No not brave Tracey.......I hate the bloody things too........but i have had to deal with thousands over the years so you do get used to them a bit. The worst ones are when you are under a floor or something........and then the buggers run past or over you........now THAT does sh*t me up a bit. Mostly though........the most they do is make you jump if they run out from behind something you have moved. Hey..........fancy a days ratting.......we could hold hands if we were scared ;) :D :D Regards Rolfe.

Just spent some time out with the dogs till after dark.........putting the birds back over the park wall for the big shoot and generally mooching about. It was nice to sit and contemplate the coming spring and i did notice the nights were beginning to draw out a bit now.......always a good sign. It would soon be time to think about getting into the woods and await the pigeons coming to roost........not long now till the end of the game shooting season. The old cock pheasants were making their usual noisy flight up to the roosting branches and it was quite a sight to see them silhouetted agains

Figure 4 tealers can be made into any length to suit snaring conditions and will stand virtually invisible alongside the chosen setting beat especially if sprayed green........this combined with the V shaped foot end makes them simply the best and most stable rabbit tealer of all.......thats why all the top snarers choose to use them above anything else. Just come back from a client this morning saying he had found a Chamois Leather cloth chewed up in the bedroom of his chalet style wooden bungalow.......he thought maybe a squirrel had got in (Yeah Right). I smelled a rat (excuse the pun) and began an extensive search for an entry point. I searched all the obvious places and drew a blank.....until i pulled out a very heavy chest of draws from the corner of the room.......there it was. The cheeky bugger had chewed through the lower wooden paneling and skirting board to gain access into the bedroom. The gap between the back of the chest of draws

Hi Roger, The problem you have is a very common one. It is one i encounter many times during the working year......more often in the springtime when the young rabbits are about. There is no easy answer i am afraid .....because if there was i would have found it by now. The tunnel idea may work if you can find a specific access point to locate it, i am thinking here of a hole through or under a fence.......but if it were a really heavy infestation and you had a long term contract a drop box could be the answer. The trouble is with most gardens that there are so many different entry points.....

John you will be hooked for life now mate........ Just a couple of tips that might help when using the Duffus type traps, As you alluded too........bend the trigger wires outwards a little........this helps stop the mole getting caught too far back along the body.... and also.......with a pair of long-nosed pliers......straighten out the trigger release wire a bit on the top of the trap........the trap will then fire on a hairpin trigger and the mole will require very little effort to trigger it. It would help as well to get a few Talpex traps if you intend doing any amount of mole trap

Yes as said CCI CB shorts are good for short range.......I use them for dispatching Mink when cage trapped..........can you still get the CB "Sparrow Hail" cartridges does anyone know.....? Rolfe.

Thanks LG..........yeah she is a bit of a poser.........but she is a fabulous bitch to work with........her speed and jumping ability is awesome.......she can turn on a sixpence also. Her only fault is she tends to be a bit hard mouthed....but as my job is catching and removing rabbits...... that isn't really a problem Kind Regards Rolfe

Going on the picture alone.........i haven't looked at the site. ......judging by the heather and snow......could it be a grouse that has tried to walk across the pole then as the bird has become trapped it has swung the wire tunnel right round so it hangs underneath. The notch on the top side pole clearly shows where the trap was seated originally. Just a guess. Rolfe.

Well fancy not being pulled for 22 years.........didn't think you were that bad. ;) ;) At least you hadn't been drinking so nowt to worry about eh. Did you have blow hard? :icon_redface: Because if you don't you can get a false reading. Rolfe

Just put a glove on if it is biting that much and gently pick it up and handle it with care......don't grab it and flick its nose and scare it........it needs to see your hands are something pleasant.........not something it thinks is attacking it. It will soon realise that you mean it no harm and will become less agressive. You will get better results with kindness every time.

Yes.........badgers are the worst for stealing traps that have a catch in them........sometimes you can find old traps outside badger earths......where they have been thrown out when they clean the bedding out. As for old coins.........yes i once found an old Penny in a mole hill.........wouldn't mind a few gold coins though.

Well done .........we all have to start somewhere.........that takes me back to my youth when i used to bike miles and hide the bike in the hedge bottom.........then walk across a few fields and get a couple of drops on a private estate. Often i had a blank trip..........but every trip was worth it because you learned so much fieldcraft and many things i learned back then have stood me in good stead to this day. There is no short cut to experience.......so keep at it. Rolfe.

My theory is that since the demise of Strychnine as an agricultural mole treatment..........(and i used to treat vast acreages every year)...... the mole population has exploded. That combined with the milder, wetter winters that has seen the worm population increase, which has also helped the mole thrive. This current mole infestation began in my opinion, during the last foot & mouth outbreak.....when I any many other agricultural pest controllers were denied access to infested areas. Rolfe.

Cracking pictures them.......great to introduce the kids to our way of life at an early age....I used to take my daughter with me when she was about 5.........she's taking driving lessons now, but still remembers the days out with the ferrets. Rolfe.

Well i had a busy day yesterday mole trapping in gardens, paddocks, fields and on a golf course contract. Having been held back for over a week due to the hard overnight frosts it was time to start trapping again. The old time mole trappers always held the belief that moles are always more active following a period of hard frost.......and i have always found this to be the case. I just wondered what myths and stories anyone else had about this mysterious little creature. I know that in parts of East Anglia it was the custom to carry the front foot of a mole in a pocket to help ward off Rheumat
