Brilliant pictures and explain perfectly how it should be done..........I am impressed. Up until now I stitched any top and bottom runners that had been bitten through.......still left a neat join without a knot as well, but your method looks a lot less hassle.......thanks for sharing that. Rolfe.

Malt you will see the funny side of this story......priceless. As you well know my father was from Wales (Merthyr Tydfil) the miserable old fecker, but that's another story But i am as fiercely patriotic English as you are Welsh. Having played rugby for many years and toured Wales on numerous occasions with Northampton RFC.........One particular Easter tour stands out in my mind. Having played the then Aberavon ........We moved on to Llanelli. Having won both games ( for a change) we had the usual banter in the clubhouse afterwards........where it became a bit more heated than normal. Th

Putting this picture up on behalf of Dicktheleg on the Hunting Life. He sent me the picture for identification purposes and i told him what i thought it was from. It was in a stable and was approx 40mm long and 10mm wide and in a pool of urine as well. I would be interested in some other opinions as the dropping appeared to contain seed matter rather than insect matter. Rolfe

Just a short note to anybody who uses a Canon Powershot A75 digital camera (effects other types also so check) that has developed a LCD fault. Mine had pink/striped/watery effect to the picture display. Apparently it is a known fault to the CCD Imager due to faulty components and Canon will repair the fault free of charge regardless of warranty. See the Canon website for a list of authorised repairers in the UK. Rolfe.

My Fella working........great little working dogs.

You can have a lot of success cage trapping rabbits in adverse weather conditions....especially snow. From my past experiences i have found that rabbits make a bee-line for any exposed grassy areas...IE under sheltered trees/bushes etc. These are the best places to set the cages, as are sheltered fence lines and hedgerows. baited with carrots they will soon attract the foraging rabbits eager to obtain an additional food source. Once a cage has caught.......it increases the catch rate imensely if left in exactly the same spot as the ground beneath becomes nicely scented with rabbit droppings an

Just been out and refreshed the frozen water bottles on the ferret court........ and snapped three of my workers as they came for a drink. Stubby may recognise the silver Jill.......she's a cracker. Rolfe.

A few more pictures of the snowy conditions and the dogs having a mooch about........the Golf Course was shut naturally due to the weather so i took the chance of a slow stroll around........i noticed the moles were still working even if i wasn't. I did murmur a few choice words under my breath......and in the words of Arnie "I will be back" ;) Rolfe

Well.......what can you say. I was on my way out with the dogs and the camera to get some action shots in the snow when i came across a student type girl carving this beauty in the snow. I just had to stop and congratulate her on her efforts and to get a picture of all her hard work. She wasn't English.......so communication was somewhat difficult but i think she knew i was impressed. Anyway..........lets see some of your efforts if you have any......but i think you would go a long way to beat this one.......I particularly like the frog on the barrel as an added extra. :notworthy: Rolfe

Used to talk to a lot of travelling folk that passed through our village when i was a kid. Used to get a belt off me dad if he knew i had been talking to them.........but i used to go up the lane to where they were camped and spend hours with them. Proper bow-tops most were travelling in.........lovely childhood memories. One thing one very old man once told us..........and i have always remembered it from nights around the camp fire as a kid was the mystery of the Hare. He was convinced that they were witches that transformed themselves to lure men away to there doom. And he also pointed ou

I have just been informed that Dick Hawkins( From Buckingham) the net maker and true countryman sadly passed away on Monday. Dick was a good friend of mine..... and him and i swapped many a yarn together and i always looked forward to meeting him on his stand at the country fairs. I have (and use) some fantastic hemp nets he made and although he was a traditionalist he did move with the times and was an ardent supporter of the newer techniques. I know he is known to a lot of you on the THL so unfortunately I had to pass on this very sad news. Rest in peace Dick........and my condolences to al

Those who have read the wonderfully evocative book " I Walked By Night" by Lilias Ryder Haggard will know all about the old poacher and his exploits. His real name was Frederick Rolfe.......and i have helped a good friend of mine do a lot of research into old "Rolfes" life history and there is to ba a book published shortly that tells the TRUE story of Frederick Rolfe and his life as "The King of the Norfolk Poachers"......and hopefully a DVD. So......that is where the Rolfe name came from.....

As Woodga says..........no need to cover the cage at all as the squirrel will enter the cage quite freely especially if it can see some tempting bait inside Rolfe

Yeah i have had good success in the past using a Kania fitted to a board with a wire tunnel fitted......but i usually place mine bank side near or on a well used run and then completely cover with vegetation....virtually invisible but irresistible to the ever inquisitive Mr Mink. If water voles are present then i use cages for obvious reasons but they can mop up a lot of mink and rats in a short space of time. Rolfe.

Have a good one mate :drink:

Just come back from preparing a rabbiting day tomorrow.........and as I crossed a small dyke I spotted my first dog mink this season working along the bankside........it managed to dart under the bridge just above the pipe outlet before i could get a picture.......but it will be an easy place to set a bodygrip tomorow with a minimum of disruption.......There are still a lot of game birds about and the dyke flows into a fishery.......so he wants removing pronto. Last year I took quite a lot of mink from this little stretch of water.......rabbit buries are abundant here also so it is always a p

That is not what Will suggested though, is it? Still agree with him? oops, typng error. Didnt mean to say in the eye. Meant in the head Your belt don't go through all the loops mate........What an absolute muppet........ Engage brain cell before typing such sh*t.

I agree far too early to work.......more dogs are ruined by entering too early than by anything else in my opinion.....after all you wouldn't send a boy to do a mans work would you?......Take the dog along and let it watch the action....this can be beneficial to its development......as it will make it keen as mustard to join in. Rolfe.
