain situations and very effective they are too......the major drawback is the weight of the damn things if you have to transport any number off them. I personally think they are more effective than the Mk6 fenns when used for rabbit control. The rabbit Gins (4in) as OTC will tell you........were only designed to hold and not kill the animal; but remember these were used in great numbers at a time when the rabbit pelts were worth as much, if not more, than the meat itself. So if i had a choice of one RABBIT trap to use from the past or present
  10. Section 9 (Pest Act 1954) Specifies that traps set for rabbits or hares must be in rabbit holes. The courts have held that a rabbit hole is that part of a burrow which is inside the ground and covered by the roof, not the ground which is scraped away outside; the trap must be wholly within the overhang of the burrow. Source of this information: Fair Game by Charlie Parkes & John Thornley ( The law of countrysports and the protection of wildlife) I think someone is splitting hairs here.....Read what is said above about section 9 of the Pest Act 1954....! The overhang part is mer
  11. The amendment in October 2007 was only to include some recently approved traps to the list. These were: Doc 150,200,250 Kania 2500, Nooski, Solway spring trap Mk 4 & 6.
  12. Graves Well done Micky........take anything from the top shelf Yes........it was used to mark and record the location of a burial until such times as a memorial headstone could be errected. This one was found in the disused cemetery of a psychiatric hospital where i was clearing rabbits. Thanks for all the guesses. Rolfe.
  13. None of you are right so far............but keep guessing..........Give you a clue..........it is obviously a marker peg but for what?
  14. Found this on one of my contracts........just wondered if anyone else new what it is. I know what it is but do you? It is cast iron, 12 in long, and has the number 43 on it. Not hunting related.......but hey......get the grey matter working after the Christmas break. Rolfe.
  15. Yes a Tunnel does need to be used when setting the Kania 2000. They are simple to modify as in the ones i use.

  17. I think that type is still available from Killgerm............
  18. this is a picture of a purpose built "Cubby" to hold a bodygrip........they can be used open ended or as a blind tunnel depending on setting and location.........hope this helps.
  19. The trap shall be used only for the purpose of killing or taking grey squirrels, mink, rabbits, stoats, weasels, rats, mice and other small ground vermin (except for those species listed in Schedules 5 and 6 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981) and set in a natural or artificial tunnel which is, in either case, suitable for the purpose. Above is what the Spring Trap Approval 1995 states...... (116 type)...The grey area has always been down to the interpretation of what constitutes a tunnel "suitable for purpose". In my opinion a bodygrip set in a cubby, inserted under a fence woul
  20. I was always taught to use clear candle wax on my traps to keep them firing sweetly.......and still do to this day, But another useful alternative is a tiny amount of vegetable oil applied lightly with a small brush....this is good around the spring area of some traps. Rolfe

    Had to laugh

Bloody Hell Tracey..........if it wasn't for the cammo multi-shot he looks like something out of the Edwardian era That said.......it will teach him manners and respect for his shooting companions and he is showing that he is prepared to dress according to tradition and custom.....Well done to him. Not many lads his age would go that far, it is a credit to you and to him that he wants to do it. Lets hope he shoots comfortably and safely in his newly acquired outfit. Best Wishes Rolfe
  22. I have never seen any longer than 12in, (that doesn't mean there aren't any about) but they are plenty long enough at that length to hold in most suitable netting ground. Often i wish mine were that bit shorter as they take some pushing in at times, especially on hard dry ground. At 12in they will hold taut a 100yrd net easily......over that i cannot comment as have never dropped a longer one (I prefer to work with four 50yrd nets). The blokes i knew as a lad only had 12in pins also..........and they dropped hundreds of yards of netting some nights without any problems. Hope this helps a bit
  23. All my longnet anchor pins are 12 inches long from top of ring to tip of point. Just put a picture up of what i believe is a very old hand-made (victorian?) long net end-pin (12in) that I found alongside a covert side on an very long established shooting estate near me........famous for poaching exploits in years gone by........Thought OTC would like to see it as he likes old artifacts
  24. There was some discussion in chat last night about a picture and if it was a badger or fox skull.......well it was deffinately a fox skull. You can see from the picture that the badger skull (on Right) has a far more blunted appearance and also note the almost fin-like raised ridge on top of the badger skull........far less pronounced on the fox.
